Healing Doctor

Chapter 419 Soft Knife

Chapter 419 Soft Knife

"Who are you angry with?" The head of hepatobiliary surgery, who was in his fifties with gray hair and wearing gold-rimmed glasses, looked down at Zhai Yuhan as she walked in, glancing over the top of her glasses.

"Boss, that resident trainee Ji Xiang who got the top score in the country is so arrogant! He really thinks that getting a perfect score on the exam means he can handle clinical work with ease. Didn't you see? He seems to think he's been working in the clinic for over ten years, and he even said that his purpose in participating in the show was to promote a new surgical technique," Zhai Yuhan said indignantly.

"Hehe." The head of hepatobiliary surgery chuckled. "For the sake of the show, it definitely needs to showcase growth. Only growth and contrast can attract people's attention."

"Growth? Boss, didn't you see how arrogant that resident trainee named Ji Xiang was? He handed in his written exam in just twenty minutes!" Zhai Yuhan mentioned the word "arrogant" again.

Director Yang didn't understand why General Manager Zhai Yuhan had lost her composure. He looked at her quietly for a few seconds and said calmly, "The production team has decided to temporarily assign him to our department for a few days of rotation before he goes to the urology department."

"We have to rotate them?!" Zhai Yuhan exclaimed in surprise.

"The hospital that the program team contacted had a large sponsorship, and one of their requirements was that, if conditions allowed, this little guy named Ji Xiang should have two surgeries performed at our hospital."

"!!!" Zhai Yuhan was somewhat surprised.

The production team has such power, and they're spoiling that arrogant little guy like this! Zhai Yuhan expressed her incomprehension.

Remember, this is a hospital!

Perhaps it's possible that the previous season of this variety show involved interns at a law firm to some extent, but isn't it a bit hasty to suggest performing surgery at a hospital?

"Take them around to the wards and let them see the patients," the head doctor said with a smile. "I just glanced at the medical records. Bed 12-3 is a long-term patient. I've already told the patient that the situation is rather complicated. You can take them to see him."

Seeing the wicked smile on the director's face, Zhai Yuhan immediately knew that the director was deliberately making things difficult for the two young doctors.

The patient was diagnosed with acute ascending cholangitis. Two years ago, he was hospitalized to have his gallbladder removed and has been experiencing pain once or twice a year since then.

His symptoms weren't severe, but he ended up "clinging" to the hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery department.

You can't just force these long-term patients to leave, since they're experiencing post-operative pain.

The problem with patients in the department is that they don't want to undergo more tests. They only need to be hospitalized for a few days with antibiotics, and then they can be discharged once the pain subsides.

When Zhai Yuhan took Ji Xiang and Ji Xiang to see the patient, a thought immediately struck her: the patient had countless abnormal lab results. Even she found them daunting, let alone the fact that one was a resident undergraduate and the other a doctoral student conducting basic research.

Without any clinical experience, they'll definitely be at a loss when faced with difficult patients.

The director's idea was to first let them know how difficult the daily work of clinicians is, and to give them a warning first, to strike a few blows to their senses.

The patient is a long-time patient and relatively easy to talk to. However, the issue of recording a reality show is easy to talk about but difficult to understand. Many emergency room patients are simply impossible to communicate with.

Zhai Yuhan admired the boss's experienced and skillful handling of affairs.

"Boss, okay, I'll take them there."

"Xiao Zhai, watch your tone, don't speak too bluntly."

"I know." Zhai Yuhan nodded, turned around and went out, ready with a soft knife.

Back in the doctor's office, Zhai Yuhan felt a bit irritated when she saw the camera filming.

Is this still a hospital? Who had the wild idea to come up with this reality show? Even though it won't interfere with the patients' treatment, I find it incredibly annoying to watch.

Thinking this to herself, Zhai Yuhan still made a mental adjustment and showed a kind smile, "Mengmeng, where are you in the medical records?"

Zhao Mengmeng was a little confused; clinical work was completely different from the basic research she was doing.

"Teacher, I saw the second patient. The patients in our department are all very typical, with cholecystitis, pancreatitis, liver cancer and so on," Zhao Mengmeng replied with some pleasure.

Zhai Yuhan knew that this person was probably completely blank with nervousness and was trying to ease their anxiety by talking.

As for typical examples, Zhai Yuhan sneered inwardly, "I'll show you the atypical ones soon."

"Put down what you're doing," Zhai Yuhan said. "The director has contacted a patient who can be recorded on video."

Zhao Mengmeng subconsciously stood up, and Ji Xiang closed the computer screen before standing up himself.

It's so annoying. Zhai Yuhan was looking for faults and wanted to teach Ji Xiang a lesson for this one move, but Ji Xiang did it flawlessly.

According to regulations, the computer interface must be closed after a person leaves, otherwise other doctors, patients, or even patients' families may use it.

But in practice, very few people can actually turn off the lights when they leave.

Sometimes, when you're just going out to ask about someone's medical history, there's absolutely no need to close the interface, just like right now.

Zhai Yuhan had prepared several case studies to give the arrogant resident trainees a good talking-to. But Ji Xiang's actions silenced all her thoughts.

So annoying.

Did Ji Xiang know that I was going to find fault with him? Zhai Yuhan wondered to herself.

She took Ji Xiang and Zhao Mengmeng to the ward, with the camera following behind them. Zhai Yuhan did not show that she wanted to target Ji Xiang, but instead spoke gently to the two young doctors about the patient's medical history.

"The patient has been in pain for two years after the surgery." Ji Xiang frowned and pondered after hearing Zhai Yuhan's words.

"It's not always, it's occasional. The diagnosis was acute ascending cholangitis, and the symptoms were relieved after intravenous infusion of cefoperazone/tazobactam."

"Teacher, were any other tests done?"

"Hehe, this requires you to communicate with the patient." Zhai Yuhan handed over this "difficult" task to Ji Xiang.

The patient firmly refused to undergo any further examinations. In the patient's view, infections frequently occurred after gallbladder removal, and there were treatment options available, so why conduct so many tests?

Both the director and Zhai Yuhan had communicated with the patient, but the patient remained as stubborn as a stone.

Ji Xiang is reckless and will likely end up with a bloody face.

Upon entering the ward, Zhai Yuhan began to chat warmly with the patient. Her smile was much more genuine this time, unlike the perfunctory one she had shown when facing Ji Xiang.

When taking the medical history, Zhai Yuhan deliberately left a few loopholes. Seeing Ji Xiang and Zhao Mengmeng taking notes diligently, she found it amusing and really wanted to see how bewildered these two newbies would be when faced with her questions.

After talking with the patient, Zhai Yuhan felt a little tired, since there was a camera behind her and she had to appear extremely professional.

After asking Ji Xiang and Zhao Mengmeng a few more questions, Zhai Yuhan led the two away.

Back in the office, Zhai Yuhan asked, "Take a look at the medical records and tell me what you think."

Seeing that Ji Xiang was about to speak, she paused and asked, "Mengmeng, tell me your thoughts."
