"Ice cream?" Mebius's eyes lit up immediately.
Hope nodded. "This shop is called 'Starlight.' It's said to have been open for twenty years, and almost every merchant, mage, and sailor who travels this route knows about it."
"Then let's go." Kana stretched.
Erza didn't say anything, but the little expectation in her eyes betrayed her, since she and Mavis were both sweet lovers.
The others readily agreed; since they weren't in a hurry to continue their journey, stopping to experience the local culture and customs was a good idea.
The boat slowly approached the shore.
The dock was bustling with people, workers unloading and loading cargo, vendors soliciting business, and fishermen preparing to set sail... The noise mixed with the smell of the sea was overwhelming.
But the most eye-catching sights were the two enormous warships docked at the shore, their black hulls bearing the insignia of the Alvarez Empire, making them particularly striking.
It is clear that Galakrond Island was under the protection of the Alvarez Empire.
"Alvarez's ship?"
Natsu, with Happy on his head, stepped off the ship, full of energy. "To be able to unify a continent, the people of Alvarez must be very powerful. I wonder if I'll ever have a chance to fight their mages."
“This is someone else’s territory.” Gajeel led Levy by the hand and slowly walked down the gangway. “Don’t cause trouble, especially you, Natsu.”
"What right do you, you lump of iron, have to talk to me like that...?"
"Hmph, you've set your sights on me just because Gray's not around?"
"Huh? Come on, let's fight!"
"Fine, then! Come here!"
Natsu, who was eager to try, had barely uttered a word when Erza glared at him disapprovingly, and the two battle maniacs immediately quieted down.
Hades glared at Makarov with displeasure at the scene: "Is this the young man you brought out? He has no manners at all. Aren't you afraid of causing a big mess for the guild?"
Makarov showed no remorse whatsoever in the face of his teacher's reproachful gaze.
As the saying goes, if the upper beam is crooked, the lower beam will be crooked too. The guild that Makarov led is in this state, which is no better than what Hades, as their teacher, did when he was in charge of Fairy Tail.
In terms of causing trouble, he's at most just a case of surpassing his teacher...
Mavis pulled Wendy off the boat as well. Watching the two little girls laughing and joking, Wendy and Riley couldn't help but sigh, "It's true that only people of the same age can play together."
Hope walked at the back, her gaze lingering for a moment on the two black imperial warships before she looked away.
It doesn't matter what country the ship is from, as long as it doesn't prevent them from coming to the island to play.
The streets of Galakrond Island are more bustling than the docks.
The island is small, even tiny, but its commerce is surprisingly thriving, with shops lining the streets offering everything from weapons and armor to rare treasures.
Hope led the group through the crowd, making several turns, and finally found the legendary ice cream shop with no bad reviews on the other side of the island.
The signboard of Starry Ice Cream Shop isn't particularly eye-catching, but the long queue outside the shop says it all.
Stretching from the shop entrance to the end of the street, there were at least forty or fifty people, men, women, young and old, some even bringing small stools, clearly prepared for a long wait.
"There are so many people..." Mirajane said, somewhat surprised.
Lucy looked around and spotted a shady rest area next to the line, with a few benches that could seat everyone. She said, "Shall we wait a bit?"
“You guys go ahead and shop, I’ll stand in line,” Hope patted his chest. “I don’t have anything else to do anyway, so I might as well experience the fun of standing in line.”
"Experience the fun of queuing?" Kana gave her a look that said, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
"Go on, go on, but don't go too far. It's so hot, don't blame me if your ice cream melts." Hope waved and walked straight to the end of the line.
Without any hesitation, everyone dispersed in twos and threes to explore the unfamiliar island.
Erza, Mirajane, and Cana team up.
Natsu and Gajeel were still energized from what they had just experienced, and since Erza wasn't around, they decided to find a secluded spot to fight it out.
Lucy and Levy were speechless, so they decided to go to the small zoo on Galakrond Island with Mavis and Wendy to see the local animals.
Hades and Makarov didn't go anywhere. They found a bench in the rest area and sat down. One closed his eyes to rest, while the other took out a magazine he carried with him and read it with great interest.
Queuing is a very boring thing.
But Hope has a hundred ways to keep herself from being bored.
For example, chatting with the locals in front of you.
"Are you here to buy ice cream too?" The middle-aged man in front of him turned around and glanced at him, his gaze lingering for a moment on Hope's foreign attire.
"Yes, I've heard this shop is really famous." Hope smiled. "Are you a local, sir?"
The man nodded, then said mysteriously, "Do you know why the Alvarez Empire is protecting our island? We have neither resources nor strategic value. To put it bluntly, the empire doesn't even consider us."
"Oh? Why?" Hope asked, feigning curiosity.
