Marvel: I am Iron Man

Chapter 21 I could play all day long

The moment they noticed the robot's appearance, the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents immediately turned their guns on it and opened fire.

But it was no use. Their weapons clearly couldn't damage the thing; the dense bullets only crackled and sparked on the robot's shell, and the deformed bullets clattered and fell around the robot's feet without causing any damage.

The robotic warrior, however, raised its arm, and the machine gun barrel hanging on one side of its arm spun rapidly. A continuous hail of bullets poured down like a tidal wave.

The SHIELD agents were all highly experienced, and they immediately leaped and dove, each finding cover and hiding inside the control room.

One of them was a little slow, and it seemed he was about to be hit by the robot's incoming fire before he could rush into cover. But the disc-shaped flying shield arrived just in time, hitting the robot's hand, which was holding a machine gun, with a loud thud.

The shield strike was powerful and heavy; even the mech was knocked off balance and lost its aim. Only then was the team member able to escape into cover.

Captain America strode forward, his shield slid out of his hand and struck the robot's hand. The recoil caused it to bounce back, flying precisely back into Captain America's hand as if guided by an autopilot.

Captain America used the momentum to leap off the ground, performing a 360-degree spin in mid-air, and slammed his shield into the robot's head with the force of the rotation. Sparks flew from the metal skull, and the robot was forced back half a step by the impact.

The agents who had retreated were shocked to see Captain America engage in hand-to-hand combat with the mech with his bare hands. While they were amazed by the captain's incredible physical abilities as a super soldier, they couldn't help but feel worried.

Unfortunately, their weapons were no match for the mech, and with the captain engaged in close combat with the enemy, he was worried about accidentally injuring his teammates if he fired. He grew increasingly anxious but helpless.

Captain America executed a beautiful spin and headshot, but his movements faltered briefly upon landing. His opponent, though forced back, was a machine devoid of pain; regaining his balance, he swung his arm in retaliation, the steel arm slamming into Captain America's helmet.

Despite the helmet's protection, the opponent's powered arm still struck Captain America, causing him to see stars, cough up blood, and nearly lose his balance.

But he took a step forward and forced himself to stay steady.

He cannot fall.

He is the captain, the pillar of everyone's spirit.

The spirit cannot be defeated.

The machine warrior raised its arm to lock on, and Captain America, anticipating the attack, ducked to avoid the machine gun fire, then skillfully maneuvered around its back and swung his shield to seize the enemy's throat.

He held the shield in both hands, with the shield in front of the robot's throat, while his body hung on the robot's back. Using the shield to lock the robot's throat, he desperately grabbed the robot's slender neck from behind.

Immediately, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent warned, "Captain, it's a robot; it doesn't breathe! A chokehold won't work on it..."

But before he could finish speaking, Steve let out a clear "Hah!" followed by a crisp "Crack!"

Immediately, everyone present stared in disbelief as Captain America forcefully severed the robot's steel neck, its metal head exploding with sparks as it spun several times in the air before rolling to the ground.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. agents all gaped in astonishment.

This...this works?

If some people previously thought Captain America was just an outdated relic, obsolete by the ever-evolving modern technology, then at least the team members present now admire him immensely.

Severing a mech's neck with bare hands... well, maybe even with a vibranium shield, it wouldn't be entirely considered bare-handed. But even so, the scene was impactful enough for them.

What terrifying strength!

Captain America stood up, shield in hand, took a breath, and wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.

After being bombarded by rockets and having his head blown off by the mech's arm, even Captain America felt unsteady on his feet.

But at least he won, the mission should be accomplished...

boom--

The sudden explosion blew open the wall of the room facing the corridor. The shockwave blew everyone away again, catching them completely off guard.

Steve happened to be standing right next to the wall where the explosion occurred, taking the brunt of the attack. He was thrown almost across the entire room, crashing into the massive hanging monitor in the control room.

The screen shattered behind him with a crisp crack, the image vanished, and shards of glass fell with him. As he landed, he felt as if every bone in his body was groaning in agony.

When he opened his eyes again, he saw this despairing scene.

The robot warriors are just like the one we just defeated, only in much larger numbers.

There looked like there were more than ten, maybe twenty... He wasn't sure.

A large number of mechs were outside the wall that had been blasted open, eyeing the team menacingly.

Steve took a deep breath.

This was the most dire situation he had ever faced in his life. Even during wartime, he had never faced anything like it—but then again, such advanced technology simply wouldn't have been available in his time.

Steve had to admit that he missed the days when he was the most technologically advanced creation on Earth.

Reason told him he couldn't win.

But even so...

Steve clenched his fists and propped himself up once more.

He removed his helmet, letting it fall to the ground and roll aside. Holding his shield, he faced the enemy force he knew he couldn't defeat, yet showed no fear.

"I can fight all day long," he said clearly, lifting his shield.

Incredibly, as if by some invisible magic, when he stepped forward, when that figure stood before everyone, the fear in the hearts of the other team members miraculously dissipated somewhat.

It's as if he were a lighthouse at sea, a flag on the battlefield.

As long as their flag stands, they have nothing to fear.

The remaining agents stood up, raised their guns, and faced death without fear.

Perhaps the odds of winning are indeed zero, and perhaps none of them will survive to see today.

But at least they will fight to the death.

All the combat robots locked onto their targets. They raised their arms in unison, the black cannon barrels like the Grim Reaper about to deliver a cold verdict.

"Intruder detected... Eliminate..."

boom!

Another explosion.

It came as suddenly as ever, but this time from above. The laboratory ceiling was blown open by the explosion, and everyone instinctively raised their arms to protect their faces, their eyes stinging from the sudden influx of sunlight.

This time, what descended from the hole in the ceiling was a suit of red and gold armor.

Like a god descending, sunlight poured down like molten gold foil, and the mechanical steel body hovered in a vortex of dust and beams of light, its armor emitting arcs of light like the descent of a saint.

Steve Rogers looked up and stared in disbelief at the figure descending in a blaze of light, accompanied by a metallic roar.
