Deep within the Infinite Castle, in the attic where Nakime was.
Muzan's furious roars continued to echo in Nakime's mind, repeatedly berating her for her incompetence in not noticing the Demon Slayer Corps' approach sooner or for moving her to a safer place sooner.
Nakime held her biwa, letting Muzan hurl insults at her without uttering a single word in response.
Only after Muzan had finished his tirade did Nakime calmly speak: "I apologize, Lord Muzan. I was negotiating the locations of the other Pillar-level swordsmen with Lord Tamamo-no-Mae and didn't have time to move them in time."
"Tamamo-no-Mae? What is she doing now?"
Nakime looked up at Yayoi, who was sitting next to her, staring blankly at the ceiling, and lied without changing her expression: "They are working together to kill the remaining Demon Slayer Corps Pillar-level swordsmen. The battle will be over soon."
"Very good." Muzan's voice clearly became more satisfied. "Have her resolve this as soon as possible, and bring that traitor Tamayo along with her. I want her to suffer a fate worse than death."
"Yes."
Nakime released her hand from the biwa strings.
After Muzan shut up, Nakime's buzzing head quieted down again.
He picked up the two blue spider lilies placed beside him, preparing to eat them.
"Aren't you afraid I'll drug you?" Yayoi turned her head to look at Nakime, raising an eyebrow and smiling.
"Not afraid."
As Nakime spoke, she put the flower in her mouth, chewed it slowly, and swallowed it.
"The worst outcome is death anyway."
"Furthermore... I also want to live for myself, instead of being someone's tool."
Having lived for so many years, from human to ghost, I have always been controlled by others.
First her father, then her husband, and then Muzan.
She was already tired of it all.
"You're very smart." Yayoi smiled, her eyes showing a hint of appreciation.
"Master Tamamo-mae..."
Yayoi raised her hand, stopping Nakime from speaking.
"Call me Yayoi Kuwashima, or just Yayoi."
Nakime paused for a moment, looking at Yayoi with some shock.
A few seconds later, a faint smile slowly appeared on Nakime's lips.
"Understood, Yayoi."
"Yayoi can still call me Nakime, Otokawa Nakime."
Yayoi nodded, indicating that she had memorized the name.
"Shouldn't we go to Muzan's side sooner?" Nakime asked.
"Not worth it."
Yayoi leaned back and simply lay down on the floor, her hands behind her head, looking lazy. "Going there would just mean listening to him curse and repeat the same meaningless things over and over again."
"Besides, killing those Pillar-level swordsmen isn't that easy. We need to make their deaths look convincing to please that idiot, right?"
“That’s true.” Nakime wholeheartedly agreed.
The attic fell silent again.
After a while, Yayoi suddenly spoke.
"By the way, how much longer until dawn?"
Nakime closed her eyes, glanced at the sky outside through the monitors outside the Infinity Castle, and answered softly:
"About... two hours."
Chapter 224 That's right, we're both traitors!
Deep within the Infinite City, time slipped away slowly in the deathly silence.
While Muzan was doing his best to neutralize the medicine Tamayo had injected into his body, he was also enjoying Tamamo-no-Mae's "achievements" through shared vision.
In her field of vision, the girl's white hair was stained with blood, and the long sword in her hand was like a scythe that would take her life.
Nakime manipulated the building to suddenly flip, leaving the Demon Slayer Corps' Pillar-level swordsmen with no way to escape.
Some were cleaved in two by the flash of the blade, some were beheaded by the sudden appearance of the blade, some were slammed against pillars by the spatial shift, their bones broken, and some had their limbs torn off by Tamamo-no-Mae with her bare hands and left on the ground to wail in pain.
The ways they died were all different, but each one was incredibly gruesome.
"This is the strength that Upper Moon should have."
Muzan felt much better after watching this, and even the dull pain from the medicine in his body lessened a bit.
"After tonight, Tamamo-no-Mae is fully capable of succeeding Kokushibo and is worthy of the position of Upper Moon One."
