Chapter 140 Racing Against Time 4K
This answer was completely unexpected by Rosen.
"How could it be the Castro Gang? You're not lying to me again, are you?"
"I'm absolutely not lying to you! I swear to God!"
Rosen looked at the person making the oath with suspicion; he wouldn't easily believe an oath made by a gang member.
These people are doing things against God, so how credible are the oaths they make to God?
"Then tell me, who ordered you to do this?"
The man gritted his teeth and spilled everything out in one go.
"Mr. Castro sent us here to kill the driver who brought us here! We know nothing else!"
There was only one Mr. Castro in the Castro gang, so the one who gave the orders was Frank Castro.
But the second half of what this person said made Rosen very strange.
"Wait! You mean Frank Castro only ordered you to kill the driver, and not do anything else?"
The gang members looked at Rosen strangely.
"What's wrong?"
"For example, things like asking you to bring certain goods."
The gang member shook his head.
"No! Mr. Castro only ordered me to kill, and then leave immediately afterward."
That's where the problem lies!
Give me the key!
The gang member handed the keys to Rosen with trembling hands; he was already showing signs of adverse physical reactions due to excessive blood loss.
"Sir, please let us go! We promise we'll never retaliate!"
"Let me confirm one thing before I say anything!"
Rosen used the key to open the trunk of the Toyota sedan, where a plain briefcase was inside.
I tried it out with my hand, and this briefcase is quite heavy.
When Rosen opened his briefcase, he found it was full of oil paper packets of roughly the same size.
Rosen wasn't very knowledgeable about these things, so he immediately went to call Brian over to take a look.
When Brian came in, he glanced at the three gang members lying on the ground and breathed a sigh of relief when he found that nothing terrible had happened to them.
"Brian, take a look at these things."
Brian walked to the trunk of the car and glanced at the contents of his briefcase.
"Rosen, you haven't touched this, have you?"
"Of course not, I don't know much about this."
"Thank goodness you haven't touched it! Quickly put on a mask and gloves! Some high-concentration medications can be effective even just by coming into contact with the skin!"
After taking necessary precautions, Brian used Rosen's dagger to cut open the oil paper package and took a small sample to begin testing.
"Rosen, something's not right!"
"These aren't actually drugs, right?"
"How did you know? This looks like just regular protein powder!"
Brian cut open several parchment paper packages and found that they were all filled with protein powder.
It really took a lot of hardship to transport the protein powder.
"Because these three men were only ordered to kill you, not to take the goods."
If Frank's intention was simply to double-cross someone, he wouldn't have let these drugs go.
There is only one possibility: Frank Castro knew from the beginning that Brian was not transporting drugs.
Brian quickly realized what was going on.
"So, the goods I was supposed to ship were already replaced from the start?"
Rosen gestured for silence; there were things they both knew in their hearts, and there were other people present.
Just then, the cell phone rang on the gang member who had taken the key earlier.
Rosen gave Brian a look, then took the phone from the gang member and went outside the warehouse to answer it.
"Fuck! Why did it take you so long to answer the phone? Is everything done yet?"
"Mr. Castro, the matter has been taken care of, and the scene is being cleaned up."
Rosen made the exact same sound as the gangster from before.
"Why bother cleaning up the scene? Just burn the car and the body together! Get out of Las Vegas as soon as possible!"
"Yes, Mr. Castro."
After saying that, Frank hung up the phone.
Rosen put away his phone and went back into the warehouse.
"Rosen, how's it going?"
"We'll talk about that later. Let's deal with these three guys first!"
"You wouldn't want to—"
When Brian saw Rosen walk up and knock out the three gang members, he immediately realized he was overthinking things.
Well, one of them seemed to have a tough head; he took a few more punches before passing out.
"What's wrong? Is there a problem? You don't think I'm going to kill them, do you?"
"Well, your attitude just now was a bit—"
"Please! I'm an FBI agent! My attitude just now was just to break down their defenses, what did you think?"
