The Necromancer's Church Management Manual

Chapter 16 Audience with Icarus

To pay homage to the emperor.

As Gar silently chanted in his heart, golden characters instantly spread out like water, covering the entire paper with this touch of gold.

A beam of light shone down from above Garl's head, suddenly brightening the dim church. Garl couldn't help but look up, only to see that a phantom sphere composed of white wings had somehow materialized in the gray dome.

As the sphere solidified, its six wings slowly unfurled, revealing the white-robed, golden-haired God of Light within. At that moment, He was hugging His knees, His eyes slightly closed, as if He were asleep.

Garr spoke respectfully: "Praise be to the light, Lord Icarus."

Upon hearing the sound, Icarus slowly opened his golden eyes and looked at Gar.

Then He rushed over and wrapped his arms around his neck.

"You're quite capable, Apostle! You've actually restored a sliver of my divine power!"

Yes, Icarus was a god only the size of Gar's head, and his arms were only wide enough to wrap around Gar's neck.

And with great force.

Gar was almost suffocating, his face covered by Icarus's wings, and he could barely make a sound with all his might.

"You have followers... Lord Icarus."

"ah."

Icarus then noticed a dirty little girl beside him and separated from Gal.

Eugenie was speechless with surprise, her mouth slightly agape, her eyes wide as she stared unblinkingly at the suddenly appearing Icarus.

He immediately changed his demeanor, placing one hand on his chest and extending the other slightly towards the girl. His expression softened, and a slight smile played on his lips, like an elegant nun, as he spoke to the girl:

"My devout and kind believer, what do you ask of me?"

Gar had witnessed firsthand what it meant to change faces faster than flipping through a book, and couldn't help but marvel at Icarus's ability to quickly switch roles when facing different people.

When Icarus suddenly asked Eugenie the question, her courage, which she had just mustered, instantly vanished.

"God... God... Your... Lord, I... um..."

Faced with the unattainable deity, she timidly lowered her head, clutching the hem of her tattered clothes, her voice barely audible.

"Her name is Eugenie," Gar explained for Eugenie. "She is your first believer, and I promised her to be your follower."

"I see, I understand now." Icarus nodded, then leaned close to Gal's ear and pleaded, "Don't make such promises again, Apostle. Providing blessings consumes my divine power, and I've only just recovered a little; I don't have much to begin with."

"I'm sorry, Lord Icarus," Gar said quietly, clasping his hands together. "I'll promise less of these things next time, but I definitely need your help this time. Otherwise, I'll lose my credibility, and it'll be troublesome to recruit followers later!"

"I just can't do anything with you~"

Icarus shrugged, immediately wiping away his helpless smile, and went to Eugenie, greeting her warmly:

"Eugenie, lift your head and look at me."

His voice was ethereal, and Eugenie couldn't help but raise her head as instructed, but when her gaze met Icarus's golden eyes, she subconsciously looked away, her lips trembling slightly.

Icarus didn't care. He extended his index finger and gently touched the muddy forehead, and a pale golden light flowed into Eugenie's body.

"In the name of Icarus, I bestow upon Eugenie the blessing of the God of Light, that you may use this blessing wisely to promote the Church."

When Icarus bestowed the blessing, there was no dazzling light screen like that of the Temple of War. The ritual was completed when the stream of light entered Eugenie's body.

The light in the church disappeared after the blessing was given. Gar could see with his naked eye that Icarus's golden eyes dimmed slightly for a moment. Was this the price of the blessing?

Icarus turned to look at Gar, his face grim, a hint of weariness in his eyes, even his wings, which had just unfurled, drooped slightly. He leaned close to Gar's ear and spoke slowly:

"Really, when it comes to blessings, usually only one or two out of a hundred believers are chosen. There are too few believers now, and the little divine power we just received is all gone... Next time, you must recruit at least a hundred believers before mentioning blessings to me, okay?"

Garl raised his hands helplessly: "Understood, I won't use this as a reward next time."

"It's not impossible, but I only have the strength of a third-level god right now. Once I have a thousand followers, I will advance to a second-level god, and the consumption from this blessing will be much less." Icarus yawned, seemingly really sleepy. He waved his hand: "Well then, Apostle, I'll have to keep up the good work. My divine power is exhausted, and I'm about to fall into... slumber again."

As He spoke, His body gradually became ethereal and transparent. He hugged His legs again, His wings narrowed, completely enveloping Him, and finally disappeared into the church.

After watching Icarus leave, Gar felt somewhat helpless. He only now realized that the blessings bestowed by the gods were draining for them. No wonder the gods didn't provide blessings to every believer.

Now things are getting complicated. Garr's original plan was to have Icarus grant blessings to believers who performed well. Now it seems he has to change his planned contribution system. At the very least, the reward for followers should be set as the highest reward, and only the best-performing believers should have the opportunity to receive it.

With that thought in mind, he turned his gaze to Eugenie.

Eugenie kept her eyes closed as a massive amount of information flooded into her mind after Icarus bestowed his blessing.

As a member of the Familiar, she gains abilities and professions, and the rules governing the ranks of members, as well as the methods for leveling up, etc.

When she opened her eyes again, her demeanor had completely changed; she was no longer timid, and her bright eyes were filled with joy.

"Thank you for your blessing, God!" But when she wanted to tell Icarus this joy, she found that only the bishop was beside her in the church, and the god had disappeared, as if he had never been there.

This left her with a sense of loss, but she still looked at the bishop and said gratefully:

"Bishop Garr, I will certainly make good use of this power to make more contributions to the Church of Light."

Holding the business manual, Gar sincerely offered his blessings:

"May light illuminate your path, Eugenie."

Then, he took Eugenie's small hand and placed it on the handbook, whereupon her information appeared on the page:

Name: Eugenie

[Level: Lv1]

[Faith: God of Light]

[Occupation: Envoy of Light]

[Blessing: Divine Protection, Divine Purification]

"Thank you, Bishop Garr." Eugenie began to wipe the mud off her face, revealing a slightly sallow complexion. Her mother had deliberately made her look dirty and ugly to protect her, but now, with the blessing of the gods, she no longer had to live in fear as before.

And all of this was given to her by the Bishop of Gar.

This made Eugenie secretly determined to repay Bishop Gard's kindness.
