Chapter 68 How Panic Spreads
As the first rays of sunlight shone upon the city-state of Mogosloar, Lord Boyd had already arrived at the Singer Arena with his entourage. The scene inside was so terrifying that the lord was somewhat agitated and was startled by a crow.
Then, the entire lord's guard was thrown into chaos. Some shouted that the enemy was attacking, some ran away, some fired their guns indiscriminately, and some risked their lives to protect the lord.
Tate was the guard who risked his life to protect the lord. He came from a poor family; his parents were herders. Herding in the desert was not easy, and the herders would often fight each other over the little resources in the oasis. So Tate developed a strong physique from a young age.
Soon after Tate came of age, he was noticed by the local lord and became a soldier. Later, he came to Mogoslor and became the lord's personal bodyguard.
For someone from the lowest rungs of society to have achieved such success is an inspirational story in the common folk. Tate himself is very satisfied with his current life and is very grateful for the city lord's appreciation of him.
To repay the city lord, Tate immediately stood in front of him upon hearing the sound of muskets, using his own body to shield him from any potential attack.
"If you want to harm the city lord, you'll have to kill me first!"
Looking at the towering Tat, Lord Boyd couldn't help but feel a sense of security.
Suddenly, Tate lost his balance and fell head over heels, accidentally pinning Lord Boyd to the ground.
Then the old city lord's head hit the ground, and he passed out.
"Lord City Lord!"*N
After a period of confusion, Lord Boyd was sent back to his mansion.
The broker received the news almost immediately.
The Robin Hood has struck again? And he's incredibly fast!
"They actually tortured the captured nobles and then mixed them into the arena. Was it to lure the city lord? No, the city lord might not even go to the arena himself. So what is his real purpose?"
Although he didn't understand the thief's purpose, the "broker" didn't hesitate and immediately set off for the city lord's mansion.
Upon arriving at the city lord's mansion, he did not immediately seek out the city lord, but instead gave a wink to several of the city lord's attendants.
Several servants nodded and then silently retreated into the corridor. The 'broker' then turned and headed towards the city lord's bedroom, where he soon met the newly awakened City Lord Boyd.
"Sir! How are you?"
The broker asked respectfully, but Lord Boyd did not answer. He just stared blankly out the window for a long time before he came back to his senses.
However, he did not answer the "broker's" question, but instead turned to look at his guards.
"Who hit me?"
The guards looked at each other, then all turned to look at Tate.
"My lord, I..."
"Are you trying to murder me?!"
"No, sir! I just wanted to protect you! I was the first one to get to your side!"
"The first one to arrive? Yes, but are you here to protect me or to harm me? Why did the Robin Hood attack me the moment I stepped out? Is there a traitor among you?!"
Clearly, Lord Boyd was being overly suspicious. Poor Tate had no idea how to explain himself and was so anxious he almost committed suicide to atone for his sins. But just then, the "broker" stepped forward and helped Tate out of the predicament.
"My lord, I have heard some of what happened on the way. In my opinion, this is probably just a scheme by a chivalrous thief. He deliberately created chaos in the arena to lure you there."
Lord Boyd glanced at the 'broker' with some surprise, then his face turned pale, and he even shrank back in fear.
"You mean! He wanted to kill me?!"
"No, sir, if I'm not mistaken, the thief is likely creating chaos to lure your guards out of the city lord's mansion, thus creating an opportunity to steal the treasure."
Lord Boyd was not stupid; he was just intimidated at first, but he quickly understood what "broker" meant.
When the attack occurred, the soldiers stationed at the city lord's mansion were indeed thrown into disarray. If someone had taken the opportunity to infiltrate the mansion and steal...
Oh no! Dragon Claw Stone!
Lord Boyd's expression changed drastically. He waved his hand, pushed aside the servants surrounding him, and hurriedly ran towards his study. The others, unaware of what was happening, followed him, but were ordered to stop near the door by the lord. Only the 'broker' and a few loyal guards accompanied the lord into the study.
As soon as he entered, Lord Boyd felt a bone-chilling cold, because the box he used to hide the mechanism had been moved, and the hidden door in the bookcase had been opened, and the contents inside were gone.
"It's over! Everything's gone!"
Lord Boyd clutched his chest in pain, then his eyes blazed with fury.
This is outrageous! I had already tried to negotiate and even took the initiative to show weakness, but the Robin Hood went too far. He disfigured more than ten nobles, attacked me, and even stole my secret treasure!
These foreign robbers are so unruly!
Lord Boyd roared in anger, ordering the army to take control of the entire city and imprison all the envoys from Balbo. He also issued a death order, demanding that his officials capture the bandits within a week or they be fired.
As for the guard who injured him, he didn't let him off the hook either, sending the unlucky fellow straight to jail.
Seeing the Lord of Boyd's anger, the "broker" felt relieved. It seemed he hadn't made a mistake in stealing what he had sent. Although the speed at which the rogue acted was somewhat beyond his expectations, for the time being, everything was still within his calculations.
Most importantly, according to his intelligence, the Desert Gods have already begun their operation and will arrive in Mogoslor in a week at most. At that time, the Rogue will surely engage in a fierce battle with the Desert Gods.
If the city lord can hold out for a week, then he can reap the benefits.
Just as the "broker" was about to leave, he suddenly noticed the guards being escorted to the prison cell not far away.
This guy, I think his name is Tate.
I bet this guy harbors a lot of resentment towards that bastard Boyd.
We could try to win them over.
Let's use the same old trick. First, let Tate suffer some torture, then have the jailer tell him that the city lord has ordered him to be killed. When Tate is almost dead from the torture, we'll secretly step in and say that we can't bear to see a warrior suffer such an injustice, so we're going to rescue Tate and prepare a new identity for him.
The broker wasn't worried about whether they could reclaim Tat. People were all buying into it, not to mention that Lord Boyd was a mean and ungrateful man, so no one would doubt whether those orders really came from him.
The "broker" has used this tactic many times before, and each time he saves innocent soldiers who have suffered undeserved misfortune. These people are capable, familiar with the army, and all harbor resentment towards Lord Boyd.
Now is the time to use them.
The broker gave a wink to the guards, who immediately understood and indicated that they would give Tate a memorable experience in the prison.
So, that's pretty much it for my plan. Now it's time for the thief to make his move.
The "broker" was somewhat looking forward to seeing how the thief would make his next move.
Just then, the broker suddenly saw several guards rushing towards the city lord's mansion. Their anxious appearance suggested that they had encountered something extremely terrible.
The broker instinctively sensed something was wrong and quickly approached them to ask what had happened.
"Brokerage! Something terrible has happened! There's been a disturbance in the West District!"
