"Hey lovely girl over there, can you tell me your name?"
"Yes, yes, it's you, the really cute one. Don't be shy, say your name."
The students started cheering wildly, and the girl over there blushed and announced her name.
“Susie, Susie Green, Professor.”
“Great, the name is as lovely as the person.” William paid no attention to the students’ jeers.
"But, girl, why are you wearing a hat in my class? You'd normally lose ten points, but I'll only deduct two because you're so adorable."
The classroom, which had been unusually lively, suddenly fell silent, and the girl named Susie was completely stunned.
It took a long time before some students realized what was happening.
"Professor! You said at the beginning that points would be deducted for not wearing a hat."
"Clap clap clap."
William clapped his hands in approval.
"That's right. It seems this student was paying attention. That's exactly what I said at the beginning, because there's no doubt that points will be deducted for not wearing a hat."
Just when most people thought he had successfully refuted the professor, William spread his hands, looking helpless:
"But she was wearing a hat when I wanted to deduct points."
This shameless remark from the professor shocked everyone present, and Susie, who was being questioned, was so shocked that her eyes almost turned into mosquito coils.
"You see, there are many similar excuses, but the essence remains the same. Hats are just excuses. Round hats, straw hats, sun hats, all kinds of hats. I can even find an excuse to deduct points from someone based on the slightly different hat they are wearing. It's that simple, isn't it?"
"It can be more than just hats, shoes, gloves, books. Even if you do everything perfectly, I can still find fault and deduct points if I want to."
"Most importantly—now you all seem to be fixated on the hats, but why should I deduct points based on the hats?"
Chapter 73 I'm the kind of person who never holds grudges
"Yes, because I am a professor."
"The reason is quite simple: because I am a professor, I can find an excuse to deduct points—but for people who don't care about grades, it doesn't seem like a big deal, so the school has a supplementary system: solitary confinement."
"Similarly, as we said at the beginning of this class, if you think I've gone too far, you can certainly tell Professor McGonagall."
“Professor McGonagall certainly wouldn’t concern herself with trivial matters, but this kind of point deduction over a hat is obviously too ridiculous. Professor McGonagall will definitely give me a hard time.”
"So, Susie earned four points for her college. Well, the hat was just a teaching prop, and what I said earlier was just a joke—of course, it wasn't cute."
The two points gained from the round trip were practically negligible.
“Well, you see, the new professor isn’t the kind of professor who gets points deducted for his hat—but not everyone jokes about hats.”
"I hope that each of you will remember one thing after you leave: humans are more dangerous than black magic."
"During internships, not everyone is lucky enough to encounter a good boss. Some bosses are harsh, some are greedy, and some, well, are lecherous."
The boys and girls chuckled at the same time.
"Well, I'm not kidding. There are plenty of lustful wizards out there. Otherwise, how do you think love potions were invented?"
"If you ask me, love potions are far more dangerous than the Imperius Curse. Does anyone here even know what the Imperius Curse is?"
"Professor, I know, it's one of the three unforgivable crimes."
The impatient student blurted it out.
"Excellent answer, as expected of a seventh grader—but since you didn't raise your hand, no extra points will be awarded. By the way, I wasn't actually planning to award extra points anyway."
The students were clearly used to William's style of interspersing sarcastic remarks; the students who answered didn't even have the desire to argue, and just listened to William continue with smiles.
"Hmm, the three unforgivable curses, just hearing the names of these things is enough to make people scared, but the love potion, on the other hand, sounds neither dangerous nor scary, like a docile sheep, and even makes people look forward to it because it is associated with love."
"But I have to tell you that every year there are wizards arrested by the Ministry of Magic for trying to drug witches."
"Boys shouldn't think they won't be affected either—there are many more cases of witches drugging men, but because it's not illegal for witches to use love potions on male witches, they will only be convicted if the man strongly resists and files a lawsuit, and even then, the charges will be for poisoning."
"Of course, focusing solely on crimes would obviously derail the topic of this lesson."
But the students clearly didn't realize this; the amorous stories about love potions were obviously more interesting to kids their age—even though these kids were about to enter the magical world to work, they were only seventeen at the moment.
At their insistence, William had to say more.
"Well, okay, I'll just say a little bit."
William cleared his throat slightly.
"Well, wizards alone are too dark. Let me tell you something a little less dark."
"Does anyone know about the magic shop?"
"It seems to be a magic school in Japan?"
The students below answered in a low, uncertain voice.
'Very good, it seems you don't know this; we can start making up stories here.'
Having no prior knowledge of aphrodisiacs, William recounted a story he'd heard in prison.
"Yes, there are unique magical creatures near the magic institute. I believe you have studied intelligent creatures such as centaurs, giants, and fish-men. Of course, this classification is not exactly accurate, but it is close enough. Anyway, there is a magical creature with fox ears and a tail near the magic institute called Tamamo-no-Mae."
"This magical creature possesses a love spell even stronger than that of a Muggle. Once she sets her sights on a man, whether he is a Muggle or a wizard, he cannot escape that love spell. He will be taken back by her, raised in her home, provided with food, entertainment, lodging, and everything a normal person needs. Then, something terrible will happen to the man."
