Chapter 29 The First Step to Avoiding War: Starting a War
"The Iron Curtain?"
Upon hearing this seemingly familiar word, a hint of confusion flashed in Kong Jiu's eyes.
"Yes, yes! The Iron Curtain, that one in the sky, you must have noticed it, right?"
The big rat excitedly pointed to the sky above, as if it could really see the sky from this sewer deep underground, and wagged its tail proudly.
Kongjiu then noticed that it had a full thirteen rat tails, like a tuft of whiskers swaying slightly in the dim light.
"Iron Sky, Eosge, call it whatever you want, even the Ten-Perfect Old Man of the East used it, anyway, it's the kind of monstrosity that the men turned the lower city into this."
Arthur spoke with great liveliness, rubbing his furry face with his front paws, displaying the typical excited expression of a rodent, his dark little eyes shining.
"Destroying that thing, let alone liberating the lower classes, should at least prevent the powerful from exploiting them for decades. That should be achievable."
We can't let the men exploit us to the bone.
Kong Jiu's heart tightened.
Could illegal immigrants, boosters, cults... all be related to that thing in the sky?
"I don't understand what you mean, and I don't know what the Iron Curtain, destruction, and chaos are."
Kong Jiu touched his chest, where a pebble was hidden in his pocket, a pebble with the dice side sticking out.
His fingertips touched the slightly protruding contour, which calmed him down a little. "But, since Neos told you about this, if it is the source of chaos, I am willing to destroy it."
Although they didn't trust this strange rat, in this world, the only people who knew they had a system that could detect them were Neos or Li Yingying.
Kong Jiu considered both of these people to be trustworthy and quite favorable.
"Then what should I do? How can I save them?"
"It's very simple!"
The big rat darted back to the sofa and pulled a board covered with symbols from a crevice.
"I've planned everything: a crisis of trust between the two factions, a chain of suspicion, and the escalation of the crisis!"
"From initiating war to stopping it, saving lives, developing manpower, and ending wartime by destroying the Iron Dome!"
Arthur held up the plank, pointing at the whole plan with his front paws, like a mouse showing off what treasures he had scavenged from the barn that day.
"Phase one is complete. Those two idiots on the ground look like they're about to fight to the death inside the Iron Curtain. It's time to move on to the next step."
"What do you need me to do next?" Kong Jiu asked.
"It's very simple, extremely simple."
Arthur seemed to enjoy repeating this phrase, tapping the planning board lightly with its front paws, making a soft tapping sound.
"Your first task is to instigate a minor conflict between the two factions, get them to fight, and shed some blood!"
Minor friction?
Kong Jiu raised an eyebrow.
He had already fulfilled this requirement after executing the wicked child.
But his expression remained unchanged; he simply asked calmly, "What should I do?"
Arthur curled his tail and deftly pulled over a small stone.
The stone was no different from the green crystals that could be seen everywhere in the cave, but Kong Jiu was still very curious about what it was.
"Here's what you do: take this dimensional stone and go to any gang or cult leader who isn't cannon fodder, show it to them, and say, 'King Squich is losing patience.'"
That's it?
Kong Jiu's gaze was filled with more confusion.
"Oh right, there's one more thing,"
Arthur added, "It has to be given to him in the Warp, you know? The Chaos Agent?"
Kong Jiu felt that something was wrong, but he still took the stone.
Arthur nodded in satisfaction, but unfortunately it had no neck.
Then, it scratched with its claws, and a dark green crack appeared out of thin air, its edges shimmering with an unstable halo.
"This warp anchor will allow you to return to the ground. But you can also remember this anchor and teleport over to chat with me sometime. We're from the other world, so we might have a lot in common."
Why is it green?
Kong Jiu walked hesitantly to the crack. The aura emanating from the oily green fissure carried a familiar yet unsettling fluctuation—it truly felt like the subspace itself.
Just as he was about to step into the tunnel, he seemed to remember something and stopped.
"King Squich, I have one more question."
Kong Jiu turned to the big rat and asked a question that had been weighing on his mind.
"If my purpose in doing all this is to save people, what about you?"
This question, though directed at Arthur, also seems to be directed at oneself.
He doesn't need a reason to save people, but don't others do too?
It's clear that this large rat, which lives deep in the sewers, is unlikely to set foot in the human world.
He's already transmigrated into a hamster, how could he possibly rebel against the heavens?
So, what was his purpose in wanting to save people?
To allow humans to live more on the ground and avoid being driven into the sewers to become rat-men, thereby relieving himself of the pressure to rule?
Arthur's dark, mouse-like eyes gleamed with a "you finally asked" smile.
It opened its mouth and asked, "Have you ever heard the saying, 'Life will always find a way'?"
Kong Jiu nodded.
No one on Amerigo Vespucci would dare say they hadn't heard this before.
Last year, a massive wildfire broke out in a continent in America.
The fire originated from an accumulation of fallen leaves caused by animal rights groups preventing locals from clearing them. Some animal rights activists claimed that "decaying leaves are rich in nutrients, which will allow life to find a way out!"
In the fire rescue operation, with no public fire brigades responding, the disaster was carried out solely by private fire brigades hired by the public at exorbitant prices. News reports stated, "When the public spontaneously engages in disaster relief, lives will find a way out!"
In the aftermath of the disaster, reconstruction efforts were hampered by inefficient rescue operations, prompting the governor to openly declare, "Rescue is not Amerigo's obligation; lives must find their own way!"
This is a phrase that any Amerigo Veteran has heard countless times.
Upon hearing this, Kong Jiu subconsciously furrowed his brow.
Seeing Kong Jiu frown, Arthur smiled, returning the smile with a fluffy hamster-like grin, his eyes narrowing into slits.
"I am the way out, the way out of chaos and survival."
"As you can see, I am a rat, hiding in the sewers, escaping human society and the protection of the rat people..."
"A hamster," Kong Jiu couldn't help but point out.
"Shut up, I am a rat! And don't you dare mention hamsters or guinea pigs, and don't interrupt me!"
Arthur raised his voice a few decibels, his beard trembling with anger, clearly displeased.
"To set the world ablaze, so that more people can live!"
"I am a rat! A rat with large horns and thirteen tails! The embodiment of survival and chaos. The weak are my subjects, and the rulers who have lost their conscience will have their territories swept away by chaos and turned into food by me!"
Arthur spoke with great force, waving his front paws, and his aged tone made it sound quite impassioned.
Unfortunately, it was just a furry hamster. Kong Jiu struggled to hold back his laughter, his lips twitching as he tried to suppress it.
"Okay, I'm leaving then."
To avoid bursting into laughter, Kong Jiu quickly turned around and plunged into the subspace rift, his figure swiftly swallowed by the green light.
As the guillotine disappeared into the green crevice and gradually closed, Arthur looked relieved, and his beard calmed down.
"The young man Neos introduced is really nice; he didn't even smile."
It wagged its thirteen tails, curled up the whiteboard, and then collapsed onto the sofa.
"Fight! Fight! ... How will you realize that bleeding your own people won't solve anything if we don't make you white bastards shed some blood?"
Arthur stared at the whiteboard covered in symbols, letting out a few low, creaking laughs that echoed through the sewers.