Brian scratched his head awkwardly, facing Rosen's gaze.
"Sorry, your expression just now was too real; I took it seriously!"
Rosen rolled his eyes.
"You don't believe me? Fine! Let's stop the bleeding first, then notify the FBI to arrest them."
I didn't notify the local police because coordinating between police systems in different states is quite troublesome; it's easier to contact the FBI.
So Rosen dialed Jane Banner's number.
"Honey, are you coming home for dinner tonight?"
"I have something to do right now, so I might be back later."
"Jane, I have news on my end. We've arrested a few members of the Castro Gang!"
Rosen briefly explained what had happened, much to Jane's surprise on the other end of the phone.
It's only been a few days?
Jane was speechless at the sheer amount of progress she had made in less than two weeks.
"Rosen, where are you now?"
"Las Vegas".
Rosen gave his detailed address.
"I'll immediately inform Commander Sean Arthur: you stay in Las Vegas and don't move!"
"How can you not move? We're firing!"
It's probably because it's still dark that the Las Vegas police are reacting slowly, but they will definitely show up in a few tens of minutes.
"Then you take your people and move over first. We'll contact you again once we get to Las Vegas!"
Rosen agreed anyway.
So, Rosen and Brian each took a car and left the warehouse with the three unconscious people, heading to another location.
After parking the car, Brian suddenly suggested that he wanted to go back to Los Angeles first.
"Brian, what are you thinking?"
Rosen knew Brian was an excellent undercover agent, and he certainly didn't say that without reason.
"Rosen, I suspect Cillian Smith is in cahoots with Frank Castro, and I'm likely the only one of the four delivery drivers to survive. I need to get back to Los Angeles and expose Cillian before they realize what's happening, so I can gain Adams Byrne's trust."
Rosen really wanted to tell Brian that Frank had been fooled and that no one would find out he was still alive today.
However, Mockingbird Ace was not easy to explain, so he nodded in agreement.
Moreover, Rosen guessed that Brian also didn't want to meet with other FBI agents; it would be too awkward for him, an LAPD member.
"Sure, I happen to have an idea that you might want to try."
Brian looked delighted after hearing Rosen's idea.
"That's a great idea! Rosen, I'll be going now!"
"Keep in touch!"
"Keep in touch!"
After Brian left, Rosen waited for almost three hours.
During the incident, three gang members were awakened by the pain, and Rosen had to knock them out again.
The stubborn one took a dozen more punches, which made Rosen's hands ache.
This stubborn gang member desperately wanted Rosen to kill him; he simply couldn't bear the torture.
Unfortunately, the three men had already been tied up and gagged by Rosen, so they couldn't speak at all.
Fortunately, Sean arrived with the FBI and finally ended the three men's suffering. Instead of killing them, he took them to the nearest hospital.
However, Sean did not repeat Neil's mistake last time, bringing more agents to ensure that the three Castro gang members would not have any accidents, as they would likely be important witnesses.
Sean and Jane listened to Rosen recount the details, but things were still a bit unclear on the phone.
"Rosen, so you think there's an internal conflict going on within the Byrne Gang? And this conflict might even involve the Castro Gang?"
Rosen nodded.
"The current situation does point in that direction, but I'm not sure if other gangs are involved."
Sean clapped his hands, his expression turning excited.
"Great! As long as these Irish people aren't united, we'll find an opportunity! Maybe we can even gain something extra!"
This additional gain naturally refers to Frank Castro.
"Rosen, is there any other information?"
"My undercover work has only just begun, how could we possibly be a couple? I heard from a friend that Adams Byrne looked a bit off; is he sick?"
Rosen suddenly remembered the mission: Adams had kept the fact that he had a son very secret and it was difficult to report, but he might be able to reveal that Adams had a health problem.
"Sick? Who told you that?"
Sean looked at Rosen with a puzzled expression.
"It was that LAPD undercover friend of mine. He infiltrated the Byrne gang before me and had close contact with Adams Byrne. He was the one who described the situation to me."
