A fantastical journey across the heavens, beginning with the Witcher.
Chapter 39: The War Begins!
The air first exploded with a blinding white light, which was the magical shock generated when forcibly passing through the unformed portal.
The bomb, held in the palm of the hand, shattered under the crushing weight of the bone-armored knuckles before it could even produce a complete explosion.
It didn't explode; it was crushed.
As the steel gauntlet unfolded, bomb fragments mixed with magic-blocking gold powder slowly drifted down, without even a speck of dust settling on the pitch-black armor.
The owner of the steel-armored gloves stood in the center of the battlefield, his entire body covered in black heavy armor with no exposed parts. From the skull jaw on the helmet to the rib patterns on the breastplate, from the ferocious spikes on the shoulder armor to the soles of the armored boots, every inch was forged into a grotesque white bone shape.
He simply stood there, exuding an overwhelming sense of oppression. The skull helmet had no pupils in its sunken eye sockets, only two clusters of ghostly blue soul fire burning quietly.
A wide, two-handed greatsword was slung diagonally over his shoulder, its blade gleaming with a deathly cold light.
There were no provocative gestures, no arrogant shouts.
With just a slight lift of his chin, the clamor of the entire battlefield seemed to be cut off by an invisible hand.
The Wild Hunt general makes his appearance.
Li De twisted his neck, assumed a starting stance, and stared at his enemy with golden cat eyes. His gaze was neither angry, intimidating, joyful, nor sorrowful, but it was so cold that it chilled one to the bone.
The Toussaint steel sword was held horizontally at his side, its tip pointing straight ahead, and the Svaro runestone burst forth with an unprecedentedly brilliant light.
Their eyes met, and the air between them fell silent, as if crushed by the tension of their confrontation.
At the same time, space began to twist and tear, and one after another, dark blue portals took shape. Terrifying white frost surged out of the portals, spreading wildly like living slime, greedily eroding this world.
A squad of Wild Hunt warriors stepped out first, their metal boots landing on the ground and kicking up a few fine flakes of frost.
Following closely behind were countless Wild Hunt projections, their blue-green souls crowding, floating, and roaring, surging out of the portal like a tidal wave, threatening to completely fill the entire cave.
The elven warriors, who had not yet stepped into the portal, stood in silent formation, swordsmen in front and archers behind, protecting their people with their own flesh and blood.
The druid, with his dry, white hair, muttered something under his breath, sounding like a curse, but his hands moved swiftly and decisively.
A green magical light shone from his body, and countless vines, like giant snakes that had come to life, burst forth from under his robes, transforming into a surging sea of tree snakes in just a few breaths.
Olivia pursed her lips, not complaining about how unfair fate was, playing such a cruel joke before hope could arrive.
She calmly completed the spell preparations, golden and blue lightning crackling around her fingertips, dazzling and brilliant.
The Wild Hunt general's gaze swept over the crowd, finally settling on the most imposing Witcher, as if scrutinizing an unexpectedly tenacious insect.
Then, a deep, ancient, and cold Elvish language slowly flowed from beneath the closed skull mask.
The syllables are haughty and indifferent, carrying the approval of a superior towards their prey, and a hint of condescending invitation.
"Excellent warrior, you do not belong to this world. Join us, for endless battles and wars are your destiny."
Li De glanced at the warlock and druid, who were surrounded by dazzling lights, and thought to himself: "The mage is indeed a mage. They all have their own special effects, but he looks like a plain-looking warrior. If it weren't for the Svaro rune stone adding some light effects, he would have gone from a hero unit to an NPC minion."
Upon hearing Elvish, he snapped out of his daze and replied calmly, "Can you speak Common?"
The Wild Hunt general gave no further response, as if the recruitment was merely a formality and he didn't care whether the prey understood.
Li De sneered.
Okay, if you don't understand and can't reach an agreement, then there's no need to talk anymore. Let's settle things with our actions!
The moment he raised his hand, the Igni sign erupted!
Intense magical flames surged from his palm, transforming into a sea of fire that engulfed the entire cave.
The mages in the Wild Hunt squad simultaneously raised their staffs, and pale, icy lightning bolts roared forth, precisely intercepting the oncoming wave of fire.
The white lightning was quite powerful, piercing through the flames instantly with a single point, but Li De simply sidestepped and dodged it.
The seal continued to be activated, and the high temperature of the flames completely overwhelmed the white frost, covering every inch of the land in front of him.
The Wild Hunt general remained motionless, his imposing heavy armor shimmering with magical light, and the flames could not penetrate any further when they reached within half a meter of him.
Although the other Wild Hunt warriors were engulfed in flames, their bodies were still firmly protected by alchemical armor that radiated frost.
Only the ghostly projection of the Wild Hunt, emitting a mournful howl amidst the flames, slowly dissipated.
