Chapter 14 Tracking
The Blood Demon let out a low roar, suddenly opened its claws, and pounced towards Elena.
Just at this critical moment, a clear wolf howl suddenly rang out from behind.
"Awoo!"
Immediately afterwards, a tall, dark figure leaped over overhead, bringing with it a sharp gust of wind, and pounced straight at the Blood Demon.
Elena froze in shock, watching as a werewolf with black fur, a wolf's head, and a lithe body grappled with the Blood Demon, its claws and teeth bared as it desperately tried to block the Blood Demon's attacks.
"This is……"
She turned to look at the students behind her, only to find them all utterly shocked. One female student was crying, muttering to herself, "Lily...it's Lily! She's turned into a monster!"
The werewolf was Lily.
She gritted her teeth, suppressing the wolfish instincts within her that threatened to attack humans, and followed her hunting instincts, desperately trying to kill the blood demon before her.
Werewolves are inherently weaker than Blood Demons, and this Blood Demon has been completely transformed, its body covered in thick steel armor, which even Li De's silver sword could not penetrate.
The young werewolf was no match for it.
In just a few rounds, Lily was covered in wounds from the Blood Demon's claws. In some minor wounds, the flesh was torn open, while in others, the wounds were so deep that the bone was visible. Dark red blood flowed from the wounds, staining her black fur.
In excruciating pain, Lily's eyes turned bloodshot, and she bit down hard on the Blood Demon's neck. Her sharp canines tore through the steel armor around its neck, leaving a deep wound on the Blood Demon's body.
Before I could even feel happy, a numbing sensation spread from the tip of my tongue to my brain, followed by dizziness.
She was startled—the Blood Demon's blood was poisonous!
By the time they realized this, it was too late.
The sharp claws pierced straight through the girl's abdomen, and the icy touch instantly spread throughout her body.
She closed her eyes in agony, already imagining the horrific scene of being torn in two by the monster.
"In the end, we still couldn't protect everyone..."
However, what followed was not more intense pain, but the crisp sound of shattering glass and the Blood Demon's agonizing scream.
Lily opened her eyes in confusion, only to see shards of glass reflecting the dappled sunlight. A tall, blood-soaked figure, bathed in the sunlight, leaped high into the air, his silver sword deeply embedded in the Blood Demon's neck.
After rushing as fast as he could, Li De finally caught up.
From a distance, he saw werewolves and blood demons fighting each other. Although he wondered why the werewolves were here, it didn't stop him from taking advantage of the chaos!
Taking advantage of the Blood Demon being entangled by the werewolf and the steel armor around its neck being torn open, Li De simply smashed the glass window next to him, seized the moment when the Blood Demon lifted the werewolf above its head, preparing to tear it to pieces, drew his silver sword, and pointed it directly at the monster's weak point in its neck.
"Ald!"
The moment he landed, Li De rolled to dissipate the force, and used the Alder sign to knock both monsters away at the same time.
The werewolf, being lighter, was slammed hard against the supporting pillar behind him and lost consciousness; while the blood demon, with its steel armor and bulky build, was only sent flying a few meters before crashing heavily onto a bookshelf, causing it to collapse and scattering books all over the ground.
Blood Demon struggled to his feet, as if he had suddenly received some command. He stopped fighting and turned to run out of the study building.
Li De flicked his finger, took out a crossbow from his pouch, put a bolt loaded with tracking spider silk into the slot, cocked it, aimed, and fired.
The crossbow bolts whistled through the air and precisely struck the gaps in the armor plates.
The arrow shattered instantly, and orange, deformed spider silk rapidly seeped out, spreading slightly along the gaps in the armor before quickly solidifying into fine orange spider silk that stuck firmly to the Blood Demon's body.
Li De did not pursue, but stood still, his gaze following the Blood Demon's back, confirming that the spider silk traces were clear.
Then, his gaze turned coldly to the werewolf lying unconscious on the ground not far away, his tone completely flat: "There's one more."
As he spoke, he picked up his silver sword and walked step by step toward the werewolf.
"etc!"
Once she came to her senses, Elena rushed forward, spread her arms, and stood firmly in front of the Witcher, her eyes stubborn and refusing to give an inch.
"She's my student!"
"She's a werewolf."
The Witcher remained unmoved.
"But she saved us!"
Elena's voice trembled slightly, yet remained resolute, "If it weren't for her, these students and I would have been torn to shreds by the Blood Demon long ago. Please don't kill her!"
Li De stopped in his tracks, his grip on the silver sword tightened slightly, and his golden cat eyes fell on the unconscious werewolf.
The image of the other person, even though he was seriously injured, never retreated a single step and did his best to stand in front of the students flashed through his mind.
If she transformed on instinct, she should have turned and run away when she was no match for the Blood Demon, and would never have risked her life to protect humanity.
These facts are sufficient to prove that the other party has always remained rational.
