When they walked downstairs with Toda, a liaison officer came up and asked Kamiya Gen's other family members what to do with them.

"Let's wait a bit."

Kamiya Gen scanned the area and saw Keiko Ueda... perhaps this person's name wasn't even that. She was slumped in the back seat of the police car, and her tear-streaked face could be seen through the glass.

Akihiro Sakaguchi and Kyoko Morishita were also escorted to two police cars next to them. The former looked ashen-faced and frowned when he saw Toshiaki Toda being escorted out.

Suddenly, the sound of brakes broke the silence of the factory area, and a white van with a forensic investigation mark came to a steady stop at the factory gate.

The rear door opened first, and several forensic doctors in white coats, carrying investigation kits, quickly stepped out. The senior forensic doctor in the lead saw Kamiya Gen from afar and immediately raised his hand to greet him.

"Inspector Kamiya, we've been notified and are on our way. Where is the scene of the death?"

Just as Kamiya Gen was about to respond, his gaze suddenly stopped on the person who had just gotten out of the car from the passenger seat.

The other person was wearing a crisp navy blue police uniform, and his short, jet-black hair was neatly tied back. It was Mu Heyou.

She stopped in front of Kamiya Gen, her gaze first sweeping over the ashen-faced Toda Toshiaki behind him, then returning to his face, her tone revealing neither joy nor anger: "I heard from Inspector Takeuchi that you were here, so I thought I'd come and see for myself."

Kamiya Gen didn't respond to her, but instead addressed the forensic pathologist:

"The deceased's identity is unknown. The deceased reported by the factory is a ghost employee fabricated by the personnel manager, Toshiaki Toda, to fraudulently collect wages. The factory manager, Akihiro Sakaguchi, should have a problem with the deceased's identity, but he insisted on paying money to keep quiet and even tried to bribe me. It is highly likely that there is a deeper secret involved."

He raised his hand and nudged Toda Toshiaki beside him. "The man has confessed and admitted to conspiring to impersonate a family member to extort money. Now we're just waiting for the forensic doctor to come in and perform an autopsy to confirm the deceased's true identity and the specific cause of death."

Toda Toshiaki hurriedly said, "Officer! I confess! I'll tell you everything! I'll tell you everything! Please be lenient with me!"

Mu Heyou's gaze swept coldly over him, but she didn't reply. Instead, she turned to the forensic doctor behind her and nodded: "Thank you all for going in to investigate. The scene is at the innermost part of the workshop, and a cordon has been set up. Our people will cooperate with you."

The forensic experts immediately responded and headed towards the production workshop with their investigation kits.

After putting Toda Toshiaki into the police car, Kiha Yu approached Kamiya Gen and said, "So that's why you didn't go back to the hotel. You've come here to solve a big case."

"Whoever initiates a conversation is a loser."

Kamiya Gen suddenly said something inexplicable, leaving Mokuha Yu speechless.

"You...you shouldn't be so arrogant. I should have ignored you since you were the one who contacted me," Mu Heyou said softly after thinking for a moment.

Kamiya Gen smiled slightly and said, "Did I look for you? Didn't you come all this way to me?"

"I heard from the report that you were going to arrest someone and take them to the police station for trial. But this case is just a civil dispute. I felt that you might be abusing your power, so I came to supervise you."

Even Yuzuki herself didn't believe what she was saying. She felt there was something wrong as soon as she learned about the case. After arriving at the scene and hearing Gen Kamiya's so-called "ghost employee theory," she realized that her guess on the way there must have been correct.

At that moment, a commotion came from inside the police car. The two men went over and found that it was the factory manager, Akihiro Sakaguchi, causing a disturbance.

"What right do you have to arrest me! What law have I broken?! I run a legitimate factory, and it's my duty to compensate the deceased's family. Is this how your police station operates?! I want to find my lawyer! Right now!"

Upon seeing the two arrive, Akihiro Sakaguchi became even more excited and pounded on the car window.

Mu Heyou frowned and said coldly, "Open the car door."

The patrol officer responded immediately and opened the police car door with a click.

Just as Akihiro Sakaguchi was about to continue shouting, Yuzuki spoke up:

"Akihiro Sakaguchi, you are suspected of harboring criminals, fabricating evidence, and bribing state officials. We have summoned and detained you in accordance with the law. If you have any questions, we will discuss them at the police station."

Mu Heyou's voice was full of pressure, "You want to find a lawyer? Fine, you'll have a chance to contact him when you get to the police station. But for now, you'd better behave yourself."

"What did I cover up? What bribery did I offer?"

