Killing Monks
Chapter 9 The Strange Detective
What kind of judgment is this?
Release people upon hearing a single word of "wrongful conviction," but kill them upon hearing a single word of "not wrongful conviction"?
This is too childish!
Lu Fei was filled with doubt.
Guangyuan didn't care what he thought, and simply nodded: "The green hills remain unchanged, we'll meet again."
After saying that, the two parted ways.
Now that he had gold and silver, Guangyuan no longer needed to beg for food.
They have hands and feet, yet instead of working to earn food, they beg.
He's not that thick-skinned.
Gold and silver are truly wonderful things. But the world is ultimately material; people still need to eat.
If a person doesn't eat, problems will arise.
People will have problems if they don't have food to eat.
This is his recent realization.
The truth is often something you only truly understand after experiencing the harsh realities of life.
Two days had passed since his prison break, and he was walking alone in the bamboo forest.
The bamboo leaves are lush and green, and the bamboo stalks stand tall and straight. They should be rustling in the wind, but at this moment there is only deathly silence.
It's too quiet.
It was so quiet that even the chirping of insects had disappeared.
"Come out," Guangyuan said to the empty bamboo forest.
No one answered.
"I don't know who you are," he continued, "but you're blocking my way."
"Thump!"
Something fell from the bamboo tip to the ground.
Looking over, Guangyuan saw Lu Fei, who was bound tightly.
He smiled: "The green hills remain unchanged, and the clear waters flow on. Sure enough, we meet again here in these green hills."
"Monk, how dare you!" A voice descended from the top of the bamboo.
Next to fall was a figure dressed in a tight-fitting outfit.
The newcomer had a constable's token hanging from his waist and carried two knives.
The blade was slender and slightly curved, with a unique shape. The fact that someone could possess two such knives in this area speaks volumes about their identity.
Tanhua County, Qi Butou (a legendary constable).
"I'm not very brave, on the contrary, I'm quite timid." Guangyuan looked Qi Butou up and down. He looked to be about 30 years old, with a sharp and capable appearance.
The constable's surname was Qi, and he was also a strange person; he was very famous in this area.
Without him, no one can be caught; without him, no case can be solved.
Even though Guangyuan had heard of his reputation, that's why he went to break him out of prison while he was out handling a case.
Apart from him, everyone else in the entire Tanhua County government office was quite ordinary.
The more capable a person is, the more ordinary others will appear.
"Murder, prison break, and sweet talk! Do you think there's no one in Tanhua County?!"
Before the constable could finish speaking, his twin blades had already arrived!
The blade flashed as cold as a frozen river in the twelfth lunar month, and as fast as lightning.
The head constable had no intention of testing them; he immediately launched a deadly attack!
This is his experience over the years: even a lion goes all out to hunt a rabbit, let alone in the martial arts world.
He does not avoid those with wide connections.
He even took a step forward.
His body was filled with pitch-black true energy that exploded outwards. His meridians groaned in agony, but his cultivation level soared wildly amidst the pain!
The aura of the Sravaka realm soared to the sky, actually rivaling that of the head constable!
Just as the blade was about to strike, Guangyuan struck out with his palm.
Not one move, but three moves!
"Paying homage to the Three Jewels" has long ceased to be a solemn act of respect in his hands; instead, it has become a deadly move that takes lives from three directions!
Three jet-black palm prints tore through the air, targeting the throat, heart, and dantian, moving so fast that only afterimages remained!
Attack against attack, life against life!
The head constable was startled. He had seen brave and fierce people, but he had never seen anyone so crazy!
The swordsmanship shifted abruptly, the twin blades dancing into a curtain of light, three loud clangs rang out, forcefully intercepting the palm print.
But just as his old strength was exhausted and his new strength had not yet been generated, Guangyuan's fourth palm strike arrived!
This palm strike was completely unpretentious, just a flat push.
But the palm strike was as black as ink, and wherever it passed, the bamboo leaves withered and fell!
