Don't move, it's a robbery!

Chapter 48 A Familiar Way of Opening

Flogo continued recounting his experiences. Although there were many countries stationed in Asari City, it was largely under the control of the Cesar family. The soldiers who came to Linde City before were also sent by the Cesar family.

The Cesar family did not have complete control over the army, so the soldiers sent there were not all obedient to the Cesar family. In order to ensure that these soldiers could carry out the orders assigned by the family, and also to ensure the success of the plan, Frog accepted his father's arrangement and secretly came to Linde City to make private contact with the Kadir family and try to form an alliance with them.

However, as soon as he arrived in Linde City, he discovered that all the soldiers he had been sent had been wiped out, and the Kadir family had long been driven away.

This is awkward.

The Cesar family's original plan was for the soldiers to be in the open, responsible for attracting the attention of the local council while searching for the ancient scroll; while Flogo would be in the shadows, investigating the "Tribute" greatsword and forming an alliance with the Kadir family to gain their support.

As a result, although the council was drawn to the matter, their attention was not occupied by the soldiers' deaths. Instead, they were now wary of the Asari. The soldiers died mysteriously, leaving no survivors, which led to the disappearance of the Ancient Scrolls.

Not only were the Kadir family members evicted, but their original residence was also completely ransacked, leaving no useful clues behind.

The only intact city lord's mansion has been occupied by a group of strange mercenaries.

Even members of the council didn't dare to live in the city lord's mansion, yet these commoners dared to live there openly. Whatever the reason, these people must have their own unique abilities.

Flogo was somewhat wary of these mercenaries, so he planned to wait until they were alone and then grab one of them to question them.

Then he saw me.

"Great, very good. You have a good eye; you picked the best one right away."

I nodded with a hint of smugness, but Frog wasn't finished speaking.

As the second son of the Cesar family, Flogo naturally had his own guard. He did not come to Linde City alone, but brought a team of nearly 20 people, including two highly skilled knights named Andrei and Pike.

However, in order to avoid attracting attention, these people did not enter the city, but waited outside the city.

If he hasn't returned by sunset today, his guards will assume that Frog is in danger at the city lord's mansion and will choose to enter the city to rescue him.

I glanced out the window; it was already dark, and the sun had long since set.

"Hiss~ It was still light out before he started speaking, wasn't it? Are you sure this guy's been hypnotized? I have a feeling he's deliberately stalling for time?"

I picked up the stick, cursing and swearing, ready to head to the city lord's mansion to rescue people, but Tina stopped me.

"Can I come with you?"

"What?"

"When I infiltrated Asari to steal things, I was discovered by the Asari. To cover my escape from the city, several knights who were with me were killed. I remember very clearly that one of those who attacked me was named Andrei!"

Tina gripped my sleeve tightly, looking bitter and resentful; clearly, she had been holding back this anger for a long time.

She wants revenge, and I have no reason to stop her, but...

"Are you sure you can get revenge, or that you're just going to get yourself killed?"

"Don't underestimate me. I've also practiced swordsmanship. I was injured before and spent a long time on the run, so I didn't have any strength left. Actually, I'm very good."

Tina picked up Frog's rapier and then twirled it, seemingly trying to prove to me how good her swordsmanship was. But after only a couple of turns, she lost her grip and dropped the sword, almost stabbing herself in the process.

"Uh, that was a wrong demonstration. I was showing a move that shouldn't be made when practicing sword dancing."

"Fine, whatever makes you happy."

Time was of the essence, and I didn't have the energy to nag Tina any longer. Since she had the courage to seek revenge, I respected her choice.

I happen to be missing a meat shield, so if I encounter any danger, I can use her to block it.

I took Tina with me, leaving the two banshees to keep watch over the prisoners with our female neighbor. The journey to the city lord's mansion wasn't short; if I were alone, it wouldn't take long, but with Tina, it was a different story.

After running less than a third of the distance, Tina was already exhausted. Seeing her weak appearance, I couldn't help but shake my head.

"With your physical condition, how did you manage to escape from Asari City? How much leniency did those who captured you give you?"

"Nonsense...nonsense! Who runs a long distance like that...at the speed of a 100-meter sprint? I'm already doing a great job just keeping up..."

"Tsk tsk tsk, if you're bad, practice more. If you can't run, don't make excuses. I just thought you could actually help me share some of the troops, but it turns out you can't even keep up with the journey. Fine, you can run slowly here, I'm going to rescue people first."

Tina rolled her eyes at me while panting heavily. Seeing me turn and leave, she gritted her teeth and continued to follow me.

