Marvel: I am Iron Man
Chapter 25 Planning a Murder
With Tony's order, Jarvis quickly brought a series of photos and files to Tony's view.
"let me see......"
Tony quickly glanced at the compiled files.
First, there was Congressman Stern, who, in the movie "Iron Man 2," represented the government in pressuring Tony to hand over the Iron Man armor—of course, with the timeline changed, the current Tony doesn't publicly reveal Iron Man to the world, so this conflict naturally disappeared.
However, as seen in later MCU storylines, this Senator Sent is actually a member of Hydra's management.
It has to be said that Hydra's infiltration efforts after World War II were truly impressive. They not only infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. like a sieve, but they even managed to infiltrate members of Congress.
Tony once suspected that if Hydra hadn't been exposed in Captain America 2, wouldn't they have been able to become president in another two years at this pace?
Given time, presidents, secretaries of state, members of Congress, generals, and all other officials in the political and military circles will become Hydra. At that time, will Hydra still be considered a terrorist organization?
Wouldn't the US then be transformed into a nation ruled by Hydra...?
Hmm... thinking about it this way, it seems like it might not be that different from now.
The files Tony had Jarvis access were all of people whose true identities, based on his memories from his past life, he roughly remembered, were Hydra executives or agents. He instructed Jarvis to first collect and archive all the publicly available files and records of these individuals.
For example, one of the contributors to Captain America's iconic elevator battle scene is Brock Rumlow, codenamed "Crossbones," an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
And the bald, bespectacled agent Sitwell, who has a small role but striking good looks.
Finally, and most importantly, is Nick Fury's former boss and the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Alexander Pierce.
Although some of his Marvel memories have become hazy after time-traveling, he will never forget Tony. After all, it's truly one of a kind that an undercover agent can go to such lengths.
People laugh at the neighboring distillery for its extreme resilience to alcohol, but even if there's a lot of fake alcohol in that distillery, at least the boss isn't a fake.
In comparison, S.H.I.E.L.D. is incredibly powerful; even their former director was a mole.
It's truly remarkable that Fury was able to handle such a mess.
However, upon seeing this, a bold idea suddenly popped into Tony's mind.
Tony suspected that Hydra was targeting him, which was why he needed to take the initiative, but it would undoubtedly be difficult for him to fight Hydra on his own.
No matter how advanced his skills or how strong he was, he was still all alone. Fighting Hydra alone would be time-consuming, laborious, and risky, and completely eradicating this organization, which had already infiltrated every aspect of the world, would be extremely difficult.
So here's the question: why do you have to do it yourself?
If there were an organization that could rival Hydra, and a leader with sufficient resources and means, letting those guys fight Hydra while I didn't even have to get involved, wouldn't that resolve the conflict and avoid drawing unnecessary fire to myself?
After all, as our ancestors said, "Use someone else's knife to kill someone."
Tony suddenly remembered a saying by a great man: "All difficult roads are paved by the brave with their firm feet." He thought about it and suddenly realized that Nick Fury was indeed very brave, a pioneer suited to break through thorns and forge a new path.
"Nick Fury," Tony thought, pacing around the lab. "That's it, Nick Fury. We need Nick Fury to be at the forefront, the vanguard, fighting Hydra to the bitter end. Why should I be the first to wade into these troubled waters?"
Jarvis said, "That sounds like a good idea, sir."
Tony continued to ponder: "But right now, Nick Fury doesn't know that Hydra is all around him... or maybe he's a little aware, but it's far from the time to take action. Perhaps we can give him a push, we can make him realize it ahead of time..."
Jarvis suggested, "Perhaps we could send an anonymous whistleblower letter, sir."
"No, that won't do. Nick Fury is naturally suspicious. If we tell him directly, he'll definitely become suspicious and he'll insist on digging deep to find out who sent the letter."
Tony sat down on the sofa, his fingers interlaced in front of him.
"Yes, Nick Fury is very suspicious. And I don't want to get involved in their internal affairs."
Activating S.H.I.E.L.D. against Hydra is one thing, but personally getting involved is quite another. Tony doesn't want to get involved, and in his view, S.H.I.E.L.D. is fine as a weapon, but far too unreliable as a teammate.
On the surface, S.H.I.E.L.D. is waving the banner of global security, but in reality, it has long become a franchise of Hydra.
Moreover, this group of people spent trillions to build a floating aircraft carrier, and in the end, all they did was put on a show for all the employees: "using their own trillion-dollar aircraft carrier to blow up their own trillion-dollar headquarters building."
So perhaps the happiest people in the movie when Captain America forcefully demanded the disbandment of S.H.I.E.L.D. were those in charge of finances. After all, if S.H.I.E.L.D. continued down this path of extravagance, the finance department would probably go crazy.
Tony spoke while thinking, his voice gradually fading as he frowned and pondered for a while, when suddenly his eyes lit up.
"Wait a minute, Lao Jia, I think I actually have an idea. It's a bit bold, but if it goes smoothly... no, I think it's feasible."
Tony stood up again and paced back and forth in the lab, as if mentally simulating the feasibility of the plan.
Jarvis: "I'm all ears, sir."
"Very good, Jarvis." Tony seemed to snap out of his thoughts. "I think... maybe I should plan a murder."
Jarvis: "?"
...
...
Two days later.
Iron-willed, fickle, bald agent Sitwell finished a long day's work and dragged his tired body back to his residence.
As a secret agent, Baldy's job is not easy. He is often so busy that he is constantly on the go, and working overtime until midnight is the norm.
After all, most people only do one job, but he has to work two.
Moreover, Hydra always talks about "loyalty and faith" and how they dedicate themselves to the cause of world unification. However, they don't pay any wages.
This resulted in Baldy having to do the work of two people for Hydra, yet his only salary came from S.H.I.E.L.D., making him a complete workhorse.
Moreover, the higher-ups had a perfectly reasonable argument, saying that unusual financial activity could easily attract unnecessary attention and be detrimental to espionage. Besides, our organization aims to rule the world; talking about money is so vulgar!
The organization has promised to give you a city to play in once the world is unified. What more could you want?
In fact, this set of beliefs works quite well for many Hydra members; there are quite a few people in the organization who are driven by love.
Sitwell returned to his apartment, closed the door, and pressed the light switch by the door. The switch clicked, but the light didn't turn on.
Sitwell paused for a moment, then peered into the living room. He was startled when he saw the figure in the living room.
"It's you!?"