The words had barely left his mouth when Mucan scoffed and immediately changed his mind.
"No, perhaps we won't need the Twelve Ghost Months anymore."
Once he finds Nezuko and eats the little devil who overcame sunlight, he can become the only ultimate being in the world.
Immortal and undying, unafraid of sunlight, the mere twelve ghost months will be nothing more than a dispensable pawn.
After an unknown amount of time, the flesh inside the cocoon suddenly contracted.
With a soft "pop," the fleshy mass enveloping Muzan completely split open.
Long white hair slid down her shoulders and cascaded down her back.
Muzan reverted to his youthful form, his arms, calves, and even his waist and abdomen now covered with countless gaping maws filled with serrated fangs.
An unprecedented hunger surged into his mind, threatening to devour his reason.
Muzan stretched his shoulders, his bones cracking. He planned to go out for a stroll, grab a few clueless swordsmen to fill his stomach, and check if Tamamo-no-Mae's side was cleaned up yet.
I walked a long way along the corridor, and all I encountered were ghosts; I didn't see a single human.
This is weird.
Weren't all the Demon Slayer Corps members taken into the Infinity Castle? How come we can't find a single one of them?
Muzan frowned and summoned his trusted secretary, Nakime, in his mind.
"Muzan has already recovered from the effects of the drug."
Nakime's voice echoed softly from the attic.
"So fast?"
Yayoi, who was dozing against the wall, suddenly sat up and rubbed her eyes.
"Then, let's go chat with Muzan for a while."
"it is good."
A single, soft pluck of the pipa string.
The next second, the two figures appeared in front of Muzan.
Muzan initially thought that Nakime had delivered prey to him, and his brows relaxed.
When he saw that the people who came were Nakime and Tamamo-no-Mae, and there wasn't even a trace of a human, his face darkened again.
"Why are there two of you? Where are the humans I asked for?"
His impatience was undisguised, a clear indication of someone who would discard someone after they've served their purpose.
In Muzan's eyes, since all the Pillar-level swordsmen had been killed, the usefulness of these two subordinates was naturally reduced.
"They're all gone. There aren't any left."
Yayoi didn't give Muzan a friendly look either, leaning against a nearby pillar in a lazy tone.
"Tamamo-no-Mae, what kind of attitude is that?!"
Muzan's face turned ashen, and the Demon King's oppressive aura swept over Yayoi.
If it were an ordinary ghost, it would have been kneeling on the ground trembling by now.
Yayoi wasn't buying it at all. She even picked at her ear and shrugged, saying, "That's the attitude I'm talking about. I'm still annoyed from the fight."
"Your boss and colleagues are all useless trash. Wouldn't you be annoyed if you were in their shoes?"
"What did you say?!"
Being called trash and pointed at to his face, Muzan trembled with rage. "Aren't you afraid I'll kill you?"
"Come on, I'd love for you to kill me already." Yayoi sneered, glancing up at Muzan. "So I don't have to work for you every day, searching for Nezuko's whereabouts."
These words actually calmed Muzan down a bit.
Muzan narrowed his eyes, suppressed his anger, and began to habitually make empty promises to his subordinates.
"After tonight, I will promote you to Upper Moon One and make you take over Kokushibo's position."
"Need not."
Yayoi refused without even thinking about it.
"why?"
“My cheap master’s body is still warm,” Yayoi said casually, her tone irritatingly sarcastic. “I’m afraid he’ll crawl out in the middle of the night to chat with me.”
Even if Muzan wasn't very smart, he could see it now—Tamamo-no-Mae was deliberately picking a fight.
"What exactly do you want to do?" Muzan's face darkened.
Yayoi stood up straight, pointed at Muzan, and smiled, her eyes crinkling:
"What for? Of course, I'm going to kill you and become the new Ghost King."
"You want to rebel?!"
Muzan's voice suddenly rose, his eyes filled with rage.
I don't want to listen to Tamamo-no-Mae's nonsense anymore. Keeping such a traitor around will only cause trouble sooner or later.
