Monsters: Evolving from Titans to Ancient Gods
Chapter 37 Humanity's Nightmare
The landing craft spun as it plummeted, scattering many people and equipment along its path, landing abruptly on the edge of the deserted island, flattening large swathes of forest and leaving a long, trailing mark.
It glided for several kilometers before finally coming to a stop at the edge of the island. Most of the massive hull was submerged in the sea, the raging flames were extinguished, and it did not explode.
Nevertheless, the damage it suffered was still very severe. The massive hull, capable of carrying a company of personnel and armored equipment, disintegrated, with most of the steel twisted and twisted.
In the very center of the deserted island, Longbo glanced at the cloak on his shoulder, torn from the impact, and remained silent.
"The piloting skills of the Hagis in this universe are so terrible that it's unbelievable. It's bizarre that such a large target as myself could crash into them."
but…
Longbo sniffed the smell of radioactive elements scattered in the air, a hint of comfort in his eyes.
Humans are still the same; as long as the technology is up to par, regardless of the size of the vehicle, they will always think about putting a reactor in it.
He accepted the apology.
A rainbow of colors appeared before his eyes, the air rippled, the wind and rain blurred under a mysterious force, and a black shadow, indistinguishable from a monster to humans, appeared.
The giant beasts with ossified heads poked their heads out, curiously surveying the unfamiliar surroundings. Upon seeing Longbo's figure, they all sat down, awaiting his instructions.
They had long been accustomed to being around Longbo, and he usually ignored them.
In recent years, this situation has changed again, as he has often settling his clan in another mysterious world.
Every time they are released, there is something they are required to do. In most cases, they are sent to search for something or to clear the way for other animals when they encounter them.
And this time should be no exception.
Under the watchful eyes of several wartdogs, their familiar voices emanated from the shadows beneath the cloak.
"Go and bring that thing to me."
"..."
Longbo's command arrived, along with information beyond sound, instantly making the wart dogs understand what they needed to do.
Without any hesitation, it sniffed the air and strode off into the distance with its powerful hooves.
These colossal beasts, some tens of meters tall, unleash their full power at speeds comparable to high-speed trains. During their collective rampage, they create an earth-shaking spectacle, crushing trees as they surge forward, closing in step by step.
The earthquake-like roar reached the seashore, and the wreckage of the damaged landing craft resonated under the vibration, causing the already precarious metal parts to fall one after another, smashing onto the surviving mercenaries.
The colonel was awakened by the intermittent calls in his ears. He struggled to his feet, picked up the communicator, and sent a message back to the colony ship.
"This is Quarch. We have been struck by lightning, our engines have been destroyed, and we crashed. During the hard landing, we collided with an unidentified giant unit. We need rescue."
"Roger that, Colonel Quaritch," the communications channel replied. "Please confirm the survivors and launch flares in an open area as a guide."
As soon as he finished speaking, another voice took over the communication channel, delivering an inhumane order.
"Quarchi, what special discovery have you made?"
"A deadly behemoth!" Colonel Quach carefully tore off a piece of his sleeve to stop the bleeding, panting heavily. "You should know how heavy a landing craft is, right? It didn't even make a sound when it hit that behemoth!"
"We need orbital weapon support!"
The person in charge reviewed the landing craft surveillance footage, which ordinary employees did not have access to, and coldly refused: "Rejected. Living beings are more valuable to the company."
"You'd have to be alive to catch it!!"
The colonel was furious. These guys had no idea what it meant to have a creature that could withstand the impact of such a large landing craft falling from the sky.
Although the landing craft had slowed down, it was still an event that would terrify any knowledgeable scientist.
Upon hearing this, the person in charge glanced at the system's real-time analysis data and remained silent for nearly half a minute.
He eventually relented: "I will charge the orbital weapon and consider whether to deploy it."
The colonel's tense emotions eased, and he breathed a sigh of relief. He turned around, picked up a signal flare, and prepared to search for the mercenaries, but was startled by a loud bang.
He could clearly see the stagnant water trembling before him, the steel plate above his head swaying precariously, and then a series of roars mixed with rapid panting approached.
A massive shadow approached, enveloping the enormous landing craft and opening its gaping maw.
The wrecked landing craft was ripped open with a piercing metallic clang as wind and rain poured in, tearing apart piece by piece of wreckage and hurling it in all directions by the raging behemoth.
The colonel fell to the ground and, guided by the light, saw several enormous silhouettes violently dismantling the landing craft. Their size was several times larger than the aircraft, and their overall form was barely visible in the dim light.
Claws tear and fangs bite.
These colossal beasts, far exceeding the colonel's imagination, were now using their most primitive claws and fangs to efficiently dismantle the fruits of human industry.
The colonel's pupils dilated violently; the scene before him was like a tsunami relentlessly assaulting his worldview.
But he quickly came to his senses, picked up the weapon on the ground, and pulled the trigger at the giant beast. The nearby mercenaries, as if waking from a dream, all followed suit.
Large-caliber bullets and portable rockets struck the massive barrage of projectiles, the resulting flashes of light revealing the true forms of these behemoths and amplifying their awe.
The sudden attack made the wartdogs sneeze. They glanced at the humans casually, then stretched out their claws and crushed them.
The gunshots faded away one after another; humanity's prized kinetic weapons seemed utterly useless against these behemoths.
After cursing under his breath, the colonel stopped firing and turned to hide in a corner. Clearly, individual weapons were of no use to these guys.
The landing craft gradually disintegrated under the tearing of claws and fangs, eventually revealing its most valuable core: a small nuclear reactor.
The colonel hid in a corner, letting the wind and rain lash him, his eyes fixed on everything.
Until the thickest armor was torn apart, the small reactor was ripped off by the canine behemoth, which turned and rushed into the depths of the island, gradually disappearing into the wind and rain.
After the noise stopped, the nightmare-like experience was too much for the battle-hardened colonel to bear, and he collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
"..."
"Colonel..."
"Colonel!!"
The shouts gradually became clearer, causing the colonel to slowly open his eyes, and the world went from blurry to clear.
The dozen or so surviving mercenaries were scattered around, almost all of them wounded. Two of them stood in front of him, looking at him helplessly.
"Colonel, what should we do next?"
This nightmare has left the mercenary bewildered, with no idea what he should do next.
The colonel looked down at himself and found that his wounds had been re-bandaged, and above him was a rubble that could barely keep out the rain.
He stood up again, his body trembling, and looked around at the mercenaries before speaking, panting.
"Fire a signal flare to guide the rescue efforts."
After leaving those words, he slowly moved forward, braving the wind and rain, toward the wreckage of the damaged landing craft.
"Colonel, what are you doing?"
"Find a mech that can be operated to guide the orbital strike." Without turning his head, the colonel limped towards the ruins, rummaging through the steel tomb.