Sakaguchi Akihiro stubbornly refused to back down, saying, "I just want to resolve this quickly and get the factory back to production. What did I do wrong? What does Toda Toshiaki's fraud have to do with me? I'm a victim too!"

Kamiya Gen took a step forward and said, "Ueda Kazuki's identity is a ghost employee fabricated by Toda Toshiaki. For a whole year, he has been collecting wages from your factory every month. His attendance and onboarding procedures are all forged. You should know this."

Upon hearing this, Sakaguchi Akihiro's face paled slightly, and his lips moved, but he didn't utter a single word of explanation.

Muheyou immediately followed up, her tone even more somber: "You knew perfectly well that the deceased wasn't Ueda Kazuki, that this identity was fake, yet not only did you not report it to the police to verify the deceased's identity, you urged Toda Toshiaki to quickly settle the matter privately with the family, even offering 30 million yen to keep quiet. Just now you even tried to bribe the police. What exactly are you covering up? Who exactly died in your workshop?"

The two of them, working in unison, piled all the doubts onto Akihiro Sakaguchi's face.

His face went from flushed to deathly pale, and he didn't utter another sound.

"Speak," Muheyou urged coldly.

But Sakaguchi Akihiro seemed to suddenly fall silent. No matter what the two asked, he just kept his mouth shut and refused to say another word.

After a long while, he finally raised his head, his eyes no longer filled with panic, and said in a muffled voice:

"I have nothing to say. We'll discuss everything when my lawyer arrives. I won't answer any questions until he does."

After saying that, he lowered his head again and refused to speak again no matter how much the two pressed him for an answer.

……

"What do you think, Kamiya-kun? Should we take him back to the police station for further questioning?"

A few minutes later, looking at the Koban members who were ready to leave, Muheyu asked Kamiya Gen.

Upon hearing her address him change from "Inspector Kamiya" to "Kamiya-kun," the latter thought for a moment and then asked:

"Should we go check it out in person?"

"Is there anything else we haven't found out yet?" Muheyou asked.

Kamiya Gen nodded: "I'm not capable enough, let's go take a look together. You are a police inspector, after all, it wouldn't be right for you to arrive and not go to the scene of the death, would it?"

"Alright, let's go then."

The two walked side by side through the empty production workshop. The deeper they went, the stronger the sweet and pungent smell of blood became, amidst the pungent smell of machine oil and oxidized steel in the air.

The patrol officer guarding the workshop entrance saw the two approaching and quickly came forward, bowing and saying, "Are you two going in? But the forensic doctor has already gone in; the scene was rather gruesome... Inspector Muhe, why don't you just wait outside?"

As he spoke, he winked at Kamiya Gen, suggesting that he shouldn't have brought Mukayu here.

Kamiya Gen ignored this, as he wanted to see if Kiha Yuzu would be intimidated by the scene.

Besides... since we can't get anything out of the factory manager in the short term, we really need to come to the site again.

"Need not."

Muheyou responded lightly, and without pausing for a moment, walked straight towards the innermost cordon of the workshop.

Kamiya Gen raised an eyebrow, followed behind her, and reached out to pull open the yellow and black police tape.

As soon as I stepped inside, I heard suppressed retching sounds coming from a corner.

A young forensic doctor squatted on the ground, his face ashen, his white coat stained with dirt. His colleague patted his back, his face also showing undisguised discomfort.

The senior forensic pathologist, standing in front of the milling machine, frowned deeply, holding an investigation lamp. Seeing the two enter, he shook his head with a wry smile: "Inspector Kamiya, Inspector Kihara, you're here. This crime scene…"

"Haven't you collected any DNA yet? Why don't you give me the tools?"

Muheyou glanced around the room and began to speak.

Kamiya Gen thought that in such a scene, even if Kiha Yuzu didn't lose her composure, she would at least show discomfort.

But seeing the other party's attitude, it seemed that it had no effect at all, and he was a little disappointed.

"Inspector Muhe, the scene is too chaotic and horrific. We can't let you handle it. We'll take care of it. It's just that the wreckage is too badly broken, making it difficult to find usable samples. It's also mixed with engine oil and iron filings, which might contaminate the samples," a forensic doctor said.

Mu Heyou didn't reply, but simply reached into the investigation kit beside her and took out a disposable protective suit, latex gloves, and goggles, putting them on neatly. She then took the tweezers and sterile evidence bag from the senior forensic doctor, her tone remaining calm, yet carrying an undeniable sense of professionalism:

"It's alright, I'll take care of it. You guys just need to record the details. The deceased was shredded like this, so it's easy for impurities from the machine tool to get mixed in during routine sampling. I'll take samples from specific points to ensure the cleanliness of the sample to the greatest extent possible."

