The Little Fox's Immortal Cultivation Encyclopedia
Chapter 73 Authentic
The rain was still falling outside, and the fox transformed into human form, its expression solemn.
It spread its two tails out on the table, shook them a few times to fluff up the fur, then took out a few copper coins from the side and held them in its hand. It took a deep breath and stuffed the coins into its tails.
The fox stuffed the coin into its fur and began to gather its internal energy, trying to hide the coin as if it were concealing its aura.
Why hide anything if you can't hide it? The fox said, "Let's try it."
The copper coin moved slightly, but remained unchanged.
Undeterred, the fox calmed down and tried to wrap the coin even thicker with its hidden energy. Then, it used the cool air to guide the coin, following its subconscious instincts, and pulled it in with all its might.
The copper coins have disappeared.
The fox was stunned: "Really hiding?"
The fox hurriedly used the remaining copper coins in its hand in the same way. Then it grasped its tail and stroked it from the tip to the base. The surface felt smooth, and it did not touch anything hard.
The fox was still not reassured, so it grabbed the base of each tail with both hands and began to shake it vigorously.
The fox used a lot of strength, shaking so hard that the loose fur on its tail fell off, and it was then pulled by the airflow, spinning in the air.
The copper coin still didn't fall out.
The fox watched with a smug look, then turned its gaze to the bedding.
This thing is soft and thick, and the fox has gotten used to sleeping on it these past few days. Feeling a little reluctant to part with it, the fox decided to take it back and use it as a lining in its den.
So the fox went straight over, picked up the bedding, and stuffed it directly into its tail.
The bedding remained motionless; no matter how hard the fox tried, it couldn't penetrate even an inch.
The fox was unconvinced and used all its strength to crumple the bedding until it was all wrinkled, but to no avail.
"I don't believe it!" The fox changed its position, laid its tail flat on the bed, put the blanket on top, and then pounced on it with its whole body, pressing down on it tightly.
Half an incense stick later.
The fox was completely hidden under the blankets, wrapped up tightly, with only its snout showing.
"What was the fox just doing?" The fox snuggled even closer, feeling comfortable. "Oh, the fox was packing things to take with it. Looks like the fox's cultivation is still too shallow; it needs more practice..."
The fox closed its eyes, intending to doze off for a while longer, but the rustling sound started again.
"Fox spirit, we're here again!"
The fox even tucked its nose back, hiding even deeper.
A group of mice followed the mother shrew out, and in just half a day, they widened the entrance to the burrow by an entire circle.
"Huh, where's the fox spirit? Has she already gone back to the mountain?" The mother shrew looked around in puzzlement, her gaze sweeping over the fox, but she seemed to have noticed nothing.
The mice around were also looking around and sniffing. In the past, they would scatter and flee when they smelled the fox, but now they were not flustered at all and wandered around the room.
After concealing its presence, it only needs a little illusion magic to achieve what foxes used to have to maintain illusions for a long time and expend a lot of magic power to accomplish.
The fox nodded in satisfaction, poked its head out, and suddenly asked, "Why are you here again?"
The shrew was startled, and the mice swarmed back into their burrow.
"So the fox spirit is still around." The mother shrew winked. "After thinking about it, I realized that we can help the fox spirit get revenge for the soldiers."
"How can you help?"
"We can have the younger ones dig a hole and remove all the soil under that shed, causing it to collapse."
"Or we could steal its offerings and absorb its incense, leaving it with nothing to eat!"
"..." The fox was a little confused as to whether these little mice were genuinely thinking of the fox's best interests or just trying to steal food.
The fox shook its head, shaking off its stereotype of mice, then stretched out its paws to brace itself against the edge of the bed, struggling to break free from the constraints of the bedding.
"No need, I'll go back today and let me handle it."
The shrew was about to speak when it caught sight of the fox's appearance and suddenly paused, "Hey, fox spirit, why have you changed?"
The fox looked down at itself; it had hidden itself too tightly and had reverted to its original form.
"The fox's cultivation has improved again."
The mother shrew clicked her tongue in amazement, showering her with compliments: "The fox spirit is amazing! What kind of magic is this? Is it the legendary ability to change shape at will? Fox spirit, can you grow bigger? Fox spirit, can you shrink down to be as small as us...?"
The mother shrew started chattering again, but the fox pressed its paw down on her head, silencing her.
The mother shrew wasn't annoyed. She took a few steps back to avoid the claws and said, "We have another idea. Since you've shrunk, you can go back to the mountain through the tunnel."
"A tunnel?" The fox blinked.
"Yes, yes, yes." The mother shrew nodded repeatedly. "We dug this tunnel to Qingling because we thought it would make it easier for the fox spirit to return to the mountain in the future. We specifically instructed the little ones to make the tunnel bigger, but we didn't have enough time. The tunnel was a bit narrow before, but now that you've shrunk, it's much more spacious."
The fox was somewhat tempted; by using the tunnel, it wouldn't get wet in the rain or have to wade through the mud.
"That's a good idea. The fox will go through the tunnel."
The fox was about to crawl into the hole when the mother shrew quickly stopped him, saying, "Fox fairy, please wait. We'll have the servants bring out the sedan chair."
"sedan chair?"
The mother shrew darted into the hole, and soon after, squeaking sounds came from the entrance. A group of mice emerged from the hole, all about the same size. They lined up in two rows, carrying a small sedan chair in the middle.
The sedan chair was different from the one the fox had ridden down the mountain; it looked like it was made of branches from some kind of tree. These branches were layered and woven into a base, with several branches extending from the four corners to serve as poles. It was very simple, without even a roof.
The mother shrew emerged from behind the sedan chair, beaming with pride, and said, "How about it? We wove it together with the younger ones!"
"Impressive, impressive." The fox circled the sedan chair, pressed it with its paw, and found it to be quite sturdy, with a layer of soft grass and leaves lining the inside.
"Huh." The fox also saw gray fur inside.
"Our family's fox spirit's den looks like this, so we just imitated it and set it up. The fur is from the little ones. Anyway, they can stick together to keep warm during the winter. We only plucked a few tufts from each one, so it doesn't matter."
"Amazing!"
The fox leaped into the sedan chair, curling up slightly to fill it completely.
The mother shrew waved her hand: "Lift the sedan chair, return to the mountain!"
The fox blinked: "Why does that sound so familiar?"
The group of rats straightened up in unison, gripped the sedan chair pole firmly with their two front paws, then carried it on their bodies, pushed off the ground with their backs, and took small, quick steps into the burrow.
The cave was very dark. The fox was nestled inside the sedan chair, watching the cave walls slowly move backward, its tail swaying back and forth.
