The anti-American vanguard starts in Mexico!
Chapter 24 Fear of Insufficient Firepower
After assigning tasks to Razor and the other two, Qi Yun went downstairs.
The two bungalows to the left of the main gate were both locked, and the windows were covered by sand and dust, making it impossible to see inside.
"Hector!"
Qi Yun called out from downstairs.
A head popped out of a second-floor window: "Sheriff, I'm here!"
"What are these two rooms used for?" Qi Yun pointed to the two bungalows.
Hector glanced in the direction of his finger, then pulled his head back. A moment later, he jogged down the stairs.
"Sheriff, this is the storage room, and it's filled with some discarded tables."
"Where's the key?"
"Here it is." Hector held a bunch of keys in his hand, took one out of it, and handed it to Qi Yun.
To be fair, although this guy's character isn't great, he's definitely capable.
Having overheard Qi Yun's question upstairs, he immediately took the key down.
Qi Yun took the key, inserted it into the lock, removed the lock, and pushed open the door.
A whiff of stale dust and musty smell wafted towards me.
"Pah!" Qi Yun frowned and fanned away the dust.
As Hector had described, the room contained several desks with missing limbs, a few broken chairs in the corner, and a dusty Mexican flag hanging on the wall.
Qi Yun stood at the doorway and glanced around, then didn't go inside: "Go and call Francisco, you two clean this place up."
Upon hearing that he was to call Francisco to clean, Hector's expression immediately became somewhat subtle.
He hesitated for a moment, then tentatively said, "Sheriff, this room isn't big. I can clean it myself."
Clearly, although he swiftly sided with Qi Yun, he still harbored resentment towards the deputy sheriff and was unwilling to offend him.
This is consistent with his opportunistic and fickle nature.
Qi Yun glanced at him, said nothing, and went back to her office.
Hector stood there, watching Qi Yun's figure disappear around the corner of the stairs.
What do you mean?
Is this tacit approval? Or is it just that they're too lazy to waste words with him?
He flipped the key over in his palm, feeling a little unsure.
But one thing he knew for sure was that the sheriff wasn't the type to repeat himself twice.
"...Hold."
Hector cursed under his breath and turned to walk towards the guard post.
Upon arriving at the guard post, Francisco was leaning back in a chair, feigning death.
He didn't even lift his eyelids when he heard the noise.
Hector stood in the doorway, his Adam's apple bobbing. After much hesitation, he finally spoke with difficulty: "Sir, the sheriff wants you to come with me to clean up that storage room on the east side."
Francisco finally opened his eyes.
He didn't speak, but just stared at Hector, his face ashen and his gaze fierce.
Hector felt uneasy under his gaze and forced himself to add, "Excuse me for bothering you... the sheriff sent me to inform you..."
Francisco's face was visibly flushed red, clearly indicating that he was extremely angry.
Do they really think they're some kind of stray dog? Acting as both a gatekeeper and a cleaner?
However, in just a few seconds, he seemed to remember something, and he forcefully suppressed his anger.
He took a deep breath, stood up from his chair, glanced at Hector as if he were dead, then looked away and shoved him aside into the courtyard.
...
An hour later, Qi Yun was leisurely drinking tea in his office.
He prefers the taste of tea to coffee.
Besides that ancient country, Mexico is the world's second-largest tea consumer, and its people also have a habit of drinking tea.
However, they were drinking herbal teas made from corn silk and verbena, which tasted far inferior to Longjing or Pu'er teas.
"Knock knock knock".
Hector knocked on the half-open office door, poked half his body in, and said cautiously, "Sheriff, the storeroom is all tidied up."
"Okay, go do your work." Qi Yun waved his hand, put down his cup, and stood up.
He arrived at the door of the storage room, which had indeed been tidied up, with all the junk removed.
Qi Yun went inside and closed the door.
The next second, an M249 light machine gun appeared in the corner behind the door by the wall.
It is 1040 mm long, weighs 7.5 kg, has a 5.56 caliber, an effective range of 800 m, and a theoretical rate of fire of 750 rounds per minute.
With its tripod set up, it becomes a fixed firing point; with its stock in hand, it instantly transforms into a mobile artillery platform.
Qi Yun could already imagine how fierce Bull's physique, like a brown bear, would be when he wielded that machine gun and sprayed bullets.
The M249 cost 1500 points, and Qi Yun used the remaining 300 points to exchange for 3 boxes of bullets, thus completely spending all the points he had seized from the warehouse last night.
However, those points were definitely spent wisely.
The courtyard at Station 4 is in such a dilapidated state that half of the wall has collapsed and the gate is practically useless. If a gang were determined to storm it, a few AKs alone wouldn't be enough to hold them off.
Now that Qi Yun has this thing, he feels much more at ease.
This is probably what they call a fear of insufficient firepower...
After leaving the storage room and locking the door, Laura and the others happened to return from the branch office after completing their procedures.
Laura was the only woman among the new recruits.
She had previous experience as a clerk, and Qi Yun planned to arrange for her to be in charge of internal affairs and accounting in the future.
"Sheriff, all the paperwork is done." Laura handed over a stack of documents.
The three people behind her were carrying cardboard boxes containing the uniforms and equipment they had just received.
Qi Yun waved his hand at her: "From now on, you will be responsible for filing and classifying these materials. Also, go and see what's missing in the office and dormitory, and go and purchase it now."
As he spoke, he pulled out a wad of cash from his pocket, about two thousand dollars. "This money is a personal loan to the checkpoint. You need to keep a record of every expense."
Laura was stunned for a moment, seemingly not expecting Qi Yun to entrust her with such an important matter, and even give her two thousand US dollars at once, without fear that she would abscond with the money.
"What are you standing there for?" Qi Yun handed over the money.
"Oh, yes, sir!" Laura realized what was happening, took the money, and clutched it tightly in her hand.
It feels so good to be trusted.
Qi Yun then looked at the three people behind him and instructed them, "Change into your uniforms and go report to Bull. From now on, he will be your instructor, and you will follow his orders in all actions."
"Yes, sir!" The three men carried the cardboard box and ran towards the dormitory on the first floor.
Before long, Martinelli also brought back a construction team and began planning the overall renovation of the checkpoint.
If Qi Yun's requirements are met, and the equipment needs to withstand rocket launchers, the cost of the modifications will be substantial.
However, Qi Yun took it all in stride. His life was the most important thing, and money only had value if it was spent. Anyway, there would be plenty of opportunities to get gold coins from those gangs in the future.
Everything is going in a good direction.
...
That night, Qi Yun didn't return to the hotel. Instead, he stayed in the checkpoint dormitory with the Bulls, Martinelli, and other newcomers. The conditions were passable.
"Boss, I'm taking the rookie to stand guard." Bull changed his clothes, said goodbye to Qi Yun, and left.
At his suggestion, the checkpoint was managed entirely in a militarized manner, which would also help train the new recruits.
Qi Yun naturally had no objection to this.
The future enemy may be militants even more organized than the Mexican government forces. To wipe them out, we will definitely need to train a highly skilled team.
After washing his face, Qi Yun lay on the bed, preparing to call Razor, who hadn't returned yet, to ask about the situation there.
Before he could even pull out his phone, Razor called first.
"I followed that guy through the main street, and before I could even make a move, I saw him meet up with a group of people."
"Six vehicles in total, at least 20 people, most likely armed, heading towards the checkpoint!"
"They're most likely coming for us!"