The constable retreated swiftly, using bamboo branches as leverage to somersault and narrowly avoid the attack.
But as soon as he landed, everything went black before his eyes, and Guangyuan followed him like a shadow, right up close!
He brought his right fist to his waist, and the black energy around him frantically gathered towards the fist, faintly accompanied by a deep lion's roar.
"roar--!"
A punch was thrown! Not a technique, but willpower!
The constable crossed his twin swords to parry, channeling his inner energy into the blades, which condensed into a shield of light like moonlight.
Fist and shield collide!
"boom--!!!"
The shockwave exploded, snapping the surrounding bamboo, which was as thick as a bowl, in half!
Qi Butou felt a sinister and vicious force penetrate his twin blades, like a venomous snake burrowing into his meridians. Wherever it passed, his true energy dissipated and his blood and qi surged backward!
"Pfft!" He spat out a mouthful of blood, staggered back seven steps, and the blade hummed incessantly.
Looking up, the monk stood amidst the swirling bamboo leaves, his black robes billowing, his eyes bloodshot. A dark aura swirled around him, making him appear like a demon crawling out of hell.
This doesn't look like a monk at all.
He's clearly a demonic monk!
He doesn't value his own life, so naturally he won't value his life either.
Lu Fei, who was standing to the side, was dumbfounded.
Holy crap, he knew something was off about Guangyuan the monk, but he never expected it to be this strange.
Fortunately, I didn't fight with him.
He was in a dilemma, unsure whether he hoped the monk could defeat Chief Qi or not.
"Monk...which temple is he from?!" Chief Constable Qi suppressed the surging alien energy within his body and slowly sheathed his twin swords.
It's not about giving up, but about no longer needing to use a knife.
People only know that his swordsmanship is unpredictable and as unpredictable as the moon, but they don't know that his real killing move is in his palm.
"Qi Jia Mian Zhang" (a traditional Chinese folk song).
Mian is not soft. It is dense, long-lasting, endless, lasting until death!
He moved.
A palm strike pierced through the air without a sound, yet it was blindingly fast!
Wherever the edge of his palm passed, the air emitted a shrill, tearing sound.
Guangyuan still doesn't flash.
The swirling black energy around him suddenly collapsed in that instant, like a hundred rivers flowing into the sea, all pouring into his right palm.
That hand turned as black as ink, and it seemed as if countless tiny snakes were wriggling beneath its skin.
He thrust out with a single palm strike.
Two palms meet in mid-air.
There was no loud noise, only a dull "bang" that made one's heart stop.
Time seemed to stand still for a moment.
The next second, a violent burst of energy exploded from where their palms collided!
The soil beneath their feet suddenly sank, and the green bamboo within a radius of three zhang snapped at the roots, with broken leaves shooting into the sky like a torrential rain!
"Thump, thump, thump—"
Guangyuan retreated five steps, while Qi Butou retreated four steps.
Almost simultaneously, both of them swayed, and blood trickled from the corners of their mouths.
A head-on clash, a clash of true energy.
Nobody benefited.
"I am from Xinsi Temple," Guangyuan finally answered Qi Butou's question.
"What kind of temple is Xinsi?" During a break in conversation, Chief Constable Qi began to adjust his internal energy.
"The temple in my heart is the temple of my heart," Guangyuan said, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth. "My heart defines what a temple is, what a Buddha is, and... what Buddhism is!"
"..." Only then did the head constable realize that the monk in front of him was a boastful madman.
In the Buddhist kingdom of Southern Tang, there were discussions of precepts, mind and nature, sudden enlightenment, and merit, but no one tried to define what a Buddha is.
"I never imagined that you, monk, would be so insane!" Only then did Chief Constable Qi understand why the monk before him would recklessly attempt to break him out of prison.
"No... I'm not insane," Guangyuan shook his head and said, "It's that the current temples and Buddhist teachings are wrong!"