After saying that, she leaned closer to the milling machine, and precisely shone the surveying light in her hand on the meshing gap of the gears.

Under the light, the tiny fragments of human tissue embedded in the metal teeth were particularly glaring. The young forensic doctor next to him glanced at them and then looked away, his stomach churning again.

Muheyou's hands were very steady. The tweezers precisely probed into the narrow gap, carefully picked out the tissue fragment, and placed it steadily into the sterile evidence bag. She sealed it, labeled it, and completed the action in one smooth motion.

She moved along the machine tool step by step, from the bloodstains scraped along the edge of the workbench, to the bloodstains splattered on the ceiling, to the bone fragments mixed with machine oil in the gaps of the anti-slip plate on the floor. She selected each sampling point with absolute precision, simultaneously reporting the location and characteristics to the forensic doctor who was recording the data.

"Bloodstains suspected of being from a secondary transfer, numbered 1, on the northwest edge of the control panel; human soft tissue, numbered 2, inside the driven gear at the bottom of the milling machine; bone fragment, numbered 3, inside the third gap of the anti-slip plate on the ground..."

Kamiya Gen leaned against the cordon, arms crossed, watching her movements. His slight disappointment at wanting to see her embarrass herself had turned into a genuine surprise.

He had seen many crime scenes and dealt with many experienced criminal police officers.

But very few people can maintain absolute calm and precision in such a harsh environment, like Muheyou.

A few minutes later, Muheyou straightened up, handed the last sealed bag of evidence to the forensic doctor next to her, took off her gloves which were stained with a few drops of blood, and threw them into a special waste bag.

The veteran forensic doctor looked at the neatly arranged bags of evidence, his face full of undisguised admiration, and told the young forensic doctor beside him to learn from him.

Muheyou removed her goggles, turned to look at Kamiya Gen, who was watching her with amusement, raised an eyebrow slightly, and spoke with a hint of barely perceptible teasing:

"What? Disappointed?"

Having his little scheme exposed, Kamiya Gen wasn't embarrassed. He smiled and stepped forward.

"It's quite a surprise. I didn't expect Inspector Muhe to be so skilled at evidence collection."

Muheyou didn't respond to that, wiped her hands, and looked back at the milling machine: "When a live body is caught in a machine tool, the tissue splattering follows a fixed pattern, but the bloodstains and tissue distribution here are completely chaotic, and there are multiple traces of secondary transfer, indicating that the deceased was put into the machine tool to destroy evidence after death."

She paused, then called out to the patrolmen at the door, "Take the prisoners back to the police station and detain them separately."

"Yes! Muhe Police Department!"

The patrolman immediately stood at attention, saluted, and quickly ran out to make arrangements.

Looking at her decisive manner, Kamiya Gen raised an eyebrow: "Are you planning to take over the case directly?"

"Didn't you say you weren't capable enough? Of course I'll take over, so what?"

"Then you keep doing it, I'm going back to rest, I'm still hungry."

As Kamiya Gen was about to leave, he was stopped by Kiha Yuzu's sleeve.

"You have to investigate the case with me..." Muheyou said.

"What rule did you come up with? Are you trying to use your position as a police inspector to pressure me?"

"Where can I find it!"

Upon hearing this, Muheyou immediately became anxious, pulled him aside, and whispered, "Why would Kamiya-kun think that way? Am I that kind of person?"

Kamiya Gen looked her up and down, then deliberately said, "I suspect that's possible."

"..."

Mu Heyou frowned, feeling that he was deliberately provoking her, and said, "It's clearly your problem, okay? You called a woman to the hotel late at night, and she was hiding outside, afraid of being discovered. I don't know what she had to hide from..."

"Stop, stop, stop. Let's talk about the case. The forensic doctor is still over there. Why are you saying all this?"

"Are you willing to investigate the case with me?"

"I can investigate even without him... Now let's just throw this evidence at the factory manager. I don't believe he can withstand the pressure. As long as we get him to talk, right?"

"It will take time, and it might be very late before I finish. By then, you'll be resting when I get back to the hotel," Muheyou said.

Kamiya Gen paused for a moment, then asked, "Did you need something from me?"

Muheyou didn't respond.

In fact, according to her thinking, since Kamiya Gen took a woman to a hotel last night, she should have been the one giving him a hard time, while he was hanging around her every day just to apologize.

Who would have thought that he hadn't even witnessed this scene, and this guy even helped someone else solve a case, just so he could leave the police station sooner.

If he doesn't come and keep coaxing me, who can I vent my anger on... Pah! What do you mean by coaxing me? It's his fault to begin with.

It's all because Kamiya-kun is so indiscreet; it has absolutely nothing to do with me!