I naturally didn't have time to wait for her and headed ahead to the city lord's mansion. Unfortunately, I had only gone halfway there when I saw flames in the distance.

Well, it's too late.

I recalled Leos and Eve; their smiles were still vivid in my mind, so clear and bright. When I parted with them that afternoon, I didn't realize that this farewell would be forever, and I didn't know when I would see them again.

(¬_¬): "They're not dead yet, isn't it a bit too early for you to be mourning?"

"Oh, sorry, I'm a very emotional person."

I started my journey again, now hoping those idiots could hold on a little longer, at least until I got there.

As it turns out, Leos and his team were not complete noobs.

By the time I arrived at the city lord's mansion, the fire was under control. Although Leos and March had bloodstains on them, it wasn't their own. Zack and Reggie were a little scared, but Little One protected them immediately, and they weren't hurt.

As for Eve, she was the only victim of the attack, not because she was injured, but because the place that was burned happened to be the library.

"Damn bastards! Many of these books are unique copies! Although they may not be extremely rare, they represent the authors' hard work and dedication! And you've just destroyed them like this!"

Eve was covered in soot, probably from the fire. When she saw me coming, she didn't look relaxed at all; instead, she became even more tense.

"Something's wrong! Agua, a group of people just attacked us. They're soldiers from Asari."

"Are you alright?"

"We're fine, but these people are strange. They seem to be looking for someone, and after finding that we didn't see them, they ran into the city. I wonder what they're up to."

Hearing that Eve and the others were alright, I breathed a slight sigh of relief, but I quickly realized something and hurriedly asked them which direction they had left in.

"They fled that way."

I looked in the direction Eve was pointing and, coincidentally, it was the direction I had come from.

But I didn't encounter anyone along the way, which means these guys changed course halfway.

Without even greeting the others, I quickly checked the footprints on the ground, then turned around and chased after them. After running a short distance, I realized why they had turned around.

The city lord's mansion is located on a hillside. Some roads are too steep, and passersby usually choose to go around them. I was in a hurry and was agile, so I naturally ignored the steep slope, but the Asari people could not.

"Damn it, we missed each other because of this."

"Forget it, there are nearly 20 people. Even if we catch up, we might not get the better of you. I'll let you go this time."

I cursed under my breath and prepared to return to the city lord's mansion, but before I had taken two steps, I heard my good friend 'west Tong' remind me.

(゚ω゚): "Did you forget something?"

"What did I forget?"

(゚ω゚): "There was this silly girl just now. She was a bit slower than you, but she kept running the way you pointed out. Do you think she might have run into those soldiers?"

"..."

I feel like bringing Tina out was a mistake, but it's too late to regret it now. I can only follow the footprints and keep up.

As expected, when I caught up with the Asari soldiers, I indeed saw Tina pinned to the ground.

"So, what's so special about being a princess? How many times has this happened? How many times has she been arrested? And Tina isn't even a princess!"

Helpless, I pulled out my stick and started to rescue people, but unfortunately, all the soldiers were wearing helmets. I only managed to hit one person on the head before the others noticed.

These guys weren't the exhausted soldiers who had traveled for a day and a night like last time. When they saw someone ambushing them, they quickly formed a battle formation. Several short spearmen blocked my way, preventing me from getting close, while several crossbowmen behind them took turns firing at me, forcing me to keep dodging.

For a normal person, facing such an attack, the only option would be to retreat. But I am no ordinary person. The fire from a few crossbowmen is not enough to stop my advance.

I first dodged the first few arrows by sidestepping, and as they approached, I swung my short stick to block the remaining arrows. While drawing their attention to the short stick in my hand, I suddenly pulled out a rabbit knife with my left hand, cut the weapons in the hands of several spearmen, and kicked out, sending the soldier at the front flying.

Unfortunately, there were too many of them, and they had already formed a battle formation. Before I could continue my attack, the rest of the soldiers filled in for me.

Faced with the incoming swords and blades, I could only retreat temporarily.

By this time, the crossbowmen had recovered. They remounted their crossbows and then took turns firing. I tried to hide in the darkness, but the moon tonight was quite uncooperative, illuminating the ground with its bright light and giving me no chance to hide.

Left with no other choice, I had to evacuate first and hide in the nearby woods, where I finally got a moment's respite.

It's too much of a stretch to go head-to-head with a regular army. I need to find a way to disperse them so that I can have the opportunity to defeat them one by one.

Unfortunately, these guys seemed to have figured something out. The two leading knights exchanged a glance, then suddenly put their swords to Tina's neck and started shouting in the direction I was hiding.

"Hey you over there, I know you're here to rescue her. Get out here right now! Or we'll kill her!"
