America: Starting with the Last Liberty
Chapter 64 Explosive Barrel
Dominic also hid, and on the way, Mia explained the whole story to Rosen in detail.
This is because during the underground racing competition the night before last, Dominic collided with a 100-ton truck while trying to escape.
Fortunately, the 100-ton truck only hit the side and rear of Dominic's Mazda RX-7, but those who know the quality of Japanese cars know what they're talking about.
As a result, the Mazda RX-7 malfunctioned and could no longer be driven, and Dominic himself injured his arm.
"What injury? Is it serious?"
"My brother has a broken left arm and will probably need to recover for a few months. Luckily, Letty is alright. He's recuperating at Letty's house now and he's having a very comfortable time!"
Letty is Dominic's girlfriend.
Judging from Mia's words, Dominic should be doing quite well now, but Rosen still has a question.
"Mia, Dominic was injured and his car was wrecked, so how did he escape?"
"It seems that another contestant helped him escape."
Well, we can rule out Johnny Chen first!
Johnny Chen should still be in the Los Angeles Police Department's detention room right now.
Rosen immediately thought of an undercover police officer who had disguised himself to participate in the underground racing competition at that venue.
"Is his name Brian O'Connor?"
"That sounds like the name. How did you know?"
"I guessed."
As they were talking, Mia had already stopped her car in front of an apartment building.
"Letty's live upstairs, let's go up."
Rosen carried a basket of fruit to the second floor of the apartment building, and then Mia knocked on the door of an apartment.
"Who's knocking?"
"Letty, it's me, Mia!"
The door opened quickly, and the person who opened it was the Latina woman who had been with Dominic at the underground racing competition that Rosen had seen before.
"Mia, what brings you here all of a sudden?"
Letty quickly noticed the handsome Asian young man next to Mia.
"Here's the thing, my brother's friend needed to contact him, but couldn't reach him, so he came to me."
"Oh, it's Rosen! I remember you! Come on in, don't let the neighbors notice!"
Upon entering Letty's apartment, Rosen saw Dominic lying on the sofa watching TV with his left arm in a sling, like an old man.
He certainly seemed to be enjoying himself.
"Letty, who's knocking?"
"It's your sister, and your friend Rosen."
"Rosen?"
The name made Dominic sit up instantly, and he turned his head to see a handsome Asian young man.
"Hey, Dominic! I thought you were paralyzed from the waist down just now. Turns out you can sit up!"
"Get lost! Dominic Toledo is an Ironman, how could he be paralyzed by a car race! But you, I thought you'd been arrested by the Los Angeles police!"
"Ha! With the LAPD's driving skills, they can't even get a whiff of my exhaust!"
The two exchanged a few jokes, and Rosen put down the fruit he had brought and sat down on the sofa.
Dominic could tell from Rosen's expression that he had something important to tell him, so he gave his girlfriend some instructions.
"Letty, take Mia to the bedroom. I have something important to discuss with Rosen!"
Mia was somewhat unhappy about this.
Like most girls her age, Mia felt she was mature enough to participate in some big things.
"What can't I hear?"
"Mia, you're too young to be involved in this kind of thing."
"You always say that, but I'm already 19!"
"Letty!"
Dominic gave his girlfriend a look, and the understanding Letty immediately pulled Mia into the room, no longer disturbing Rosen and Dominic's conversation.
"Rosen, you must have something important to tell me today, right?"
Rosen nodded.
"Dominic, do you know that little Martin has been murdered?"
"Of course I know. One of the main reasons I'm hiding here is to avoid getting involved in this storm. Wait, do you know any clues?"
Dominic is a seasoned veteran; he knows that the Los Angeles underworld is a powder keg, just waiting for the fuse to ignite it.
The best option is not to get involved, otherwise you might blow yourself to pieces.
Dominic values family very much, so he doesn't want to get into this kind of trouble.
"Yes, I happen to have two friends who witnessed that murder!"
"Seriously? Why don't you go find the Bonanno family? I bet they'll pay you a hefty reward!"
"The problem is, according to my investigation, the person who murdered Martin Jr. is a high-ranking member of the Bonanno family!"
Rosen's words made Dominic gasp.
"So this is an internal power struggle within the Bonanno family? That's terrifying!"
"My two friends were being hunted by the Mafia a few days ago, and I'm helping them solve this problem now."
Dominic looked at Rosen with admiration; he highly valued people who were loyal and righteous.
"Rosen, what brings you to me?"
"Dominic, you have business dealings with the Bonanno family. Could you perhaps help me get in touch with some of their higher-ups?"
Dominic understood Rosen's meaning, and he frowned slightly.
"The Bonanno family doesn't trust outsiders, so my relationship with them is rather ordinary. However, I can help you contact Mr. Luca Pastore; he's considered one of the more approachable members of the Bonanno family's upper echelons."
"That's great!"
Rosen knew Luca Pastore, who was Old Martin's most loyal second-in-command.
In order to figure out the key figures and information within the Bonanno family, Rosen had to put in a lot of effort with Sweefa.
Svefa, who was still sleeping in her apartment, suddenly started talking in her sleep.
"Rosen, stop! I can't take it anymore! Please let me go!"
Dominic took out his newly bought phone and dialed a number, only to hear a mechanical female voice.
The number you dialed is currently switched off.
"How could this happen?"
Dominic refused to believe it and tried several more times, but the same message kept coming from the receiver: "The number you dialed is currently switched off."
"Dominic, why can't I get through on the phone?"
"I don't know either! This number is usually reachable during the day!"
Rosen's expression turned grim. If he couldn't contact Luca, he would have to wait for Sofia to change her mind.
To be honest, this is far too passive a situation.
"Dominic, do you have any other ideas?"
"Hmm—let me think... I also know a mafia boss, I'll try calling him!"
Dominic dialed another number, and this time he finally got through.
"Hey, this is Alberto!"
"Alberto, this is Dominique! I'm trying to reach Mr. Pastore, but I can't get through to him!"
"Mr. Pastore? He seems to be away on business! Is there anything urgent? If it's urgent, you can tell me directly."
Dominic turned to look at Rosen, only to see the other man shaking his head.
"Well, nothing particularly urgent, just a question about one of the accounts! I'll hang up now, let's talk again later!"