Sean looked at Jane beside him.
"Jane, what do you think about this?"
Jane hesitated for a moment, seemingly not expecting Sean to suddenly ask her, then quickly glanced at Rosen before answering.
"I think this might be a direction for investigation, so it wouldn't hurt to give it a try."
(Jane Banner)
Sean nodded.
"Then we'll check Adams Byrne's medical records again, but don't get your hopes up too high. This guy has become increasingly mysterious in recent years; we can't even track him down."
"Then I'll remain undercover and wait for your news."
The intelligence exchange was almost complete, and Rosen stopped driving the Castro gang's car, fearing he would be recognized.
Instead, they got a car from the FBI and drove to Los Angeles. It was already 10 a.m.
At this point, Brian had already driven back to Los Angeles.
Because Rosen had tricked Frank with the Mockingbird Ace, and Frank had then told Killian about it, no one could have imagined that Brian had returned.
Brian immediately changed his car and then called his friends in the Byrne gang, which was very bold of him.
However, the delivery work is a highly confidential matter within the Bain Gang, and only a few high-ranking members know who the specific delivery personnel are.
Brian's friend was just a low-level member of the Byrne gang, so it was impossible for him to know that Brian had gone to deliver goods that morning.
In theory, if Brian is quick enough, he can find Adams Byrne before Killian can react.
"Hey Jimmy, I need to talk to Mr. Byrne urgently. Do you have Mr. Byrne's contact information?"
""
"Brian, are you kidding me? I'm just a nobody, how could I possibly have Mr. Byrne's contact information?"
"Do you have the contact information for Mr. Byrne's bodyguards?"
"Well—maybe I can ask for you, but I can't be sure I can find out."
"Jimmy, please! I'll treat you to a full-body spa another day, and I'll have two busty beauties do it for you!"
These words instantly boosted Jimmy's motivation on the other end of the phone.
"Really? I'll go ask right now for you!"
"Jimmy, wait a minute! Whatever you do, don't mention my name when you ask!"
Why is that?
"You shouldn't mention it! Just think about those two big-breasted beauties!"
"Phew! I got it! I definitely won't mention your name! Just wait for my news!"
After hanging up the phone, Brian began anxiously waiting for news.
About an hour later, Jimmy called back.
"Hey Jimmy, did you get it?"
"I found out!"
Jimmy quickly read out a string of numbers, and Brian hurriedly wrote them down.
"This is Kevin Orlando's phone number."
"Kevin Orlando? I remember him! Oh, right, you didn't mention my name, did you?"
"Of course not!"
"That's good."
"Brian, how about a full-body spa?"
"I don't have time these next couple of days, but I'll take you once I'm less busy!"
"Don't lie to me!"
"Don't you know me? I have something to do, I'm hanging up now!"
Brian didn't have time to continue rambling with Jimmy; he was racing against time.
I quickly dialed Kevin Orlando's number, but the call was immediately hung up.
Brian dialed again, but the call was hung up on. It wasn't until the third call that someone answered.
"Fuck you! Who the hell are you?!"
"Mr. Orlando, I am Brian O'Connor."
"Brian O'Connor? I don't know him at all!"
With that, Kevin hung up the phone.
Brian was speechless. He hadn't expected Kevin to be so irritable. He tried calling Kevin again, but there was no response. It seemed like he had been blocked.
On the other end of the phone, Kane blocked Brian's number before respectfully looking at Adams Byrne.
"Mr. Byrne, it was just a harassing call from a guy named Brian O'Connor."
"A harassing phone call? Brian O'Connor—that name sounds familiar...right, where were we?"
"Mr. Byrne, Killian has sent an updated warning: all four drivers who set off at dawn have lost contact!"
"All four have gone missing?"
Adams frowned, but then quickly sensed something was wrong.
"Wait a minute! The Brian O'Connor you just mentioned seems to be one of the drivers' names!"
