The Necromancer's Church Management Manual
Chapter 38 Post-Event Handling
The air was filled with a chilling atmosphere and the smell of burning.
Selena's battle here is also coming to an end.
Although the Knight Commander was very strong, he was ultimately no match for the Diamond-level Summoner and the Priest, and was defeated by the three summoned creatures.
Gar carried the unconscious Zane back to the room filled with ice crystals, tossed him onto the bed that had been charred black by the fire, and looked toward the door.
"Selena, are you alright?"
"Thanks to your sister, everything turned out alright," Selena praised, giving Lucia a gentle smile.
Garr also approvingly approached Lucia and gently stroked her head.
"Little sister, you did a great job."
Lucia felt her brother's unfamiliar touch, her voice hoarse: "I just did what I could, brother."
"Don't worry, I'll rescue Father soon too." Gar patted his chest. "Just like I promised you, I promise."
"Really?" Lucia looked at Gar's solemn expression, and a smile finally appeared on her tear-streaked face. "Then I'll trust you one more time. Don't let me regret it, brother."
"And as for Zane, you can completely ignore what he says." Gal began to list Zane's crimes: "He owes thousands of Dragonscale Gold Coins in debt at the Black Gold Society's casino; moreover, he maliciously increased various taxes in Dark Twilight City, making life unbearable for the town's residents..."
Zane's numerous crimes were no secret in Dark City; anyone could find out by asking around.
Moreover, those large numbers of refugees did not appear overnight.
If the territory hadn't been hereditary and if Zane hadn't had a large number of knights under his command, these refugees would probably have revolted long ago.
"If you don't believe me, you can wait until this guy wakes up and ask him yourself."
Lucia nodded: "I believe you, I believe you."
Garr stared at Lucia, and only breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that her emotions had calmed down.
Immediately afterwards, he turned and went to the Knight Commander who was leaning against the wall and surrounded by summoned creatures.
At this moment, the knight commander's body was still emitting bursts of electric arcs, his lower body armor was frozen by ice crystals, and his upper body armor had also shattered, clearly indicating that he had been tormented quite a bit by the three summoned creatures.
The knight commander struggled to raise his arm and lift his longsword, but it was immediately slapped away by the swift leopard beside him. The immense force aggravated his wound, causing him to twitch slightly in pain.
Garr wasn't frightened by the Knight Commander's actions. He thought about it and realized that these people were just knights guarding the place. Killing them would only cause trouble. After all, if the outside world found out that a group of guards had died, it would be hard not to wonder if something had happened here recently.
So Garr decided to let them go for now: "I know you're just doing your job guarding this place, so I won't make things difficult for you. As long as you swear to God that you won't reveal anything that happened here today, I'll let you leave."
"Hmph, a loss is a loss. The honor of the knight..."
Before the knight commander could finish his declaration, Gar coldly rebuked him: "I don't know what your past has been like, nor do I care why you are so obsessed with that empty honor. But if you remain obstinate, I don't mind making you, and all your soldiers, disappear completely."
Garr's words brushed past the knight commander's ears like ice blades, their biting cold even colder than the ice crystals binding him at that moment.
The knight commander subconsciously glanced at the elite knights lying on the ground, severely wounded. Some of them had already fainted completely, while others were still looking at him with expectant eyes.
They were all married men, and guarding the Earl's mansion was simply their job. After their shift ended, they would take off their armor, return to their roles as fathers and husbands, and go back to their warm homes.
The knight commander realized that if he were to sacrifice his own life, and the lives of countless pillars of families, for his elusive knighthood, even if he had the chance to obtain noble status, he would still feel guilty.
Thinking of this, he looked up at Gar again, his expression complicated.
"I...I understand."
The knight commander held his hand to his chest: "I, Ron, swear to the god of war that what happened today will be completely forgotten and buried in my memory, just like yesterday's dream, and I will never mention it to anyone or anything again."
After Ron swore his oath, the icy ice on his feet melted away, and he was able to stand up again.
Seeing this, the other knights looked at each other in bewilderment and then placed their hands over their chests, swearing oaths one after another.
"Very good!" Gar waved his hand: "If you're injured, rest and recover. If you're fine, continue your patrol."
Watching the elite knights help each other leave the mansion, and after Gard retrieved a few more undead, the entire corridor became much emptier.
The next step was to sign a slave contract with Zane.
Looking at the unconscious Zane, Garr stroked his chin.
Ugh, how do I get this slave contract done?
Although he knew about the contract, Gal had no experience signing it.
Just then, there was a loud banging on the mansion's gate:
"Master Zain! Is the goods ready?"
"Ah!" Accompanied by a distant shout from outside, Phoebe, who was hiding under the dressing table, screamed in fright, followed by uncontrollable trembling.
Gal was startled by Phoebe, and only then did he notice the orc girl hiding under the dressing table.
I was so busy fighting that I completely forgot about her.
Gal walked to the dressing table, squatted down, looked at the drab Phoebe, and asked, "Do you know anyone outside?"
"I...I know him." Phoebe didn't dare to be negligent towards this terrifying person who could easily defeat her master, and quickly told him everything she knew:
"He's a slave trader. His master sent him here today... to... sell us to him."
Selling slaves... Zane is currently heavily in debt, and selling slaves to pay off his debts is indeed a way to raise funds.
But, slave traders?
Garr couldn't help but find it somewhat amusing; what a coincidence! He needed a slave contract, exactly what he needed.
He donned the Faceless Mantle, changed his appearance, and immediately went to open the main gate.
Outside the door were several prison vans covered with tarpaulins, surrounded by several burly, fierce men. The one knocking on the door was a thin man with gold teeth and a scarred face.
He was rubbing his hands together when he saw who it was, and his body stiffened.
"You are..." He didn't expect that the person who opened the door was a strange man, and he squinted as he looked Gar up and down.
Gar did not respond to his question, but instead said calmly, "Lord Zane is currently speaking with the bishop of the Church of Light, so it is inconvenient for him to meet with you right now. The matter of selling slaves may have to be put on hold for the time being."
"Set aside?" The skinny man's face darkened. "This... I came all this way, but that's not how business is done."
"Don't worry about that. If Lord Zane can reach an agreement with the Church of Light, he will receive a huge sum of money, and then he can naturally buy more slaves from you." Garr's expression remained unchanged as he casually made a promise to reassure the other party.
"Alright then! I hope Uncle Zane will come often!" The skinny man felt much more at ease after receiving the promise.
"By the way, do you have any scrolls of slave contracts on hand?"
"That's what I do for a living, of course I have this stuff!" The skinny man took a scroll out of his pouch:
"2 dragon-patterned silver coins".
