Chapter 17 Hermione's Protection
Time flies by.
On Halloween, bats floated in the Great Hall of Hogwarts, and the pumpkin lanterns illuminated the long table, creating a wonderful atmosphere.
Professor Quirrell stumbled in, yelling "There's a giant in the underground classroom!" and collapsed to the ground. Panic instantly spread through the crowd like a plague.
Amid screams and shoving, Lucien sat at the Ravenclaw table, still holding his silver knife.
"A rough script."
The golden threads foreshadowed the plot's direction.
As the troll staggered toward the girls' restroom,
Lucian stood up, ignoring the prefects' shouts to maintain order. With a swift movement, he used the chaos of the crowd to cast a Confusion Charm, swam upstream, and disappeared into the shadows of the side door.
……
The women's restroom is on the third floor.
Hermione Granger huddled in the shadows beneath the sink, her tears long since dried, leaving only fear.
That enormous thing was right at the entrance.
The troll's nauseating stench hit first, followed by its granite-gray skin and the enormous wooden club dragging on the ground. Its head, no bigger than a coconut shell, turned, its dull-witted little eyes searching the cramped toilet.
"roar--"
It discovered Hermione.
The giant roared and raised its wooden club, slamming it down on the row of sinks.
Hermione screamed and crawled backward, shards of porcelain flying and cutting her cheek. At that moment, her mind went blank, and all the spells she knew by heart failed her.
The shadow of death loomed over her as the foul-smelling wooden stick rose again.
A cold, calm voice, completely out of place in this bloody scene, suddenly rang out at the door.
Hermione looked up, her eyes blurry with tears.
At the entrance to the restroom, the black-haired boy who always kept to himself was standing there, holding a magic wand.
The giant stopped moving, sensing an immense threat. It turned around, its heavy wooden club whistling through the air, and swept towards Lucien's waist.
This blow was enough to shatter rocks.
"Watch out!" Hermione shouted hoarsely.
But in Lucian's view, the trolls moved slowly.
"The center of gravity is leaning forward, the right foot arch is not bearing weight evenly, and the lower body is unstable."
He took a step to the left front.
Just as the wooden stick was about to touch the hem of his clothes, he precisely cut into the giant's blind spot.
The wooden stick struck the door frame, sending pebbles flying.
Lucian merely thrust his wand forward.
The dot was placed on the outside of the giant's thick knee joint, where the Achilles' heel of this enormous body was located.
"Kneel down."
Click.
A crisp, teeth-grinding sound of bones dislocating.
The right leg, which had been supporting its weight, suddenly bent inward in a bizarre way. The giant let out a deafening roar, its massive body lost its balance, and crashed to the ground.
The floorboards groaned under the strain.
Hermione was stunned. She forgot to cry, and even forgot to breathe.
She watched as the boy stood beside the fallen monster.
Just... a poke?
At this moment, the fallen giant was not completely incapacitated. It painfully flailed its arms, and the wooden club in its hand flew out and smashed straight into the ceiling, shaking down a large cloud of dust.
Lucian looked up at the wooden stick that was still falling.
"Since you like to litter."
"Wingardium Leviosa (Lingering Spell)".
The heavy wooden stick stopped abruptly in mid-air, grabbed by an invisible giant hand, turned around, and pointed straight down.
Boom!
The wooden stick struck the troll's pitifully small head with pinpoint accuracy.
The world is quiet.
Lucian withdrew his hand, turned around, and looked at Hermione, who was huddled in the corner.
"Miss Granger,"
"Although I know you are thirsty for knowledge, contemplating life in this filthy toilet doesn't seem like a wise choice."
Hermione stared at him blankly, her heart pounding so hard it felt like it would jump out of her chest.
An unprecedented sense of awe, a mixture of gratitude and adoration, swept over her.
In her eyes, Lucien was no longer the cold, freakish man he once was. He was like the embodiment of truth, straight out of a book—powerful, precise, and elegant, crushing barbaric violence with absolute wisdom.
"How...how did you do that?" Hermione stood up, trembling, her legs still weak. "You severed its ligaments?"
"If you find the right fulcrum, a few ounces of force are enough to move tons of stupid flesh." Lucien interrupted her, his gaze sweeping over the bloodstains on her face, pausing slightly.
A gentle magic brushed across Hermione's cheek.
The stinging sensation at the wound disappeared, and the skin healed quickly.
"Let's go. The air quality here is terrible."
Just then, a series of hurried footsteps and panting sounds came from behind.
Harry and Ron, wands in hand, rushed into the bathroom, panting.
"Hermione! Don't be afraid! We're here—"
Ron's words came to an abrupt end.
They saw the giant lying on the ground foaming at the mouth, Lucian standing to the side unharmed, his hair perfectly styled, and Hermione staring at Lucian with an expression as if he were a god.
"Oh..." Ron put down his wand, looking like he'd swallowed a fly. "Looks like we missed the whole show."
He felt an inexplicable anger, as if something precious had been taken away from him.
As Harry watched this scene, that nauseating feeling returned.
While they were still basking in the glory of having mustered the courage to face the monster, Lucian had already ended everything with the ruthless efficiency of dealing with trash.
Is that power really the magic taught at Hogwarts?
Before they could speak, Professor McGonagall, Snape, and Quirrell finally arrived.
When Professor McGonagall saw the mess, she clutched her chest in surprise. Snape, on the other hand, strode forward and bent down to examine the troll.
A moment later, Snape straightened up and stared intently at Lucian.
"No signs of spell damage," Snape said softly, a hint of surprise in his voice. "Pure physical damage. A comminuted fracture of the knee, and... a precise concussion."
He approached Lucien, his black robes billowing like dark clouds: "Ashford. Explain yourself."
"Self-defense, Professor," Lucian said flatly, "and a little basic anatomy. If your always-smelling-garlic colleague had kept an eye on his pet, this floor wouldn't have had to suffer this unnecessary impact."
Quirrell suddenly shuddered, a fleeting pain flashing in his eyes.
Hermione suddenly stepped forward, blocking Lucien's path. Her voice, though still trembling, was unusually firm:
"It's my fault, Professor! I came looking for the troll... I thought I could handle it... If Lucien hadn't saved me, I would be dead!"
She lied to her teacher for the first time, in order to protect the boy.
Lucian looked at the disheveled brown head blocking his way and was surprised.
Has his defiance of fate not yet been corrected?
