Chapter 92 Mangdang Mountain
North Star, Deep Underground Command Base
Passing through heavily guarded passages, the Super Soldier Squad, following Lianfeng, finally stepped into this underground base, symbolizing the core of Earth's resistance forces. The sight before them left even these warriors, accustomed to the smoke of battle, as astonished as a country bumpkin visiting a grand garden.
The base's interior is extremely spacious, with a soaring dome and soft, cool lighting that illuminates the entire space as if it were daytime. Busy staff and fully armed patrolling soldiers can be seen everywhere; the entire base resembles a giant, precisely and efficiently operating machine.
Most striking were the squads of soldiers clad in uniform, dark gray armor that emanated a faint glow of energy. Their steps were synchronized, their movements swift, and the armor subtly combined ancient characters for "heaven," "earth," and "humanity" with modern energy circulation designs.
Zhao Xin's eyes widened. He nudged Ge Xiaolun beside him with his elbow and exclaimed in a low voice, "Holy crap! Xiaolun, did you see that? Those guys are wearing the new armor we'd heard about before, right? It looks pretty cool!"
Lianfeng, walking ahead, heard Zhao Xin's mutterings but didn't turn around. She calmly explained, "Yes, they're equipped with the 'Heaven, Earth, and Man' series of individual combat armor, developed and improved by us based on previously obtained data." She paused, her tone carrying a researcher's objectivity, "If resources and production lines can keep up, mass production is theoretically possible. The defensive and strength-boosting capabilities it provides are quite considerable, enough for ordinary soldiers to fight against low-level Taotie soldiers. However…"
She tilted her head slightly, glanced at the super-gene warriors behind her, and added, "The requirements for the user's physical fitness and mental compatibility are quite high, so it is not yet possible to widely deploy them."
As everyone listened to Lianfeng's introduction, they looked around curiously, passing through several busy areas, and finally arrived at a more central and heavily guarded command center.
Inside the command center, countless data streams and battlefield situation maps flowed across the massive circular screen wall. Lianfeng walked to the central control console and quickly operated it a few times. The next moment, a huge holographic projection instantly lit up in the space in front of everyone, clearly constructing a three-dimensional model of a massive space warship!
The warship had sharp lines, exuding a sense of power and industrial aesthetics. Its hull was painted with a striking five-pointed star and its name—Mangdangshan!
"This is—" Ge Xiaolun couldn't help but take a step forward, his eyes filled with shock.
Lianfeng's voice rang out clearly in the quiet command room, carrying a hint of pride and solemnity:
"The Mangdang Mountain! Our first truly functional space warship, designed and built independently with our utmost dedication! It is the core of the second link in Project Black Great Wall, and our hope for future exploration of deep space!"
Her gaze swept over the young soldiers before her, finally settling on Lena, and her tone became exceptionally serious:
"However, for the Mangdang Mountain to unleash its full combat power, especially for long-distance interstellar travel and maintaining a high-strength energy shield, it requires an extremely large amount of energy support. Currently, only Lena's Star Power Drive technology can meet its core energy needs."
When Lianfeng said that the core energy of the Mangdang Mountain needed to be powered by Lena's star energy, the eyes of the entire command center, filled with expectation, pleading, and even a hint of scrutiny, unanimously focused on this former "source of disaster" and now comrade-in-arms.
Lena could clearly feel the weight of those gazes. She had experienced being controlled, detonating the Giant Gorge, and turning against her comrades… all of which had left her bewildered and doubting herself. But now, looking at the pure trust in Lianfeng's eyes, looking at Ge Xiaolun, Liu Chuang, and Zhao Xin—comrades who had fought alongside her and suffered because of her—she took a deep breath, suppressed her complex emotions, straightened her spine, and broke the silence with a clear and firm voice:
"I'll help."
There were no further explanations, no haggling, just these five simple and straightforward words, yet they seemed to carry immense power, instantly dispelling any uncertainty that lingered in the air.
A relieved smile immediately appeared on Ge Xiaolun's face. He stepped forward and said sincerely, "Thank you, Sister Na!"
The phrase "Sister Na" seemed to pull everyone back to the time when they trained at the Super God Academy, and the camaraderie that had endured hardships but was never completely severed quietly rekindled at this moment.
Lena nodded to Ge Xiaolun, then looked at Lianfeng and asked the question that had been on her mind: "Sister Lianfeng... do you know where Yaowen is now?" Cheng Yaowen, the prince of the Deno star system, was one of the few comrades she could confide in about the past.
Lianfeng understood her feelings and replied gently, "Don't worry, Yaowen is safe now. He's with Sun Wukong and Suoton, fighting together in the Southern Theater Command to defend against the Taotie's ground forces. The fighting there is also very intense, so he won't be able to come over for a while."
Hearing that Cheng Yaowen was safe and sound and was fighting to protect the Earth, Lena finally showed a genuine sense of relief and nodded gently: "Okay, I understand."
The other members of the Super Soldier Squad—Liu Chuang, Zhao Xin, Rui Mengmeng, He Weilan, and others—all breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing the news. Although Cheng Yaowen was temporarily unable to rejoin the team, knowing that he was safe and fighting alongside them on another front was enough to put their minds at ease. The Super Soldier Squad's membership had not decreased further.
The pervasive atmosphere, tinged with a touch of sadness but mostly relief, softened the mood and fostered unity within the command center. Scattered forces were regrouping, and missing pieces of the puzzle were being put back into place. With Lena's energy support, a clear objective, and news of their lost comrades, this hard-won team seemed to have finally cleared away the last vestiges of gloom and was truly ready to face the challenges of the stars.
Lianfeng looked at the group of young people before her, their fighting spirit rekindled, a hint of satisfaction flashing in her eyes. She turned to the massive holographic projection of the Mangdang Mountain, her voice filled with power:
"So, everyone! Our next task is—to get the Mangdang Mountain set sail as soon as possible!"