The Wild Hunt mage's face darkened, and he immediately erected a protective spell. A shield of icy light, gleaming with a chilling glow, stretched across the battlefield, transforming into a thick ice wall that firmly blocked the waves of fire.
The cave was instantly split in two: one side was as scorching as hell, and the other side was as cold as an abyss, with the barrier as the boundary, and the two extreme temperatures were in a fierce confrontation.
At that very moment, the druid and Olivia completed their spells simultaneously.
The vines, like a swarm of giant pythons, snaked forward, freezing and breaking layer by layer under the impact of the white frost, yet they continued to grow wildly to fill the gaps.
Olivia's lightning spell was incredibly powerful; the dazzling bolts of lightning slammed into the ice shield, tearing a crack in it with a single blow!
Seizing the opportunity, Li De suddenly jerked his arm, and the even hotter flames transformed into surging waves, relentlessly crashing against the increasingly fragile ice wall.
Crack!
Cracks spread rapidly along the gap created by the lightning strike, and within two breaths, the ice shield shattered completely. The frost line was forced back into the portal, and the wraiths that had just been replenished were once again incinerated by the flames.
At this moment, the Wild Hunt general's shoulder armor trembled slightly, his two-handed greatsword resting on his shoulder rose in the same motion, his metal boots slammed heavily on the ground, and then he began to charge!
The fourteen Wild Hunt warriors who descended in their true form followed closely behind, while the remaining wraiths howled in agony as they frantically struggled against the flames.
Seeing that Igni's flames were ineffective against these "pay-to-win" players clad in alchemical armor, Li De simply withdrew his hand seals, gripped his steel sword horizontally, and charged at the Wild Hunt army.
The distance of twenty-odd steps passed in the blink of an eye. The Wild Hunt general's two-handed greatsword, carrying immense force, slashed down, the broadsword colliding fiercely with the Toussaint steel sword, sparks flying.
The sharp clang of metal clashing tore through the battlefield.
The weight of that heavy sword far exceeded Li De's expectations, and pure brute force surged through the blade.
Li De's knuckles were taut and white, and a tingling numbness ran through his arm bones. This was the first time he had ever been at a disadvantage in terms of strength when he clashed head-on with a humanoid creature.
The steel sword was suddenly pressed down by the heavy sword and was about to strike his face. Li De's waist and abdomen tensed instantly, and he swiftly dodged to the side.
The greatsword grazed his shoulder armor, the immense momentum causing the Wild Hunt general's arm to slam heavily into the ground, sending large shards of frost and stone flying.
In the blink of an eye, Li De formed a hand seal with his left hand and unleashed the Alder Seal head-on without reservation!
A visible shockwave exploded from the center of the palm, creating ripples in the air, and the violent magical shockwave rushed straight towards the face of the Wild Hunt general.
The skeleton armor only flashed with a faint blue magical light, and the thick armor, like an impenetrable wall, withstood the impact.
A powerful blow that would knock an adult brown bear to the ground only caused the Wild Hunt general's helmet to tilt back and him to take a small step back.
On the contrary, the Wild Hunt squad that followed closely behind was thrown back by the aftershocks of the sign, their formation instantly collapsed, and several people almost fell to the ground, with the crisp sound of armor clashing creating chaos.
Taking advantage of the situation, Li De turned around and shot past the Wild Hunt general like an arrow, crashing straight into the chaotic squad.
Before the enemy could react, he flipped his wrist and raised the Toussaint steel sword high.
In the blink of an eye, the most domineering heavy slash in the Xiong School swordsmanship had already been prepared and completed.
With the enhancement of the Swaro runestone, the sword drew a blazing yellow arc of light, tearing through the air as it slashed straight down!
The experienced Wild Hunt warriors, even when unsteady and off-balance, still managed to parry with their swords held horizontally.
But the Wild Hunt general was able to overpower Li De because of the overwhelming weapon advantage of his greatsword.
For a mere soldier wielding an ordinary longsword, expecting to withstand a full-force attack from a Bear Clan demon hunter while off-balance was nothing short of wishful thinking.
clang!!
The cracking sound of metal breaking was extremely piercing.
The Toussaint steel sword, imbued with the power of the Svaro runes, cleaved a deep, jagged gash in the Wild Hunt warrior's longsword, cruelly slicing through the parrying blade and striking the opponent's shoulder armor without any resistance.
The alchemical armor was as fragile as paper before the runic steel sword. The blade swept away everything in its path, severing shoulder blades, splitting spines, and embedding itself deep into flesh.
Hot, viscous blood gushed out from the spine of the sword, splattering all over Li De's armor and mask.
By a hair's breadth, the Wild Hunt warrior's body would have been cleaved in two.
The moment blood splattered, Li De drew his sword and turned around. A bright yellow arc of runic light flashed again, and the clamor of the battlefield was pushed to a boiling point by this decisive blow.
