Chapter 122 Mother-in-law Brings Her to See a Doctor (Part 1)
Ji Xiang, who was powerless to even kill a chicken, had no idea what was happening. He was learning surgery from a system NPC in the system space.
Hybrid surgery involves multiple disciplines and is far more difficult than single-discipline surgery. But Ji Xiang is tenacious and continues performing surgery after surgery without finding it tedious or boring.
Silent all night.
The next morning, Ji Xiang returned home after running a half marathon and saw the old man cleaning his yard.
The old man was rather reclusive and preferred to do things himself rather than ask someone else to help.
Ji Xiang was used to it and didn't help. From a young age, Ji Xiang believed that his grandfather enjoyed it.
"Father, I'm back."
"Hmm." Ji Xiang's father was mowing the lawn, the smell of withered grass filling the air. "Are there any surgeries today?"
"I'll be performing surgery first today, then I'll accompany Director Liu on his outpatient rounds," Ji Xiang replied.
"Let's eat." Ji Xiang's father put down the work he was halfway through, turned around to wash his hands, changed his clothes, and ate with Ji Xiang.
After eating, Ji Xiang went straight to the hospital.
Recently, Mr. Wu has been having laser lithotripsy surgery every day, and Ji Xiang has been gaining experience points. This kind of help in his jungle makes Ji Xiang feel very happy.
"It's really human nature to want something for nothing," Ji Xiang thought, his thoughts drifting to Director Liu and Director Zhao.
The experience gained from such major surgeries is certainly greater than that from laser lithotripsy.
However, this matter cannot be accomplished overnight. Director Liu said that he and Director Zhao discussed it and prepared to apply for a project fund. Although it was not a lot of money, they were used to reporting such matters to the institute.
Ji Xiang was anxious but helpless.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Ji Xiang first checked on the patients, then copied and pasted the medical records before the morning shift handover. He made some minor modifications and waited for the professor leading the group to make rounds before continuing.
This is the kind of work that resident trainees should be doing.
Rounds, surgeries, writing medical records—Ji Xiang finished all the trivial tasks in a flurry of activity, having only a quick bite to eat at noon.
At 1:20 PM, Director Liu took a nap and then went to see Ji Xiang.
"Dr. Ji, come with me on my outpatient visit."
"Okay," Ji Xiang replied.
Outpatient clinics are also part of clinical practice. As the system NPC said, high surgical skills don't mean you can do everything.
These are all clinical experience, or part of clinical experience.
Therefore, Ji Xiang did not resist.
"I'm getting old, I type slowly," Director Liu chatted with Ji Xiang as they walked towards the outpatient clinic. "And then there's the hospital's system... damn it!"
"What's wrong, Director?"
"We just got used to an operating system, and they insist on making it intelligent. They even hired some comprador company to build it," Director Liu complained. "What kind of garbage is this? The systems they make get worse and worse. Crashes and lags are minor issues; they're constantly making mistakes. And they have the nerve to call themselves a high-tech company."
Ji Xiang chuckled. "I already said it's a comprador company, so this is all normal."
"They're already using elementary school textbooks," Ji Xiang said.
"Go ahead and try, do you really think you can become a saint by making pronouncements? The more outrageous you are, the more miserable your death will be," Director Liu said. "I'm putting this out there, Dr. Ji, you'll see."
"Director, what kind of patients do we have the most in our outpatient clinic?" Ji Xiang didn't want to talk about this anymore; he figured it was fine for Director Liu to grumble.
"At most, it's benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)," Director Liu said with a smile. "You're still young, you can't understand the pain of BPH. You know, the prostate is the only organ in the human body that keeps growing."
This description...
An organ that is constantly growing.
If Ji Xiang hadn't known what Director Liu meant, he would have thought he was being suggestive.
However, once you get used to the speed of the urology department, everything becomes still. Ji Xiang learns things quickly, and everything happens in a flash.
"You can follow along; it might be boring, but it's still clinical practice. Oh, and there are also some functional patients..."
As he spoke, Director Liu's expression became quite amusing.
"Director, what are you thinking about?" Ji Xiang asked.
"I estimate you'll see it today."
"What do you see?"
"Patient's family members."
Director Liu's seemingly random remark left Ji Xiang completely bewildered.
What's there for the patient's family to see?
Upon arriving at the outpatient clinic, Director Liu asked Ji Xiang to sit in front of the computer, and then moved a chair to sit next to Ji Xiang.
Ji Xiang knew that he was a typist.
"Knock knock knock~"
After Director Liu called out the number, there was a knock on the door.
It was a middle-aged woman standing at the door, knocking cautiously, looking somewhat reserved.
"Please come in," Director Liu said gently, then lowered his voice, "Dr. Xiao Ji, this is the patient's family member I told you about."
Ji Xiang was greatly encouraged.
He stared intently at the computer screen, glancing at the patient's family members out of the corner of his eye.
It's strange, since urology is generally a male-dominated field. Otherwise, why would it have the nickname "hanging urologist"?
"Director Liu, right?" The woman walked up to Director Liu, but instead of sitting down, she asked in a low voice.
She was elegant and dignified, which seemed completely out of place in the context of the field of urology.
"Yes, what's wrong?"
"I am a patient..."
Ji Xiang pricked up his ears.
"Mother-in-law".
"!!!"
"Oh, where is the patient?" Director Liu asked casually, as he was already used to it.
"Let me explain the situation while we're outside."
Director Liu made a gesture, indicating that the patient's family should speak first.
"My son-in-law... well... well..."
"Is it no longer working?" Director Liu asked directly.
"Um."
"Oh, that's common, it's nothing." Director Liu smiled. "I understand, please let the patient in."
The woman was taken aback; she was somewhat incredulous and looked Director Liu up and down.
"Similar situations are very common, and you did the right thing," Director Liu said calmly. "Between husband and wife, if the wife brings the husband along, the husband will feel that his dignity has been challenged, and the relationship will be impossible to maintain in the future."
"But it's perfectly normal for the mother-in-law to bring her along, and the patient is more accepting of it. Don't worry, I've seen plenty of cases like this. It's not a serious problem, just a minor ailment that can be treated with some medication."
Countless thoughts raced through Ji Xiang's mind.
The patient's family breathed a sigh of relief; they were relieved to not have to explain the awkward situation.
"Let the patient in. It's not good for us to talk too much," Director Liu said.
"Okay, okay, thank you for your hard work, Director Liu."
The patient's family members bowed politely and then left.
Ji Xiang didn't speak, but just observed quietly.
A dozen seconds later, a man who looked to be under thirty walked in with an embarrassed, troubled, and conflicted expression.
"Close the door," Director Liu said gently, his tone as warm as a spring breeze.
The man turned around and closed the door.
"Sit down," Director Liu said. "Tell me what happened."
The man was embarrassed and didn't know where to begin. He lowered his head, his face was red, but his expression was extremely complex and hard to describe.
"That's normal, I'm the same way," Director Liu said with a smile.
"Huh?!" The patient was taken aback; he hadn't expected to hear such an opening remark from Director Liu.
