American homeless people, surviving in the city
Chapter 4: Finding a Girl
He seems to have fallen very hard...
Recalling the dull thud from earlier, Lin Qi immediately understood what had happened. Clearly, this person was being chased by someone and had accidentally tripped and fallen to the ground.
The fact that he hasn't gotten up for so long might mean that he has lost consciousness.
After figuring out the situation with those footsteps, Lin Qi felt somewhat confused.
Should I help? Or should I stay out of it?
As an honest man who had lived a peaceful life at Dongda University for over twenty years, even if Lin Qi loved wilderness survival, he could only imagine what to do if he encountered wild animals.
He never imagined what he would do if, while he was a homeless person on the street, someone suddenly collapsed next to him!
Fortunately, Lin Qi had a relatively good mental fortitude, and after a brief moment of panic, he quickly calmed down.
In any case, no other footsteps were heard nearby, which means that the pursuers have not yet arrived.
As a traditional Dongda student, Lin Qi has always regarded mutual help as a traditional virtue.
Since the area seemed relatively safe, he decided to at least go over and check the situation first.
If you can lend a hand, then do so!
After confirming several times that there were no other strangers around, Lin Qi carefully stepped out from behind the bushes and went to the side of the person lying on the ground.
As soon as I walked up to the other person, a faint smell of alcohol wafted over me.
The other person wasn't very tall, and he landed face down, so there were no visible wounds from his back.
Is this some kind of drunkard? Lying here, perhaps he suffered a concussion? Or maybe he just drank too much and fell asleep?
While secretly speculating in his mind, Lin Qi squatted down and carefully moved the person over to turn him over.
But when he saw the other person's face, he was greatly surprised.
The person lying here was not the sleazy, drunken burly man Lin Qi had imagined, nor did he seem to be a dangerous individual being hunted by a gang; instead, it was a petite young girl!
Although the lighting under the overpass wasn't good, and Lin Qi couldn't see her face clearly, he could roughly make out her smooth, jet-black, ear-length short hair and her fair skin with a slight pinkish tinge.
Her body was swaying from the effort of running, her eyes were closed, and her brows were slightly furrowed.
After a brief examination, Lin Qi was able to determine that there were no external injuries on her body, so he gently patted her cheek:
"Hey, wake up! Are you okay?"
Because he couldn't see the other person's face clearly, he spoke in English.
Fortunately, upon hearing Lin Qi's call, the girl actually opened her eyes slightly.
"Great! Wake up! It looks like you were being chased. Don't stay lying here any longer...!"
Lin Qi was overjoyed. If the girl could regain her mobility and leave this place as soon as possible, he would be spared a lot of trouble.
Unexpectedly, the girl merely strained to lift her eyelids and gazed at Lin Qi's face.
Her eyes were blurry, and her speech was unclear. With her last remaining consciousness, she uttered a few words:
"Please...help me!"
Lin Qi was stunned when he heard the girl's plea for help.
He originally had only a simple act of kindness, wanting to try to help the person being chased, but he didn't intend to get too involved.
After all, in this chaotic street, it's better to avoid trouble.
But to his surprise, the petite girl who had fainted on the ground unconsciously uttered a plea for help in Chinese while she was in a daze!
Is this girl Chinese?
When he realized this, although Lin Qi still had some hesitation in his heart, his body had already acted instinctively.
Since we're all from the same hometown, what's there to say?
He switched to Chinese and quickly asked:
"Is someone pursuing you? How can I help you?"
The girl nodded laboriously, her voice growing softer and softer:
"Help me...hide..."
Before she could finish speaking, her head tilted to the side, and she fell into a deep sleep.
"hiss..."
Looking at the short-haired girl who had fallen asleep again, Lin Qi felt somewhat at a loss. But since he had already promised to help her, Lin Qi naturally had to see it through to the end.
Hiding someone was not difficult for him at this moment.
Lynch dragged the short-haired girl up from the ground and carried her into the tent he had just set up.
