Healing Doctor

Chapter 741, Part 7 & Part 8

Chapter 741 Feeling Up and Down

Ji Xiang left the operating room and silently watched the noisy patient's family.

After experiencing empathy firsthand, the patients' families in front of Ji Xiang were no longer the disruptive force they were dealing with; their emotions were now more complex.

In just a moment, Ji Xiang matured.

Men's mindset undergoes several changes when they empathize with someone.

From the abnormal results of the Down syndrome screening to the amniocentesis and paternity test, each report had a profound and irreversible impact on him.

So it was only natural that the man later transformed into a demon to seduce his brother-in-law into committing acts that led to the destruction of his family.

Compared to the man who had transformed into a demon, the patient's family members in front of them, who only knew how to make noise, were obviously much gentler.

They were just venting their emotions to ease the pressure in their hearts. Ji Xiang understood that the man who empathized with them hadn't done anything particularly extreme.

Ji Xiang's attention shifted from the patient's family to Director Bai.

Director Bai looked somewhat disheveled, but Ji Xiang always felt that Director Bai didn't take their commotion seriously and let the patient's family vent their emotions.

From a personal perspective, Director Bai's handling of the situation was undoubtedly correct.

As a medical affairs director with a clinical background, he should understand what consecutive abnormal results from the Down syndrome screening mean.

While Director Bai's approach to handling the problem appeared somewhat passive, it actually contained wisdom.

It's better to stay still than to make a fuss. Let them make a fuss if they want to; it's better than trying to explain things clearly.

Some things are like a piece of paper; once you tear it, the magic trick stops.

What he couldn't understand before, Ji Xiang now understands perfectly.

There wasn't much to see next, just a reminder of the hard work of Director Bai. Ji Xiang turned and left.

"Dr. Ji Xiang, I've heard people say that there are some problems with the medical system in China, but I didn't expect it to be this chaotic." Lin Jiu followed behind Ji Xiang.

"Fortunately, they are all internal contradictions among the people," Ji Xiang said.

Lin Jiu looked at Ji Xiang's back and thought that this guy was too pretentious. He should keep more than a meter away from him, otherwise a thunderbolt might fall from the sky and get him involved.

Ji Xiang returned to the department and continued working. Every day, he was dealing with countless surgeries and various work documents, which Lin Jiu found very difficult to understand.

a few days later.

Director Bai had arranged in advance for Ji Xiang and Lin Jiuze to come to the Dean's office early the next morning to report on the workstation to Dean Shen in person.

It's likely that Director Bai has already reported to Dean Shen, and the two of them are just going through the motions.

Early in the morning, Ji Xiang and Lin Jiu arrived at the government building.

Ji Xiang explained to the gatekeeper that he was going to see the dean, and since he was a staff member of the hospital, he didn't need to bend over and write down his name and other information.

Therefore, he envied Lin Jiuze, who seemed to be able to become invisible.

The security personnel acted as if they hadn't seen Lin Jiuze at all, ignoring him completely.

We went upstairs and arrived at the 7th floor.

"I thought the dean's office was on the top floor," Lin Jiuze said.

"No," Ji Xiang said. "Generally speaking, it's on the 7th floor."

"Why not the 8th floor? It seems like people in China have a fondness for the number 8."

"Because it's up and down." Ji Xiang told a joke, and even he couldn't help but laugh.

The pun "七上八下" (qī shàng bā xià) is so clumsy that it leaves one speechless.

"I heard from my dad that in the past, some leaders' offices were on the 8th floor. But perhaps because of the pun, they all ended up in bad situations, so gradually, subtly, their offices were mostly on the 7th floor."

"This is too mystical. Dr. Ji Xiang, do you believe it?" Lin Jiu asked.

"Whether I believe it or not is not important; what matters most is that the dean believes it. Anyway, it doesn't matter which floor the office is on; it's all about good luck, keeping an eye on things, and finding some peace of mind."

Ji Xiang and Lin Jiu chatted casually as they got off the elevator.

Dean Shen walked towards us in a hurry.

He was dressed in civilian clothes, not even changing out of his white uniform, and his face looked as if it had been covered in soot.

"Dean Shen," Ji Xiang said respectfully, stepping to the side.

"Hmm." Dean Shen got on the elevator, seemingly to attend to something.

Ji Xiang was slightly taken aback. Wasn't he supposed to be here to report on the workstation to Dean Shen? Why did he leave instead?

The elevator doors closed, and Dean Shen's face was gloomy; he didn't say anything in the end.

"What's wrong?" Lin Jiu asked, puzzled.

Ji Xiang shook his head, took out his phone, hesitated for a moment before sending a text message instead of dialing Director Bai's number.

Soon, Director Bai replied.

The reply was simple: he didn't explain to Ji Xiang what had happened, but simply told Ji Xiang to come to the VIP ward.

Left with no other option, the two hurriedly went to the VIP ward.

There are significantly fewer people here; it's quieter and has a better environment than a regular ward.

As soon as I entered the corridor, a young doctor came to greet me.

"Dr. Xiao Ji, Director Bai asked me to show you a medical record."

"What kind of patient?" Ji Xiang asked.

The doctor in the VIP ward sighed, "A little boy, 15 years old, has been coughing for two years. There's no clear diagnosis, and we've given him some treatment, but he just isn't getting better."

"Was the CT scan normal?"

Ji Xiang suppressed his urge to ask about the little boy's background, why Dean Shen looked so grim, why Director Bai had asked him to come over, and other such gossip.

When he dismissed these gossips from his mind, some memories lingered of the days he spent working with Shen Lang.

Brother Lang is really quite the gossip. If he were here, he'd probably be asking all these kinds of questions by now.

But there still needs to be a difference between me and Brother Lang, Ji Xiang thought to himself.

They went to the doctor's office, where the doctor in the special needs ward began to give Ji Xiang and Lin Jiu a brief introduction to the patient's condition.

The patient is a 15-year-old male who came to the clinic due to a recurrent cough for more than 2 years.

During the course of the illness, there was no fever, night sweats, palpitations, or difficulty breathing. The cough was mainly dry, with occasional small amounts of white, sticky sputum, but no blood in the sputum. The cough worsened with activity and changes in body position.

The patient had been treated at other hospitals multiple times, and was suspected of having cough-variant asthma. Various treatments, including anti-inflammatory drugs, hormones, and anti-allergy medications, were administered, but the cough persisted, with symptoms fluctuating in severity.

"I went to the capital city a long time ago, visited all the top hospitals, but in the end I still couldn't get cured."

The doctor in the VIP ward finally sighed and said helplessly.

"You went to Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Peking University Health Science Center, and other top hospitals in Beijing?"

"Yes, I've been to all the hospitals. The imaging showed that my lungs were very clean, there was nothing there. At first, they said it was bronchitis caused by the dry weather in Northeast China, but after staying in Hainan for half a year, it didn't get better."

"Have you seen a doctor about rheumatology and immunology?" Lin Jiu suddenly asked.

The doctor in the VIP ward was startled by the sudden sound, and Ji Xiang even saw the muscles on his face twitch.

It's best to let Lin Jiu speak less. If he scares the old doctor so much that he has a heart attack, we'll have to rush to save him.

"I've seen it," the doctor in the VIP ward replied, forcing himself to remain calm. "There wasn't much of a diagnosis. We tried several treatment options, but none of them were effective."

Ji Xiang held the medical record and looked at it carefully.
