Healing Doctor
Chapter 562 Clinical Classification
Chapter 562 Clinical Classification
"Doctors, do you have a mission?" a family member said dismissively. "Don't embarrass your First Affiliated Hospital. People in my neighborhood can go home immediately after polyp removal at the district hospital. To say that the First Affiliated Hospital is inferior to our district hospital is a joke."
The patient's family mentioned the small hospital near his home again.
The difference is significant; at the very least, lower-level hospitals would never dare to remove a polyp of about 2cm unless they were under pressure from higher-ups.
"The situation is different." Ji Xiang continued to explain calmly with a smiling mask on his face. "First, there are more polyps, and the trauma is also different."
Secondly, the largest polyp is almost 1cm, which is considered a relatively large polyp.
Third, polyps themselves aren't the real problem. The issue is that some polyps have arteries and veins underneath them after removal. If the electrocautery scab accidentally falls off, it could cause massive bleeding, hemorrhagic shock, and other serious conditions that can be fatal.
Ji Xiang counted on his fingers, one, two, three, and the patient's family became increasingly impatient. If Ji Xiang hadn't been wearing white clothes and representing the hospital and department, they probably would have slapped him across the face long ago.
"Director, can we get a little closer?" Director Fan's assistant asked in a low voice.
"Why are you getting so close?" Director Fan muttered.
Director Fan's assistant immediately realized the problem.
After the previous episode, many things were overturned.
If the patient's family allows it, it can be interpreted through lip reading afterward; if the patient's family does not allow it afterward, going up now will most likely result in a humiliating experience.
After all, film crews carry cameras on their shoulders, and ordinary people have a very special feeling towards the camera.
"Send another group of people." Director Fan ignored the assistant's suggestion and said in a low voice, but then added, "Don't carry a camera, it's too conspicuous. Use your phone to record Dr. Ji Xiang's lip movements from a distance."
"Hey you, try to find an angle and see if you can record the patient's family member's lip movements."
Director Fan was strategizing effectively, but Ji Xiang seemed to be encountering difficulties.
Their conversation ended quickly as the patient was wheeled out of the endoscopy room.
Director Fan arranged for someone to follow the surgical trolley back to the observation room, and instructed them to stay at a distance and not to get too close to annoy anyone.
After filming several episodes of the variety show, Director Fan became increasingly clear about the bottom line.
Especially now that I've just had surgery, if I go up there with a group of people and ask them any questions, I might get punched.
But if the patient's family agrees, then the rest becomes increasingly interesting.
Gastrointestinal endoscopy is another brand new field waiting to be explored, and the animations produced from it should be of great interest to many people.
Director Fan's mind was racing.
As the post-operative patient was wheeled away, Ji Xiang seemed unaffected by the negative emotions of being rejected by the patient's family. He leisurely chatted with Director Zou as they walked back to the ward.
"Dr. Ji Xiang!" Director Fan went over and asked about the situation.
Ji Xiang answered truthfully.
"Dr. Ji Xiang, what happened next?" Director Fan asked.
"That's all." Ji Xiang shrugged. "We're doctors; we can't force a patient to stay with him. That would be illegal, a restriction of personal freedom."
"Don't meddle in other people's business. If you encounter a similar situation, just sign the papers. Dr. Ji, I'll ask you a question," Director Zou said.
"Teacher Zou, please go ahead."
"When we encounter similar patients, how do we handle them at different levels?"
Level? Director Fan was puzzled after hearing Director Zou's words; he had no idea what Director Zou meant.
"First, for routine signatures, if the situation is deemed particularly dangerous, do not put the signed form in the medical record folder; instead, keep it in your locker."
Director Zou smiled and made a habitual slurping sound.
"Why?" Director Fan asked.
"Because there have been instances where patients' family members came to the doctor's office in the middle of the night and took away the signed forms."
Ji Xiang was very polite, using the word "take away" instead of "steal," but the general meaning was the same.
"If I had assessed the situation as even more serious, I would have had all of the patient's immediate family members, including spouse, parents, and children, present to give their statements and sign and affix their fingerprints."
"At the highest level, relevant personnel from the medical affairs office need to be present and record audio and video evidence. Doing so is to shift the responsibility to the hospital."
Director Zou was quite satisfied with Ji Xiang's answer.
There are many things in clinical practice that junior interns cannot imagine. Even something as simple as locking the assigned documents in one's own locker requires years of clinical experience to fully grasp.
This is only for someone with high comprehension; someone with low comprehension might never grasp the first point in their entire life, let alone the subsequent "slick" maneuvers.
Comprehension is one aspect, but so is temperament.
If you get a stubborn doctor, their temper is so bad they could knock a dog over if you throw them. They'll never learn to be tough unless they encounter a real problem.
"Not bad." Director Zou slurped a mouthful of saliva and adjusted his mask.
Neither of them seemed to notice Director Fan's presence, and Director Fan gradually got used to the fact that he was always invisible.
Back in the ward, Ji Xiang started writing medical records and chatting and laughing with the doctors in the department, which made Director Fan, who was standing outside the door listening to what was going on inside, furious.
However, it didn't take long before Ji Xiang went to the endoscopy observation room in the gastroenterology department. Director Fan followed him, but only observed from the outside and did not go in with Ji Xiang.
"Director, the patient seems fine." Director Fan's assistant whispered as he watched Ji Xiang talking to the patient and his family through the glass wall.
"It's good that nothing's wrong," Director Fan said.
Before he could finish speaking, Director Fan paused slightly in surprise.
This is not what I want.
If the goal is simply to create a dramatic effect for the show, a patient who remains completely unaffected after surgery will inevitably fail to attract attention.
Even with the subsequent animated explanations, the program still felt rather bland.
The contradiction lies here.
Director Fan didn't know when the change in himself occurred. It was subtle and strange, but it was real.
"Just wait and see. If there's not much content... we'll just postpone it," Director Fan said helplessly.
Let's not dwell on the cliché that the show's ratings are soaring and the pressure is mounting. Director Fan's mindset has shifted somewhat—even if it's delayed, even if he keeps canceling, he can't just throw together an episode and air it.
Director Fan couldn't care less about anything else; he could only pray that he would encounter a similar situation to what he had faced before, and that it would be resolved smoothly and everyone would be happy.
But every time Director Fan thought about this, he felt very distressed. Where could he find patients who had secretly gone out to drink alcohol during their hospital stay and suffered a disulfiram reaction, resulting in respiratory arrest? Where could he find patients who were so disheartened that they wanted to jump off the hospital building?
That's all fate.
Just then, Director Fan saw through the glass wall that Ji Xiang took out a piece of paper and was explaining something to the patient and his family.
"Is the next step to sign or put your fingerprint on it?" Director Fan smiled slightly.
