Chapter 20 "Wine" Comes Naturally
As they saw Lily off back to Beefburg, the revelry continued, and celebratory songs drifted into their ears on the wind, which seemed quite ironic.
Elena let out a cold sneer: "Hmph, they're having a good time singing, but where are the heroes of this? You've been following me around without even getting a sip of wine, Sal is still patrolling around with the city guards, and as for Lily... Lily was practically driven to 'death' by them."
The witcher quipped, "Knowing I haven't even had a drink, aren't you going to invite me to the tavern?"
These words seemed to ignite the anger and resentment in the red-haired beauty's heart. She grabbed Li De's arm, her tone resolute, as if she were already drunk: "Then let's go! Why can they celebrate while we have to be sad here!"
The two walked toward the tavern next to the square. As soon as they pushed open the wooden door, a complex smell of alcohol, meat broth, and sweat hit them, almost knocking them over.
At this moment, the hall was filled with almost all the drunkards in the city. The tables and chairs were crooked, and empty wine glasses and food scraps were scattered on the ground. Laughter, drinking games, and curses were all mixed together, creating a chaotic mess.
Elena stormed to the front desk, grabbed a drunkard who had passed out, threw him to the ground, and slammed her hand on the bar counter, yelling, "Boss! The best beer! Bring on as much as you can!"
If any other drunkard shouted like that, the bar owner would definitely roll his eyes and scoff: "You think you're rich? The best beer, my foot! I'll piss on you and you'll drink it?"
But he clearly recognized who the red-haired woman in front of him was, and then he saw the Witcher next to him. Without saying a word, he brought over a small oak barrel and slammed it onto the bar.
"Just pour yourself. The first drink is on me. From now on, Witcher, you'll get a 20% discount when you come here for drinks!"
Li De glanced at the crazy woman who seemed to want to chug down a barrel of liquor, silently prayed that she had brought money, and then decisively joined the drinking party.
Most alcoholics don't crave the aroma of alcohol itself, but rather the state of being tipsy and forgetting all their troubles.
But the Witcher's metabolism is ridiculously fast, and even if he gets drunk, he can quickly sober up. That fleeting dizziness doesn't last as long as a pee.
After drinking more than a dozen cups, Elena was already drunk and her cheeks were as red as burning flames. She could count six on her three fingers in front of her eyes, but she still stubbornly refused to admit defeat.
She first suspected Li De of cheating, so she secretly poured the wine on the ground. After watching Li De drink a few cups, she saw that he did not change his expression, and then, still not giving up, she went up and pulled at his collar.
"Let me see...did you pour alcohol into your clothes?"
Li De was both amused and exasperated. He quickly reached out and pressed her head down, gently pushing her back into her seat.
Just then, a commotion arose from the table behind them. A group of drinkers were playing Gwent, and one of them, a burly man with a fierce face, had won the game and was slamming his fist on the table, boasting loudly.
"See that? This is the top level in Redania. Don't even mention you bunch of nobodies; even in Novigrad, I'd be the undisputed King of Cards!"
Elena, who was quite drunk, overheard this and instantly became angry. She slammed her hand on the table, stood up abruptly, staggered past the other drinkers, and came to the table. She first let out a burp and then shouted incoherently.
"Hiccup... I'll take you on."
He reached into his pocket to pull out his cards, but after searching for a while, his muddled mind finally realized that he hadn't brought any cards with him when he left the house.
The burly man laughed heartily: "Little girl, if you keep touching, you'll touch your husband's penis. Do you even have any cards to play? Are you too scared to take out your cards because I'm here?"
"His breath stinks worse than a pigsty."
Li De gently patted Elena's shoulder, signaling her to calm down, then plopped down opposite the burly man, calmly took out his Gwent deck and began blind shuffling. The Gwent cards seemed to transform into winged butterflies, fluttering up and down between his fingers.
"A Witcher?" The burly man immediately became interested. "Haha, I love playing cards with you guys. Not only are you terrible at cards, but you always have rare cards. See this gold card of mine? I won it from a bald Witcher!"
Anyone can talk big, but actions speak louder than words.
The verbal exchange ended, and the card game began.
Li De's card playing style and his fighting style are two complete opposites.
On the battlefield, he was as brave as a madman, his moves always hitting the vital points, extremely aggressive; but at the card table, he was incredibly cunning, not only loving to use spy cards and dummy cards to torment his opponents, but also frequently using a Wildfire card to burn all the cards with the highest attack power on the field.
What's even more infuriating is that every win is either a narrow one or a very close one, deliberately creating the illusion for the opponent that they were just a hair's breadth away from winning.
This led to the burly man, after being disgusted once, relentlessly playing a second, third, and fourth round...
As his wallet emptied, the burly man looked at the irreversible situation on the field, slowly covered his eyes, as if this could change the inevitable outcome of his defeat.
"You won, the cards are yours..."
He trembled as he threw his prized gold card onto the table, then left the tavern without a word. Judging from his face, which looked like he'd been constipated for ten years, he probably wouldn't want to touch Gwent again for a long time.