Two years ago, Li De also saw a werewolf who could control its nature. Every time it was about to transform on the eve of a full moon, it would hide in the deep mountains and forests to avoid hurting people.
At the time, he chose to let the other party go, and now he has no reason to confront the sword in front of him.
"Okay, you've convinced me."
He slowly lowered his hand, the tip of the silver sword gradually moving away from Lily, and slowly inserted it into the scabbard. Then he took out a bottle of potion from his waist pouch.
Seeing that Elena still wouldn't back down, he spread his arms even wider, blocking her way.
Li De could only patiently explain, "While werewolves have strong regenerative abilities, they are far from being able to regenerate heads or be immortal. She drank the Blood Demon's poisonous blood and had her internal organs pierced by claws; she was already close to death. This bottle of Swallow Potion can stop the internal bleeding and save her life."
Upon hearing this, the wariness in Elena's eyes gradually faded, and she stepped aside to make way for her.
Li De stepped forward and slowly fed the swallow medicine into the wolf's mouth. Only after watching the medicine completely enter its throat did he slowly release his grip.
After a short while, Lily's eyes trembled slightly, and she slowly opened them.
Upon seeing Elena and her classmates still alive, a hint of joy flashed across her pale face. Just as she was about to speak, she saw her classmates scatter and back away, their eyes filled with fear.
Lily was startled. She looked down at her furry claws and wolf body, and suddenly remembered that she was still in werewolf form. The joy in her eyes vanished instantly, replaced by a deep sense of desolation.
Her body trembled slightly, and the wolf's jaws, claws, and fur slowly retracted into her body, transforming her back into a young girl.
His clothes were already tattered from being stretched by the wolf's body, and the mottled fabric could barely cover his private parts.
Seeing this, Li De silently took off his short cloak and casually tossed it to the girl, saying in a flat tone, "Put this on."
……
A while later, Sal arrived with a large number of support guards, followed by several apprentices who knew medicine.
The guards immediately dispersed and methodically cleared away the wreckage and carried the wounded, while the apprentices quickly took out their makeshift medical kits to treat the wounds, stop the bleeding, and relieve the pain. The once chaotic and desolate library gradually came into order.
Li De's gaze swept over the busy crowd, and he quickly walked to Sal's side, patted him on the shoulder, and gestured for him to come aside and talk.
Sal understood and followed him to a corner of the library, lowering his voice to ask, "What's wrong? Any new discoveries?"
"I didn't kill the third Blood Demon just now," Li De said in a low voice, concisely. "I left tracking devices on it and deliberately let it escape back to its lair. I'm going to chase after it now and find out who's controlling it."
"No, the risk is too high. I'll bring some people with me, just in case!"
"No need. Too many people will only alert them, and too much noise will be more dangerous. You stay here, continue rescuing people, cleaning up the scene, and guarding the academy to prevent any further accidents."
He paused, his eyes sharpening, and his voice lowering.
"Also, there's no need to try and find evidence to entrap him. I'm certain Gillen is definitely involved. Find a reasonable excuse to 'protect' him, have people keep a close eye on him, and don't let him escape."
Sal was startled, then nodded emphatically: "Don't worry, I know how to do this."
As the two were talking, Elena quickly walked over, her face showing some embarrassment and guilt. She stood in front of the Witcher, bowed slightly, and said, "Li De, I'm sorry about earlier."
Li De raised an eyebrow, signaling her to continue.
"I was too hasty just now. I was afraid that you would act impulsively and kill Lily, so I stopped you at all costs. My tone might not have been very nice."
Elena looked up, her eyes full of sincerity: "And thank you, thank you for arriving in time to save me and the students. Without you, we probably wouldn't have survived."
Li De waved his hand: "No need to thank me."
Her little emotional outburst was hardly a conflict for the Witcher.
Normally, the scorn that witchers receive is truly outrageous. They are watched like thieves, and it is common for them to be driven away as soon as they arrive at the village entrance.
Even when they need something from the Witcher, they always treat him with the attitude of "use him when needed, discard him when not needed."
It was beyond his expectations that Elena would apologize for such a small matter.
Upon hearing this, Elena's guilt faded slightly, and then, remembering something, a glimmer of hope appeared in her eyes as she softly asked.
"By the way, could you give me some more of that medicine you just gave Lily? There are two other students who are seriously injured and their wounds are still bleeding. I want to try to see if I can save them."
Li De shook his head decisively: "No, the Swallow Potion is highly poisonous. Only Lily, being a werewolf, can resist the poison. If an ordinary person drinks it, their screams will echo throughout the entire Bullburg Academy."
She gently bit her lower lip and whispered, "Okay, I understand. I was too impatient."
After saying that, he turned and walked toward the injured student, his eyes filled with heartache and helplessness.
Li De watched her retreating figure without saying anything more. He checked the potions and weapons at his waist, then followed the orange spider silk in the direction the Blood Demon had fled.
Next, it was the familiar scene of "it flees, he chases, it can't escape even with wings."
