The Necromancer's Church Management Manual
Chapter 5 Nidhogg
It was a cloudy eye, entirely gray-white, yet it shone brightly in the dark world.
wow-
With the sound of the chains rattling, its eyes slowly rose, and Garr knew that it had raised its head.
The manual flew out of Gal's chest, its striking red lettering gleaming with a dangerous light.
[Warning! Your necromancy has awakened Nidhogg!]
I know! Do I need you to remind me?
Garr wanted to slap himself for suddenly thinking of using the magic circle's light to see.
Now something bad has happened.
It's Edmund's fault for not telling him that such a treasure existed in the vault.
The manual seemed to sense Garr's displeasure and briefly presented Nidhogg's information:
Name: Nidhogg
[Race: Black Dragon]
[Rank: Lv102 (Legendary)]
Status: Sealed
Lv102......
Garr knelt down on the spot.
The current situation is exactly like encountering the Demon King's Castle Boss right after leaving the beginner village.
Fight? Fight my ass! One casual swipe of its paw would be enough to send Gar to heaven.
The murky dragon eye flickered in the darkness, then rapidly magnified in Gal's field of vision.
The cold dragon breath sprayed onto his face.
"This is...a disgusting death contract."
Nidhogg spoke, his voice trembling, making Gar's hair stand on end.
"Lord Black Dragon, no offense intended."
Finally, Gar spoke, and his blank mind began to work rapidly.
Nidhogg did not kill him immediately, but instead engaged in dialogue, indicating that there was room for negotiation.
Gar also discovered the information in the manual: "Status: Sealed".
I was so focused on level 102 that I didn't notice anything else.
From the limited information Andrew had, Garr knew that Nidhogg had fought alongside the first king and was a founding hero of the Kingdom of Slo.
Such a meritorious person is now sealed away in this dark and sunless underground.
Thinking of this, Garr had a few ideas in his mind, so he sat up and said respectfully:
"I am Andrew Cardisia, son of the Duke of Gusenberg."
"The Cardiac family... having heretics who worship the god of death is certainly a headache." Nidhogg raised his claws:
"Let me help with the cleanup."
"Wait! It was the late King Edmund who sent me."
The claws, accompanied by a strong gust of wind, stopped in front of Gar, who nearly lost his life.
"Bourbon, that bastard sent you here?!"
Nidhogg's initial intention to provoke Garr sank instantly, and his tone became tinged with anger.
"Yes...yes, he died nine years ago on his way to conquer the Minoan kingdom. Later, his spirit came to me, asking me to make a pact with him and to bring me to this place."
A cold sweat ran down Garr's back, filled with the lingering fear of surviving a close call.
When Andrew went to plunder the Sanctuary of Glory, it was indeed Edmund who approached him and they signed a pact of mutual equality among the dead.
Later, after Gar replaced Andrew, he sought help from Edmund because of the crisis of the God of Death, and obtained information about this underground treasure.
So Gal's answer was half true and half false, even though he had almost died just now.
"Nine years ago? What time is it now?"
"It is now the 9th year of the Shire calendar..."
"When did Edmund die?"
"It should be Edmund 26?"
"Just one year after he sealed me away... so he was already dead... no wonder he didn't unseal me... I knew it, you were fooled and wouldn't believe me..."
Nidhogg's voice lowered, the anger from before receding like the tide, replaced by an unspeakable weariness.
"Can you still summon the junior of Cardissa?"
Gar felt his body go empty and shook his head helplessly. That afternoon, he had just exhausted his magic and life force to barely summon Edmund. Now, his magic was depleted and his condition was extremely poor. Summoning him again would be the death of him.
"His Majesty Edmund is too powerful; I cannot summon him again unless I have sufficient magic power."
"That's easy."
Nidhogg stood up, his massive body causing the ground to tremble slightly.
At this moment, countless light sources rose up like flames, illuminating the pitch-black environment.
Gar narrowed his eyes, finally getting a clear look at Nidhogg's appearance.
Its body was as thick and heavy as a black mountain range, and its ferocious head was covered with several giant horns with sharp spikes, as if it were wearing a crown made of black thorns.
