Chapter 165 Invitation
Devil One, a place forever filled with clamor, desire, and rebellious aesthetics. Morgana (Liang Bing) sits cross-legged on her iconic throne, swirling a glass of blood-red wine in her hand, listening to the reports from the demon warriors below, occasionally letting out unrestrained laughter or sharp sarcasm.
Suddenly, a perfectly stable communication interface appeared before her, without any of the Demon One alarms sounding. On the interface was Karl's perpetually calm and expressionless face.
"Bitch!" Morgana's smile vanished, and she slammed her wine glass heavily on the armrest of her throne. "What are you doing here again? I haven't settled the score with you for what happened with Lin Yu last time! Let me tell you, I'll handle Rose's affairs myself, so don't interfere!"
Karl ignored her profanity and spoke calmly, "Liang Bing, I'm not here for Du Qiangwei. I have something more important to do, concerning the future of the known universe and the true realization of 'ultimate freedom'."
"Oh?" Morgana raised an eyebrow, her expression a mixture of interest and wariness. "Tell me, what exactly is this 'ultimate freedom'? It's not just some of your mystical void theory again, is it?"
"Exactly." Karl looked directly at her. "I have mastered the method to reliably open void portals. The Void Age is about to arrive, and it will completely wash away the shackles of the existing order, rules, and even life forms. It will be a truly 'free' era without absolute authority, without eternal truth, where anything is possible. Chaos will be the breeding ground for the new order."
He extended an invitation to Morgana: "Liang Bing, you are the person in the known universe who understands the value of 'freedom' the most. You rebel against Keisha's just order and pursue the ultimate liberation of the individual. The chaos and infinite possibilities of the void are the ultimate manifestation of your ideals. Join me in welcoming it and leading it. We can jointly define the laws of the new era, making 'degeneration' and 'freedom' the keynote of the new universe."
The demons in the royal court exchanged bewildered glances. Although they didn't quite understand what "the void" was, it sounded intriguing and appealed to demons. They looked at their queen.
Morgana, holding her wine glass, fell into a brief silence. The playfulness and irritability on her face slowly faded, replaced by a rare, profound contemplation. The scene Karl had depicted truly struck a chord with her deepest longing to break free from all constraints. The unknown and chaos brought by the void seemed to be the very soil for the "absolute freedom" she had always sought—a freedom that transcended the opposition of good and evil.
however……
She remembered Keisha's last look when Emerald Star exploded (though she didn't want to admit the complexity in that look), she remembered Rose's persistent and clear eyes, she remembered Lin Yu's warning that although he was annoying, his strength was unfathomable, and even... she remembered a long time ago when she, Keisha, and He Xi studied and researched together in the Heavenly Court of Merlo, and she once harbored some naive fantasies about a bright future (this thought made her feel a chill).
Is absolute chaos truly freedom? Or is it another form of enslavement, even more irresistible? Is the void the ultimate power that will grant her her dreams, or an abyss that will devour her and everything she cherishes (such as the rose and the demon army)?
"Heh..." Morgana suddenly chuckled, breaking the silence, and downed the wine in her glass in one gulp. The scarlet liquid slid down the corner of her mouth, adding a touch of wicked charm and ruthlessness to her.
"Karl." She set down her glass, leaned forward, her eyes sharp as knives. "You know what? It's true I crave freedom and enjoy chaos. But the chaos I want is chaos I can control, enjoy, and dance in! Not some so-called 'ultimate chaos' where even I could be swept up and crushed!"
Her voice rose, carrying a resolute refusal: "Your 'Void' sounds like throwing the entire universe into a shredder nobody can understand! What kind of 'freedom' would that be? Even 'existence' itself might be redefined! I'm going to be a queen who breaks the rules, not a guinea pig to be kneaded by unknown rules!"
She stood up and pointed at Karl on the communication screen: "Go back to your Deathsong Academy and keep doing your dangerous experiments! Don't bother me! We'll fight for the 'freedom' of demons ourselves; we don't need your world-destroying theories to give it to us! Also, stay away from Rose. If anything happens to her, I'll be the first to tear down your crappy academy!"
The communications were unilaterally and abruptly cut off by Morgana.
A moment of silence fell over the royal court, followed by an even more fervent cheer and howl from the demon warriors: "Well said, Queen!" "We'll earn our own freedom!" "What's the Void anyway!"
Morgana sat back on her throne, her face regaining its usual arrogance and unruliness, but a hint of doubt and deeper wariness flickered deep in her eyes. She had rejected Karl, but she also knew that once this madman decided to do something, he probably wouldn't give up easily. The Void... it seemed to be a serious problem that couldn't be ignored.
She looked down at the clamoring demons, and then thought of Rose, who might be learning from He Xi on Earth. The vague plan in her heart about the "future" had to be accelerated again, and more risky adjustments had to be made.
Karl's visit and invitation were like two pebbles thrown into different pools. In the ruins of the Divine River, they stirred up ripples of understanding and compassionate silence; in Demon One, they stirred up sharp rejection and deeper vigilance. This scholar of illusion raced toward what he believed to be "truth," and the voices along the way, whether trying to win him over or warn him, seemed unable to alter his predetermined course. The key to the gate to the void was nearly forged in his hands, awaiting only the final moment to insert it into the lock. Meanwhile, Morgana, who refused to join him, was plotting another, perhaps even more perilous, path to survival for her "freedom" and what she cherished. The undercurrents of the universe, because of Karl's clear objective, became even more turbulent and treacherous.
