Mystery: The Witch and the Calamity

Chapter 44 The crime scene

In another clean and tidy four-wheeled carriage sat Joyce, Sophia and Dean.

Joyce closed his eyes and rested, Sophia was sitting in danger, and Dean kept his head down, wondering if he was thinking about the case.

If a straight line is drawn on the map between 14 Storn Street and the location of General Gordon's banquet...then Stirling Street is exactly at the third point, close to Storne Street.

It was impossible for Joyce to pick a completely unfamiliar street as the scene of the crime, because it would be too easy to make mistakes.

Soon, the carriage stopped firmly on the side of the road.

Joyce got out of the car and found that the entire street was empty, only a few shop owners were tentatively looking out. Upon closer inspection, yellow cordons had been placed on both sides of the road, and the police were driving away curious people.

He turned his gaze to Dean, who explained:

"I sent a message to the police station and asked them to seal off the scene in advance."

"You are very suitable for the career of the police." Joyce commented.

"Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Baron." Dean put his hands on his chest and said respectfully, "Please."

Joyce wandered the empty Stirling streets.

As a colony, Bayam's initial urban planning was not perfect, even a bit rough, so that there were so many turns in the whole street and alleys.

Joyce pretended to hesitate, and finally stopped at an intersection:

"It should be here, but..."

Dean followed behind him all the time. Hearing this, he looked towards the ground. There were faint ruts all over the place, and the stone slabs paving the road were a bit uneven. It didn't look like a crime scene at all. He added:

"However, the blood that should have been there has disappeared."

Joyce nodded in agreement, "That's right."

"Although the moonlight was dim last night, the assassin was stabbed by me with a sword, and Karl's serious injury cannot be faked. There must be blood dripping, why is there no?"

"unless……"

Dean rubbed his smooth chin with his hands, and pondered: "The assassin was worried about being exposed, so he returned to the scene at night to remove all traces."

"Mr. Baron, after the assassin fled, you didn't stay here much, did you?"

Joyce was stunned, and then replied: "Carl was seriously injured at the time. I was eager to save his life, so naturally I wouldn't stop."

Dean squatted down, checked carefully and put forward his own speculation:

"This assassin must be a cautious veteran. This kind of cunning suspect is very difficult to catch, but we can investigate based on his characteristics."

"Bayam said big or small, there won't be too many killers of this level... What do you think, Mr. Baron?"

Joyce did not comment too much: "You are a professional."

Dean apologized, and called the police officers who closed the road and patrolled the nearby businesses to inquire.

It's a pity that the result is not ideal. The owners of several shops have other residences, and they don't live on this street at night. There is only one watchman who is on watch, but he was drunk last night and didn't hear anything.

Dean concluded: "It seems that the assassin carefully chose this location as the assassination site."

Then, he turned to Joyce again: "Mr. Baron, do you have anything to add?"

Joyce recalled for a moment, shook his head to indicate that there was no more, and asked in a deep voice:

"Find the assassin as soon as possible, and I will make him and the people behind him pay the price he deserves."

Dean stood at attention and saluted, and solemnly assured: "The task must be completed, Mr. Baron."

Watching Joyce's carriage leave, Dean stood still for a while, and the young police officer next to him stepped forward and asked:

"Boss, how do we check?"

Dean glanced at his childhood playmate, and asked, "How to check?"

"Remove the blockade, pack up your things and return to the police station, and immediately issue a warrant."

…………

The carriage restarted, and Joyce ordered: "Don't rush home, go to Enmat Street first."

"Okay, Mr. Baron." Kumar, who never thought he would become a coachman in this way, agreed.

Sophia asked curiously, "What are you doing on Enmat Street?"

"To see a friend," said Joyce softly.

Unfortunately, this friend did not see...

On Enmat Street, opposite the Four Seasons Cafe, the small shop that should have hung the sign of "House of Divination" has changed beyond recognition. Several dark-skinned locals are dismantling the furniture and decorations in the shop.

Joyce stepped forward and asked, "What is this doing? What about the previous store?"

The middle-aged overseer is also a local. He saw Joyce's appearance and clothing, bent down to flatter him and said:

"Dear sir, this place is being renovated to open a grocery store."

"Where is the original owner?" Joyce asked.

The middle-aged supervisor did not dare to straighten his waist, and said with a smile:

"The beautiful young lady sold me the house two days ago and just left without saying where she was going."

Two days ago, wasn't that the second day after I finished the deal with her... Good guy, do you need to be so cautious, just because I knew her details and sold the house directly...

Well, it may also be that she no longer needs to play the role of "Seer" after being promoted to "Joker", so she sold the shop...

Joyce sighed silently, wondering if she would attend the party next Wednesday... There is no proven potion formula, which is always worrying, even if Emily has no reason to use this method to harm herself.

Forget it, I will collect the materials first, and verify the authenticity of the formula when I have a chance... But the extraordinary channels I have are too single, and Diago has been killed by me, it is difficult to gain anything from "Balance"... I need Join More Extraordinary Meetups…

Although I haven't received invitations from other Extraordinary people to gather, the mountain is not just me, I can be the mountain!

It was mentioned in the novel that "Swordfish Bar" and "Barrel Tree Bar" will hold Extraordinary gatherings on a regular basis, so I'll go check it out tomorrow...

Wait, isn't Ove, the boss of the Elderberry Bar, killed? But I didn't take away the Extraordinary characteristics, it's very simple to cultivate a new spokesperson... Well, to be cautious, give priority to the Swordfish Bar.

Joyce made up his mind, and the carriage returned home safely.

Sophia was obviously relieved, and Joyce smiled and said, "What are you worried about, being assassinated in broad daylight?"

"Human psychology is very strange. You can't consider the thoughts of a madman with the thinking of a normal person."

Joyston stepped down: "I didn't expect you to have such a deep thinking. This is the result of hard work."

"I've always been very deep." Sophia said with her head raised, and then realized that Mr. Baron was calling her stupid, gritted her teeth secretly, and followed up with her fists waving.

After lunch, "Provocateur" Hunter appeared at 14 Storn Street from Rose Manor.

"Master, does the assassin have any clues?" Hunt asked as soon as they met.

Joyce personally led Hunter to the living room and motioned him to sit down:

"The Bayam Police Department has sent someone to issue a warrant, and I believe there will be results soon."

"But the enemy is in the dark, I am worried that they will take risks again during this period, so I called you back."

Hunter nodded, and the hairline seemed to be more receding than it was a few days ago: "I will rearrange the security level at home to military standards."

"This is exactly what I hoped for, Mr. Hunter, are the guards trained at home trustworthy?" Joyce asked abruptly.

Hunter stood up from the sofa and said seriously: "My soldiers will fight to the last moment like Karl, even if they pay the price of their lives."

"I believe that you have worked hard during this time, Mr. Hunter." Joyce also got up and said.

"it is my responsibility."