"Whew! What a thrilling duel!"
Li Demo wiped imaginary sweat from his brow and smiled at the onlookers: "Anyone else want to play a round?"
The card players shook their heads in terror, and everyone kept their distance from the Witcher's gaze.
In a typical card game, there would be plenty of onlookers offering their opinions and shouting, but in the game just now, no one spoke; they just kept gasping for breath.
The underworld! It's so dark!
On the other side, Elena was happily counting the loose coins in her hand. They didn't even add up to two crowns, which she usually wouldn't bother to look at if they fell on the ground, but now she was counting them again and again with extra care.
Seeing Li De easily win another round, she got excited and pounced on him, kissing him on the cheek. The soft touch was fleeting, and she immediately pulled away.
Li De was taken aback by the sudden action, and immediately pretended to be at a disadvantage, wanting to kiss her back.
After making a ruckus for a while, the two of them helped each other out of the tavern, singing local folk songs that had drifted off to the tunes of neighboring countries, yet they sang with great enthusiasm.
After finishing one song, Elena grabbed Li De's arm and swayed it back and forth, her tone slightly arrogant with a hint of drunkenness: "You...you sing one too!"
Li De chuckled and didn't refuse. The next second, the extremely cheesy tune spread throughout the entire street.
"In Vikvalo, there's a maid who's very tight at night and becomes very loose in the morning..."
He'd only sung halfway through when Elena, almost sobering up, suddenly raised her hand to cover his mouth, whispering reproachfully, "Stop singing! It's too embarrassing!"
As everyone's eyes turned to her, her face grew even redder, making it hard to tell whether she was drunk or embarrassed.
He lowered his head, just about to pull Li De away hastily, when a stern, old-fashioned admonitory voice came from the side.
"Young people these days have absolutely no sense of shame."
Hearing a somewhat familiar voice, Elena stopped in her tracks, her eyes still blurry with drunkenness, and slowly looked at the person who was scolding her.
Even though she was very drunk, she recognized the face at a glance—during the public trial of Lily during the day, this old man was the one who shouted "Execute the werewolf!" the loudest!
Discontent and resentment, fueled by alcohol, overwhelmed all embarrassment and shyness, and a wicked plan took shape in his mind.
She stood on tiptoe, put her arm around Li De's shoulder, and started singing a corny, cheesy tune to the old man, her voice even louder than Li De's had been.
"In Vikvalo! There's a maid! She's tight at night! But loose in the morning!!"
The old man trembled all over as the singing began, his face turning ashen. He wanted nothing more than to raise his cane and beat the two despicable people in front of him to death, but reason told him that arguing with a drunkard was like lecturing a ghoul—a complete waste of energy.
In the end, he could only suppress his anger, stomp his foot, and turn to leave.
But the "crazy woman" didn't want to let him go. She dragged Li De along and sang to him all the way, making him so angry that he was shaking as he walked.
Every time the old man turned around and raised his cane to hit them, Elena would immediately pull Li De back and run away. As soon as the old man put down his cane, he would quickly catch up and continue singing.
"It's Vikvalo again, and another maid. She's indulging in pleasure, her face flushed with drunkenness! The third girl is also a maid. As long as she's got a penis, she's her husband. They're constantly making love, day and night!"
However, she didn't realize that she had already chased him to the square...
"cough!"
A heavy cough suddenly came from behind, and Elena, who was singing enthusiastically, was tugged twice by Li De.
"Let's sing together! Let's piss this old geezer off..."
She grew impatient with being pulled along, and while trying to get Li De to keep up with her pace, she turned around to see what was going on.
However, just one glance was enough to make her feel as if she had been doused with cold water, and most of her drunkenness dissipated.
In a corner of the square, her grandfather—the highly respected Principal Philip—stood there with a livid face and his brows furrowed so deeply they could trap a fly.
Not far away, Sal, who was patrolling the area, stood to the side with his hands behind his back, trying to suppress his laughter so hard that his lips twitched and his shoulders trembled slightly. However, due to the principal's aura, he dared not make a sound.
Elena instinctively shrank her neck, her previous arrogance vanishing without a trace, until Li De whispered a reminder: "If you don't run now, are you waiting for your grandpa to applaud you?"
The red-haired beauty snapped out of her daze and took off running, so fast that even the Witcher had to speed up to catch her.
Elena didn't know what she was thinking, but she brought Li De home.
The room, filled with the fragrance of flowers and dew, had a hint of sweetness. Even though the fireplace wasn't lit, the air was quite warm, so warm that clothes slipped off one by one.
The two bodies are strikingly beautiful. The former has fair and delicate skin with rounded curves, making it breathtakingly beautiful. The latter has slightly rough skin with bulging, angular muscles that reveal abundant power in every movement.
Elena grabbed Li De's calloused hand and placed it on her waist. She stood on tiptoe and wrapped her arms around his neck. A faint smell of alcohol wafted into his ear, and her tone was a mix of seduction and provocation.
"Didn't you say last time that you smelled something different on my fingers? This time, smell them for yourself..."
The air is a bit too hot!
