According to the researchers' records, the sole purpose of every creature, every person, and every mechanism created by SCP-3999 was to inflict extreme pain on Taroland for millions of years, trapping him in a quagmire of agony from which he could not escape.

"Manipulating reality... such immense power, used only to torture one person?"

Scholars, warriors, and even thugs around the world frowned, feeling a sense of nausea.

The specific details of SCP-3999's torture of Taroland are scattered in the extremely chaotic files left behind by Taroland.

[But it is obvious that this entity used its ability to manipulate reality to repeatedly resurrect Taroland after cruelly killing him.]

All of this was simply to prolong his suffering.

SCP-3999 seems to be able to use its abilities at will.

But all his attention and actions were focused on inflicting pain on Taroland.

This horrifying creature simply enjoys the process of inflicting torture.

One of the many brutal atrocities James Taroland suffered at the hands of this cold-blooded, non-physical being was being forced to witness the death of others.

Although these people were theoretically created and manipulated by SCP-3999, the Taroland researcher simply couldn't suppress his surging emotions.

[Because he always saw those highly trained security personnel from the SCP Foundation coldly dragging the three people into a cell.]

And those were his poor family members.

He could do nothing but watch helplessly as his mother, father, and sister were shot in the head and executed by members of his own organization.

Security personnel with the foundation's emblem on their armbands tied up the three "relatives" who were crying and whose faces were contorted with extreme fear, and pushed them toward a standard containment room.

The viewpoint tried to shift, as if trying to look away, but was fixed in place by an invisible force.

The gun was pressed against the back of his head—Bang! Bang! Bang!

Each shot rang out, representing the loss of a life.

Then, everything resets, and the same scene repeats itself.

[Then all his colleagues at the Taroland Institute were killed in front of him, followed by everyone he had ever been in contact with, including members of the O5 Council.]

He was forced to watch these people being systematically murdered one by one, all to please the anomalous SCP-3999 project.

[During the torment of Taroland by this creature, the Foundation appears to have attempted to contain SCP-3999 inside another SCP.]

This project is SCP-2432.

The scene shows a hotel room with a slightly outdated decor, but which is clean and tidy.

A bewildered test taker sat at his desk, his hand moving rapidly across a sticky note as if from nowhere.

Is this yet another new project?

It looks quite ordinary.

That was a room located in a hotel, and it now belongs to the foundation.

He seems to be able to compel guests to write exaggeratedly positive reviews after they leave.

When SCP-3999 was brought into CP2432, his ability to manipulate reality immediately triggered dimensional anomalies within the hotel.

A special space was discovered in SCP-2432, leading to an almost identical room.

This new room has been named SCP-2432-1.

Its front door leads to a parallel dimension that resembles a hotel housing SCP-2432.

[The rooms in the SCP-2432 hotel in this new dimension appear to be in an infinite loop. The Foundation's expedition team also discovered many strange creatures in this dimension. These creatures are extremely chaotic and seem to be terrifying beings that do not exist in this universe, yet they have clear templates from reality.]

On the sky, a "creature" made of countless twisted and tangled hotel bath towels appeared, wriggling on the floor like a caterpillar.

Next up was a "waiter" hanging upside down from a ceiling vent, with a face pieced together from the faces of three different travelers.

Either one makes people feel uncomfortable.

Furthermore, beings from the original dimension will be assimilated after accidentally entering the SCP-2432-1 dimension.

[Among them, the most eye-catching was a strange creature that looked exactly like a human male and called himself a researcher named Tarolan.]

He was dressed in similar clothing to the foundation's researchers and appeared nervous and confused when approached by people.

He was immediately executed when he inquired about the location of SCP-3999.

[During the later stages of SCP-3999's 300 million-year ordeal, James Tarloan was interviewed by another Foundation doctor.]

The doctor interviewed had absolutely no recollection of Taroland ever being in charge of SCP-3999-related work.

[Furthermore, at this point, some essential information, such as James's connection to the Foundation and the existence of SCP-3999 itself, had been removed from the Foundation's database.]

"Wait, completely vanished? Nothing can be found?"

"How exactly did the Foundation manage to contain this kind of thing in the first place?"

Chapter 21 Untitled

Taroland desperately tries to understand everything that is happening to her.

He told the doctor in the interview, "I'm having a hard time concentrating right now. I feel very uneasy, as if reality isn't real anymore..."

