This jerk, is named Danny Li, he's a typical school bully, beating up on the weak kid because it makes him feel better about himself, and the two goons behind him are his lap dogs, following his every order. And their current order is to hold me up while Danny kicks the crap out of me.

I'm the one getting beat to a pulp in this back alley, by these bullies. A little under 3 years ago my parents vanished after becoming awakened and going off to use their special abilities to fight back against the interdimensional menace that has been terrorizing the earth since the first gate appeared in Manila in 2097. Since their disappearance, I've been an outcast, the orphan whose parents were sealed in a dungeon being left to be raised by the only family that would take him in. The only keepsakes I have left of my parents is a photograph of the three of us on vacation at the beach smiling and their two medals of valor for helping everyone else escape the dungeon that was collapsing with the team still inside, they were the only two to be sealed inside without being able to escape.

Like my parents, I am awakened too, but unlike my parents who had powerful abilities, I am only able to enhance my body to a small degree, so little that many unempowered people are still as strong as or stronger than me. Sure if I worked out and got stronger that may make my ability more powerful but I am a skinny, six foot three inch tall, sixteen year old, and between school and work I barely have enough time to finish my homework. I can only sit back and take the beating because if I fight back, Danny will only hit me harder. After four or five more kicks to my stomach and punches to my face they finally dropped me to the floor. Coughing and sputtering I grabbed my cracked and broken glasses and tried to put them back on my face before falling to my back and looking up at the sky feeling sorry for myself.

When looking up I couldn't help but wonder why the sky was beginning to look purple, thinking I had finally snapped and all the tortures of life had finally taken their toll. Until I heard the sirens start blaring and the screaming start. Among all the chaos I could hear the sound of snarling nearby. I sat up realizing something was going terribly wrong.

"What is with my crappy luck today," I thought.

Suddenly the sound of a loudspeaker filled the air.