“Because of Alvarez’s Grand Consul, ‘Magic King’ August,” the man lowered his voice. “It’s said that his granddaughter especially loves our ice cream, so the Magic King decided to protect Galakron Island for her sake.”
Hope raised an eyebrow. "Is that so?"
"That's right!" the uncle exclaimed. "That's why having a good background is better than anything else."
Hope smiled but didn't reply.
He had never heard this anecdote before, but he didn't pay much attention to it, treating it as just something to have fun with. What did it matter to him if others doted on their granddaughters?
Chapter 396 The Girl Who Loves Ice Cream
The line moved forward slowly.
Hope chatted casually with the man in front of him, talking about everything from the history of Galakrond Island to the flavors of ice cream, from the power of the Alvarez Empire to the chaos in the Eastern Continent.
Time slips away unnoticed.
About half an hour later, Hope finally got to stand in line at the store entrance.
"welcome!"
The shop owner was a bald, middle-aged man with a professional smile on his face. "You're the last customer today, you're very lucky."
"The last one?" Hope looked at the few ice cream ingredients left in the store, which didn't look like they were about to sell out.
The bald owner explained, "I have some things to do this afternoon, so I plan to close for half a day. If you buy several ice creams, I can give you a 50% discount."
"Then buy it all for me." Adhering to the principle of not wasting anything, Hope waved her hand and bought the bald boss's remaining goods.
The bald shop owner was stunned for a moment, then overjoyed. "Great! Please wait a moment, I'll pack it up for you right away! Don't worry, I'll give you a 50% discount."
A discount? Are you kidding me? Does he need that little bit of money?
Hope refused, then slammed a small piece of gold on the counter, a gesture so extravagant that the bald shopkeeper's eyes widened in astonishment.
Good heavens, this is the first time he's ever seen someone buy ice cream with gold.
"No need to look anymore, please hurry up."
"Okay, you've got it!"
The bald boss quickly and efficiently turned the remaining ice cream ingredients into finished products, then packed them into individual portions, eventually filling two large bags.
Hope picked up the bag and prepared to leave.
A soft footstep sound came from behind. Hope turned around and saw a green-haired girl standing at the shop entrance.
She looked about the same age as Lucy, with short green hair, but her beautiful face lacked the vitality of her age, instead displaying a cold expression.
As for her attire... the green-haired girl was quite daring.
The level of exposure is no less than that of Kana.
I really can't post full-body photos of these two...
The green-haired girl stared at the empty counter for two seconds, then turned to look at the shop owner. Her lips parted slightly, and her voice was very soft, with almost no inflection, revealing no emotion.
"Sold out?"
"I'm so sorry!" The shop owner bowed repeatedly. "The last batch was just bought by this gentleman. Why don't you come back tomorrow?"
The girl didn't answer, but pursed her lips and lowered her eyes, revealing a hint of disappointment that was hard to hide in her amber eyes.
That look was just like a child about to cry because they didn't get any candy.
Looking at the girl's expression of grievance on her blank face, Hope suddenly found it a little funny. How could someone so grown up make such an expression just because she couldn't get ice cream?
He looked at the ice cream in his hand, then at the girl.
Oh well, I've already bought a lot anyway.
"Here you go." Hope took an ice cream from the bag and handed it to the girl.
The girl looked up, her amber eyes widening slightly, her gaze shifting back and forth between the ice cream and Hope. "You... weren't you going to buy them all?"
Hope smiled and said, "I bought quite a lot, but sharing some with those who need it won't cost me anything."
"Thank you." The girl reached out and took the ice cream, eagerly scooping out a small piece with a spoon and putting it in her mouth, then a happy expression appeared on her face.
Judging from her blissful expression, if Hope hadn't been watching the bald boss make ice cream with his own eyes, he probably would have thought the boss had added something addictive to the ice cream.
"You came from the east, didn't you?"
The girl suddenly asked, "Are we going to the Western Continent?"
“Yeah, I’m going to Alvarez to see a friend and give him a surprise,” Hope replied casually.
The girl nodded and didn't ask any further questions. She simply said, "If you run into trouble in Alvarez, you can mention my name."
"Uh... what's your name?"
"Brandish".
After the girl finished speaking, she turned and left, munching on her ice cream as she walked. Her steps were light and quick, a stark contrast to her expressionless demeanor when she arrived.
Hope watched her walk toward the dock and board one of the two black Imperial warships. When the soldiers on the ship saw her, they all knelt down on one knee.
The girl ignored her and walked straight into the cabin.
It seems this girl named "Brandish" has quite an unusual background.
Hope looked away, a slight smile playing on her lips.
It's really interesting. Although she's only seventeen or eighteen years old, the magic power within Brandish has far exceeded what one would expect for someone her age.