Shortly afterward, he tried to ask the doctor for his name and the foundation's site number, but the doctor only made a strange sound, which puzzled Taloran.

Something's definitely not right.

The doctor didn't say a name; he just made a sound.

Why did I think of editing and deleting?

How could words be edited and deleted in a normal conversation like this?

"Wait, this is... a narrative layer?!"

The staff of the Archives and Records Department sat up abruptly.

They understand better than anyone what this "awareness of the narrative framework" means.

Just as he thought this, the floor beneath Taroland's feet suddenly vanished, and he was immediately swallowed by a bone-chilling darkness.

SCP-3999 continues to distort reality.

All of this was done to cause him pain.

[Afterwards, Taroland made several attempts to escape this entity or counteract its ability to manipulate reality, but all ended in failure.]

[Later, SCP-3999 trapped Taroland in a stage play-like prison scene. James frantically rushed towards a nearby door, hoping to find the real world, only to find a solid wall in front of him.]

"I'm trapped in this hellish place, stuck with this monster forever, with no more reality outside."

At this point, Taroland tried to understand the entity, but SCP-3999 was completely unable to describe it.

It's pure chaos.

In desperation, Taloran dug a small hole in the floor, and a sliver of light could be seen through the opening.

Taroland's mind is now filled with thoughts of her beloved family and the world that once existed.

This unwavering determination fueled his determination to continue digging the hole even larger.

What happened next is unknown, but it is clear that James Taroland was unable to escape SCP-3999.

However, as his circumstances became increasingly bizarre and unpredictable, Taroland gradually gained better control over his situation.

[The Foundation's documents regarding SCP-3999 confirm this.]

[Taroland researchers will not be confined by this]

The Taroland Researchers will fight back fiercely.

The Taroland researchers will definitely recontain SCP-3999.

The cruel torture had gone on for far too long, and researcher James Taroland was determined to get rid of this horrific monster that took pleasure in his pain.

[On one occasion, Taroland successfully subdued SCP-3999.]

Although initially no one knew how he did it.

The Foundation has attempted to contain this entity multiple times, likely using the project's favorite methods, including rewriting its description as a potentially unfunny cyclical joke, a melon, the grave of American crime novelist Robert Parker, an O5 member, or a cockroach hotel.

What the hell are these things?

Morty looked at these contents and temporarily emerged from the confusion of being in a different world, then looked at Rick.

"Huh? Melon? Grave? Cockroach hotel? Sounds like your style."

"Ha! They're using 'conceptual pollution' to fight 'conceptual pollution'! They're trying to package that indescribable mess into all sorts of ridiculous and harmless things, so that its 'definition of existence' will collapse on its own!"

"It sounds like something stupid I'd do when I'm drunk, but the idea is right! It's just a pity that the 'author privileges' of that piece of shit on the other side are higher!"

But all of these attempts reportedly failed.

In an attempt to use SCP-3999's reality manipulation abilities against it, Taroland tried to transform the entity into something easier to subdue, such as a few moldy blankets or a ferocious penguin. Ultimately, with the assistance of 48 well-trained containment personnel, Taroland successfully contained SCP-3999.

[And these 48 people are actually all Taroland himself.]

Taroland declared that he had finally taken control of the situation, interrogating SCP-3999 and accusing him of imprisoning him.

"You can't intimidate me anymore. During the first million years, I was tormented by the dreamlike logic of these meaningless containment procedures. I felt it was the deepest pain in the world, but I survived."

"The pointless containment measures continued to torment me during the second million years, but I survived."

[“By the third million years, I had become almost numb.”]

Researchers attempted to uncover the true nature and origin of SCP-3999, but to no avail.

He swore an oath to this entity that he would fight against it.

[After that, he was melted into a puddle of slime, which lasted for a full five years.]

It seems that shortly after this, the Taroland researchers finally figured out how to destroy SCP-3999.

Despite this entity being immortal and virtually unstoppable, he discovered its weakness: it must be bound to another life form to survive.

Upon discovering this, Taroland ended his life in every sense of the word, and everything SCP-3999 had done vanished.

After Foundation researcher James Taroland committed suicide, reality reverted to its original state before it was massively altered.

His death freed reality from the control of this evil entity once and for all.

Taroland has triumphed. He killed something that shouldn't have been killed; with unwavering willpower, he utterly crushed the despicable entity that had toyed with him.