At this moment, however, several iron chains, each as thick as Bigal's hand, were tightly bound around Nidhogg's body, head, hands, and feet, making it difficult for him to move.
The iron chain extended all the way, eventually pointing to the nine pillars on all sides.
Nidhogg's thick dragon tail swayed slowly, its dark scales reflecting a cold, inky green light as it peered into the mountain of treasure behind it.
After sweeping away the dragon-patterned gold coins on the top layer, an even more precious purple crystal was revealed inside.
The crystal emitted a pale purple glow, allowing Gar to sense the pure magic contained within it.
"Set up a necromancy summoning circle, junior."
Nidhogg rolled up several magic crystals and placed them in front of Gar.
"...Okay," Gar nodded, biting his fingertips until they were covered in sores, and bent down to begin drawing.
When he stood up again, Nidhogg produced a staff from who-knows-where and held it in front of Gar.
"This can improve the utilization of magic power, so use it to guide the magic power of the magic crystal."
Garr took the staff. The staff was exquisite, smooth and warm to the touch, and the top was inlaid with a sparkling blue gemstone.
The manual opens its pages and records its information.
【Hephaestus' Staff (Epic)】
[Description: Hephaestus' masterpiece, which can greatly improve the efficiency of magic use and conversion]
He took a deep breath, placed the crystals around the magic circle, and touched the ground with his staff. Instantly, several magic crystals established a connection with the staff.
With a thought, Garr unleashed the magic power of the crystal like a torrent, pouring it into the summoning circle.
A dark purple light shot into the sky, and within seconds, black mist swirled around the center of the magic circle, from which a familiar, tall figure emerged.
Edmund didn't look at Nidhogg, but turned to Gar.
"It seems you succeeded."
Garr pointed to Nidhogg behind him: "It was Lord Black Dragon who ordered me to summon you, Your Majesty Edmund."
Edmund listened, but did not turn around; he simply lowered his head silently.
Nidhogg didn't say a word either, tilting his head and remaining silent.
The man and the dragon were so in sync yet so distant, while only Gar stood by, bewildered.
No, Lord Black Dragon, didn't you tell me to call him out? Why are you suddenly silent?
And Your Majesty Edmund, why do you look like you can't even look at the black dragon? Where is your usual majestic and domineering demeanor? Answer me!
Gar wiped imaginary sweat from his brow, steeled himself, and grabbed Edmund's armor, pleading in a low voice, "Your Majesty Edmund, the Black Dragon almost killed me just now. If you don't say something, I feel like I'm not far from death. Please, for the sake of our contract, okay?"
"Kardisia's junior! This is our business! You have no right to interrupt!" Nidhogg wasn't deaf. Even though Gar was speaking very softly, it could hear everything clearly to the black dragon clan. It was somewhat annoyed and lashed out at Gar with its tail.
Fortunately, Edmund finally made a move, raising his hand to barely block Nidhogg's powerful tail whip. He stumbled back several steps, cracking the ground—clearly, Nidhogg hadn't held back.
Garr shut his mouth sheepishly and hurriedly hid behind a pillar. After Nidhogg's attack, he dared not utter another word.
"Alright, Nidhogg, don't make things difficult for a little kid. He's a dragon already."
"Hmph, look at your pathetic state, Bourbon!" Nidhogg stared intently at Edmund, his twisted crown and pierced breastplate mocking him defiantly.
"Heh! You're forty years old, yet you still act like a child, throwing tantrums..."
"Shut up..."
"It feels good to be killed by your descendants, doesn't it?!"
"Shut up!" Edmund's necromancer blade emanated from the countless souls of the dead, their lamentations and anguish, but this power was for Edmund's use.
He stepped forward, his dark green sword flashing out as it clashed with Nidhogg's tail.
A terrifying shockwave instantly rippled through the air, sending up dust and smoke from the surrounding area.
"Do you think I want to die like this, without knowing why?!"
Edmund's previously solemn and authoritative voice suddenly choked with emotion as he passionately accused:
"That son of a bitch, I shouldn't have trusted him! My child, my wife, everything I have, has been ruined by this bastard who called me father! How can I accept this!"
