Chapter 16 Humiliation
Rosen didn't say anything, but suddenly stood up, moved along the wall to the window, and looked out through the window.
By the light of the streetlamp, he could see who it was.
There were nine people in total, and they even blocked the entrance with their car.
Rosen recognized the guy in the leather jacket as the leader; it was none other than "Mad Dog" Buck, the second-in-command of the Blind Gang.
Behind him followed eight gang gunmen armed with various firearms.
Rosen's brows were lowered, while Cade had already reached the top of the stairs, holding a modified pistol in his hand, his eyes bloodthirsty, clearly ready to rush out and wreak havoc.
But Rosen suddenly waved his hand behind him, making a "stop moving" gesture, signaling Cade to retreat.
"Hey! Rosen! I know you're in there!"
Buck swaggered into the yard and yelled into the house:
"Did you hear me? I'm talking to you! Get the hell out here!"
The room was deathly silent, and Rosen did not speak immediately.
He took a deep breath, and despite his anger, he took a video camera from the storage room, pointed it at the door, and then took a voice recorder from his pocket, turned it on, and put it in the inside pocket of his jacket.
After doing all this, Rosen took a deep breath and adjusted his facial muscles.
"Damn it, you're asking for it, aren't you?"
Buck, who was outside the door, had completely lost his patience and was about to wave someone in.
Just then, the door was pushed open, and Rosen walked out with his hands raised, looking terrified.
"No! Don't shoot! Boss Buck, it's me... I was just looking for my clothes..."
Snapped!
Before Rosen could finish speaking, Buck strode forward and slapped Rosen hard across the face.
The slap was extremely powerful, and Rosen's face was instantly turned to the side, with a trickle of blood spilling from the corner of his mouth.
The air seemed to freeze in that instant.
At that moment, Rosen's murderous intent surged to its peak. He had a hundred ways to snap Buck's neck or shoot him dead in a matter of seconds.
But he didn't move, and even to outsiders, Rosen didn't show any resentment.
His hands were still raised, and his body even staggered slightly from the force of the slap, looking so frail.
Rosen couldn't kill the other man. He knew very well that this wasn't some lawless underground organ factory, nor was it a dark corner of a slum.
This is a community, a public place.
In the distorted society of the United States, gangs not only have a strong mentality of collective revenge, but more importantly, they know how to use the law.
If he were to kill Buck now, even in self-defense, things would become extremely complicated.
Although the Blind Gang is a third-rate gang, it has more than enough resources to support a few rogue lawyers who specialize in handling shady cases.
Once the legal process begins, the gang members on the other side will coordinate their testimonies. If they are willing to spend money, the murder charge alone is enough to send him to prison and sentence him to life imprisonment by prosecutors who only target the poor.
Once you're in prison, no matter how strong you are, you're nothing more than a caged beast, at the mercy of others.
As for whether he also hired a legal team?
Don't be ridiculous, in America, justice can be bought with money.
Top-tier legal teams are money-devouring beasts, charging by the hour; they're practically competing with gangsters in terms of financial resources.
He's still burdened with a million-dollar high-interest loan; what can he possibly fight for?
endure.
We must endure it.
He can act in secret, he can fight with gangs, but he absolutely cannot try to confront the American national machine!
"I don't like waiting, kid." Buck shook his hand; the kid was pretty tough, and his hand hurt from hitting him.
"Enough with the nonsense. I heard you've struck it rich? Hand over the money, and I'll pretend this never happened."
Rosen covered his swollen cheek, his voice trembling with a sob:
"Money? Boss Buck, who told you that? I don't have any money!"
Stop pretending!
Buck grabbed Rosen by the collar and lifted him up:
"It's all over the debt collection agencies! If you didn't have money, would you dare point a gun at those vampires and tell them to get lost? What, now that it's my turn, you're the pauper?"
Rosen didn't resist; instead, he shrank back, a bitter smile more painful than a grimace appearing on his face.
"Boss Buck, you've misunderstood, it's really a misunderstanding! I... I had no other choice!"
I was penniless, how could I possibly afford a million? They were pressuring me so much that they threatened to kill me if I didn't pay.
I was afraid they would really make a move, so... I had no choice but to put on a brave face and pretend I had money to lure them away first.
As Rosen spoke, his eyes were sincere: "I really don't have a single penny left. If you don't believe me, you can search for me!"
"This place is so small, and your brothers just ransacked it. If they had money, they would have dug it up by now!"
Buck stared suspiciously into Rosen's eyes, trying to find a trace of lying, but he couldn't see anything wrong.
Buck released his grip and gave Rosen a disdainful shove, causing Rosen to stumble.
Then he turned and looked at the messy house again. Indeed, just as Rosen said, if there really was cash hidden there, the commotion earlier would have given it away long ago.
Is it really fake news?
"Damn it, what a piece of trash!"
Buck felt he had been tricked, not only by Rosen, but also by the person who delivered the message.
They went to all that trouble, only to run into a penniless nobody.
"Pah!" Buck spat a wad of phlegm at Rosen's feet, his eyes full of contempt. "If you don't have money, why are you pretending to be a big shot? You made me happy for nothing."
Rosen kept his head down, still smiling obsequiously, not daring to utter a single word of rebuttal.
Looking at Rosen's pathetic state, Buck's anger subsided by half, but he looked down on this Chinese man even more.
He stretched out his fat hand and lightly patted Rosen's face twice, threateningly saying:
"Kid, if you don't have money, then you'd better behave yourself. And another thing, I'm warning you—"
Buck's voice suddenly lowered, carrying a chilling undertone:
"If I find out you secretly paid off the loan... then don't blame me for being ruthless."
Snapped!
After saying that, Buck slapped Rosen hard across the other side of his face.
Rosen staggered again, not daring to speak; the slap was purely out of anger.
"Let's go!"
Buck gave Rosen one last glare, then turned and got into the car.
With a roar, the three dilapidated cars sped away.
Rosen stood at the broken gate, his face red and swollen, bowing slightly, forcing a fawning smile as he waved goodbye to the departing taillights.
"Take care... Boss Buck..."
