Marvel: I am Iron Man
Chapter 2 Tony's Small Goal
boom!
The shockwave from the explosion spread across the deserted wasteland. The silver Iron Man armor stood at the edge of the charred, smoking crater, his palm-mounted arc pulse cannon aimed at the crater, now completely burned away.
Jarvis's voice came through the helmet: "Sir, the detectors showed Obadiah Stane was completely dead after the first pulse cannon shot. Was this really necessary?"
Iron Man's AI butler seemed puzzled by his master's behavior of finishing off corpses, leaving no trace of his ashes.
Tony lowered his arm and said, "Have you heard the old saying, Jarvis? You can never be too cautious."
Jarvis: "I'll keep that in mind, sir."
Tony didn't have any strange fetish for desecrating corpses. It's just that he knew deep down that in this godforsaken place called Marvel, he couldn't let his guard down just because a villain had just breathed his last.
First, he might have faked his death. Even if it looks like his heart was pierced, we should never be careless. In the Marvel universe, there are ways for someone to survive even without a heart.
Secondly, even if someone truly dies, the possibility of resurrection cannot be ruled out. Destroying the body and scattering the ashes greatly reduces the chance of resurrection. In fact, if cremation were implemented in Marvel comics, many dead villains and even superheroes might lose the chance to rise from the dead.
Yes, his name is still Tony Stark, but it's not the original one. He's a time traveler.
In my previous life, I was an ambitious young man in China who read a lot of online novels and anime. Although I had fantasized about time travel, it was still quite a pain when it actually happened to me.
Imagine being reborn as Tony Stark, the famous Iron Man, and suddenly having endless money, luxury cars, beautiful women, and everything you could want. It sounds pretty wonderful.
Okay, this part is nice, but it would be even better if it weren't for that deadly little shrapnel that's constantly trying to crawl into my heart.
Inheriting Iron Man's identity naturally also means inheriting the shrapnel in his heart; even if it only leaves the reactor in his chest for a short while, he'll be doomed.
Moreover, the identity of Iron Man is also a heavy burden.
There's a saying that if the sky falls, there are tall people to hold it up. However, the current situation is that he has just happened to transmigrate into the body of this "tall person".
Marvel's various derivative comics and animations have repeatedly explored the possibility of parallel worlds "what if there were no Iron Man".
As it turns out, in a place as treacherous as Marvel Earth, without Iron Man as its leader, the world might have been ruled by some supervillain, perhaps even destroyed by nuclear weapons, or perhaps enslaved by aliens...
In short, the results don't look very good.
So this is a problem that Tony is currently facing. If he doesn't perform as well as the original Iron Man, even with just the slightest mistake, he might perish along with the world.
What's even more frustrating is that simply making it as good as the original probably isn't enough. As everyone knows, Iron Man heroically sacrificed himself in the final battle against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, snapping his fingers to bring Marvel's decade-long glory to an end and also ending his legendary life.
Furthermore, Doctor Strange, who has experienced 14000506 timelines, called that snap "the only possibility." In other words, if we consider fate, Tony was probably destined to sacrifice himself in that battle.
However, Tony was completely unprepared to sacrifice himself for this world he knew nothing about.
Of course, he didn't intend to simply give up and wait for Thanos to arrive so that everyone would perish together.
So after accepting his current situation and the facts of his time travel, Tony set himself a small goal.
ten years.
Ten years later, in the final battle, he not only has to defeat Thanos, but also achieve a perfect ending that even the original Iron Man couldn't achieve.
He must survive the final battle!
This is certainly not a simple matter. However, if we follow the movie's plot and the storyline unfolds as expected, Thanos's arrival on Earth is still ten years away. He has ten years to prepare for this.
He had made up his mind to make thorough preparations over the next ten years. When Thanos came to Earth, he would provide him with all sorts of useful tools, advanced technology, magic, and overpowered superhumans.
From landing to coffin, the entire process is designed to give Thanos, a newcomer to Earth, the most welcoming treatment.
Of course, this is something even the original couldn't do, so Tony certainly wouldn't be so arrogant as to think he's better than the original Iron Man, and he hasn't yet discovered any cheat codes or systems he can rely on.
Fortunately, he inherited most of Tony Stark's original memories. This, of course, meant he also gained access to all of Tony's brilliant ideas and cutting-edge technologies that were fifty or even a hundred years ahead of the rest of the world.
In addition, he also possesses memories of his past life as a veteran Marvel fan.
Tony Stark's knowledge, combined with his memory of the film and his understanding of the plot, was his only reliance for surpassing the original and surviving Endgame through a decade-long plan.
"So, perhaps tonight's activities are over, sir?" Jarvis asked.
"Almost there, the last stop," Tony said. "Plan the flight route to Obadiah's villa for me... Oh, and I remember we found out he also has a private secret lab, mark that down too, we can check it out on the way."
Jarvis: "Cut the weeds out completely? Sir?"
After this period of adjustment, Jarvis has begun to get used to his owner's new way of doing things.
In short, it's about stability.
Tony's motto is either don't do it, or do it thoroughly. Now that he's taken down Obadiah, he wants to do it cleanly.
Destroying the body and covering up the evidence is only the first part. Next, there's Obadiah's residence and laboratory, Obadiah's accomplice who attempted to murder Tony, the technology Obadiah stole, and so on—everything must be destroyed.
Although the other man was dead, Tony didn't want some random kid to pop up out of nowhere in a few days, somehow get hold of Obadiah's technology and assets, and become a supervillain like the Iron Monger 2.0 to seek revenge on him.
Silver armor shot into the sky, crushing rocks into tornadoes of dust under the propulsion flames, and the afterimages of steel pierced the clouds like meteors.
"Speaking of Jarvis, Obadiah just said he's not the only one who wants to kill me. It sounds like there's someone else who wants me dead."
Tony asked during the flight.
"Do you have any clue who those people might be, Lao Jia?"
"If you ask me, sir?" Jarvis said, "if you want a list of everyone in the world who might be interested in your life, then, in my humble opinion... the list could be very long."
Tony sighed, "You're right."
The armored vehicle, trailing a fiery tail, disappeared among the stars in the night sky.