"Kill him and rip out his heart? Or absorb his soul?"
The students began to whisper among themselves, and after a few minutes, William announced the real answer.
"Then this man will be raised to be a useless person, and he will never be able to achieve anything in his life."
Disappointment was evident on the students' faces, but a few stood out with expressions of envy.
"Alright, if you keep talking about this useless stuff, we might have to assign homework. I don't want you to go to your internships with homework on your hands."
"Getting back to the point, if you were to be under a spell, you might not encounter a magical creature like Tamamo-no-Mae, and your fate would be far worse."
"Since our course is called Wizard Self-Defense Magic Learning, it must be based on self-preservation as the primary principle."
"Protecting yourself requires more than just magic; it also requires the ability to cope with difficulties—bullying newcomers is a bad habit in some workplaces. To put it simply, it means sending you to run errands, pour tea and water, write documents, and so on. In more complex cases, there are all sorts of bizarre requests."
"Just like I did at the beginning, but they don't control your grades, they control your salary, your career prospects and even more."
"I believe you all know more or less about these things, but you probably have never seriously considered how to deal with them if you encounter them."
"It's a shame that the first lesson of the new semester will be about these less-than-pleasant things, but this is what you're about to face, and it's what the magical world is really about."
"This was supposed to be the first lesson after graduating from Hogwarts, but please forgive me for bringing it up. I think this will prepare you better to deal with those things. Alright, get out of class dismissed—I hope you will seriously consider the possibility of workplace bullying as the topic of our discussion in the next class. There is no homework for this class. See you next week."
William finished his summary before the bell rang and breathed a sigh of relief.
'I almost veered the research in a completely different direction, thankfully I managed to stop it.'
Although the other path is more important, that's not the first lesson. Solve survival first, then pursue ideals.
Goodbye, Professor!
……
A continuous stream of farewells echoed at the door, but eventually stopped.
"Professor, I have another question."
The person asking the question was a Gryffindor.
"Hmm? Is there a question?"
"Um, Professor. Why did you add Susie's points back, but not Nymph's points that were deducted?"
A few heads peeked out from the doorway—clearly, it wasn't just this Gryffindor who was dissatisfied.
“You mean this?” William said with a genuine smile.
"Because Nymph really said bad things about me."
Chapter 74 When William Gets Caught in the Crossfire
People are not worried about scarcity, but about inequality.
The meaning is simple: when the game is about to be lost, everyone has a score of 0/8, and the team atmosphere is quite harmonious. But when everyone's performance is different, arguments will naturally arise.
In the Hufflepuff common room near noon, Dennis, a fifth-year student who had just finished a busy morning of classes, saw two familiar faces from Lower Goblin.
"Dennis, wanna play a game of Gobu Stone?"
Two seventh-grade students enthusiastically sent me an invitation.
"Forget it, I'm going crazy. Where am I supposed to find the time to go down to Gaubushi? I just had my History of Magic class, and I realized I didn't understand a thing. But Professor Binns still assigned a paper!"
Professor Binns is the only ghost professor at Hogwarts who can keep up with 007. Apart from occasionally forgetting things, his classes have never received any complaints because the old professor will ignore students if they don't go too far in class. For some students, the best thing about this professor is that he forgets to assign homework.
"Fifth year, just bear with it. Not many people at Hogwarts study History of Magic, so you can give up later. Anyway, not many professions require a History of Magic certificate. But Professor Binns actually remembered to assign homework, so it seems the pass rate for History of Magic should improve this year."
"I hope so. By the way, how was the black magic class this morning—well, the wizard self-defense magic class? How many people failed?"
Dennis asked casually.
I've been tormented by the history of magic for too long this morning, and I desperately need some other people's negative emotions to make up for my unhappiness—come on, Jacob, Pete, tell us what's bothering you, and let's all have a laugh.
"How many were hung up?"
The two seventh-grade students, wearing high-quality pajamas, looked at each other and finally remembered the question the students had been discussing that morning: how many seventh-grade students would fail exams like the fifth-grade students?
Soon, smiles appeared on their faces—this was even more interesting than Gao Bushi.
"Exams? There were no exams at all. Not only were there no exams, but we also had a very engaging lesson. We didn't even open our textbooks from beginning to end. I think this was the best magical self-defense class I've ever had at Hogwarts!"
The seventh-grade student said something that made William blush without batting an eye—in fact, they didn't even take out their wands in this class, let alone talk about any advanced magic.
But compared to the first lesson for fifth graders, as long as there's no exam, everything is paradise.
Happiness is relative, especially since the fifth grader was complaining about the newly assigned paper, and another student quickly added insult to injury.
"Well, not only is the course excellent, but there are no assignments, no papers, and no magic exercises."
"Just kidding!"
"No, there's no benefit in lying to you. You can ask other people. It seems that among the three grades taught by Professor William, only you are the ones where the first lesson is an exam. The sixth-grade course is just as interesting, except they have to write a paper."