Simply pull the tent zipper up, and people outside won't be able to see inside.
As it turned out, Lynch's decision was extremely risky.
Just as they had hidden the girl in the tent and zipped it up, several more chaotic and heavy footsteps came from outside.
Soon, the footsteps stopped not far from the tent.
A man with a thick Indian accent spoke first, his voice filled with doubt:
"Where did that woman go?"
"Damn, he was given sleeping pills and still had the energy to run away. If I took those drugs, I don't know if I'd even fall asleep!"
Another Black man with a swearing accent, interspersed with profanities and slang, grinned lewdly.
"That woman has delicate skin and has been drugged, she couldn't have gone too far. Let's search the neighborhood thoroughly, she must be nearby!"
"Once we find her, everyone will be able to enjoy it!"
The man with the Indian accent laughed as well: "That's right. But don't forget Guo, if it weren't for him, we wouldn't have been able to trick such a naive little girl out of there."
"That's true! Hahaha..."
In addition to the two people's voices, the laughter of several other men also rang out at that moment.
Hiding in the tent, Lin Qi didn't dare to breathe loudly. His mind was racing. Although the conversation was filled with F-words and all kinds of swear words, Lin Qi could still barely understand what they were saying.
Guo? 郭?
It sounds like this girl was tricked out by a man named Guo, got drunk by this group, and then realized something was wrong at the last moment and escaped, which is why she ended up here and fell into the tent.
Having figured this out, Lin Qi's last bit of hesitation disappeared.
As long as she is neither a criminal nor a member of a gang that lost a fight, Lin Qi, being a fellow student of Dongda University, will naturally help her to the end.
Although Lynch had made up his mind, the footsteps pacing outside the tent still made him extremely nervous.
Fortunately, although the footsteps nearby then became more chaotic, suggesting that the group was searching the area,
However, since no obvious clues were left behind, they stopped again after a brief search and did not approach Lynch's tent.
Then, the male voice with the black accent spoke:
"There's no trace of her nearby; she probably ran further away."
"Let's go, let's keep chasing!"
With the Black man's statement, the others had no say, and the chaotic footsteps faded into the distance.
Lin Qi barely dared to breathe, and listened intently for several more minutes.
He only breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that the surroundings had finally returned to silence and that he could no longer hear any of those people making a sound.
Then, he lowered his head and looked at the sleeping short-haired girl.
It seemed that because she had slept for a while, the effects of the sleeping pills the girl had taken had weakened, and Lin Qi could see that her eyelids were trembling slightly, as if she was showing signs of waking up.
So he laid the girl flat in front of him and then patted her cheek again:
"Hey, wake up! Wake up!"
At Lin Qi's call, the girl's eyelids trembled more noticeably.
Finally, after several dozen seconds, she slowly opened her eyes. Her big, round, dark eyes, still dazed and confused, stared blankly at Lin Qi.
Then, a few seconds later, she seemed to suddenly realize that she was in a closed tent with a strange man. She suddenly trembled and almost screamed.
Lin Qi was also startled and quickly reassured him:
"Don't scream! Calm down! The people chasing you may be gone, but it's hard to say how far away they are now!"
"Calm down, okay? Try to remember, you were the one who asked me to help you. I hid you in the tent and helped you escape those people's pursuit..."
Under Lynch's guidance, the short-haired girl's mind seemed to gradually clear.
Although her eyes were still dazed and lifeless, she tilted her head and thought for a moment, and then she understood what Lin Qi meant.
So she obediently nodded:
"Hmm, I remember now... Thank you."
Hearing that the other party could respond logically and did not seem to blame him, Lin Qi felt more at ease.
Seeing the short-haired girl still kneeling in the tent, half-asleep and tilting her head to look at him, Lin Qi felt a little embarrassed by her gaze and quickly waved her away.
"Alright, those who were chasing you have left, but just in case they come back, you should leave here quickly."
"Besides, the smell in my tent... is really not very pleasant."
