Wizard: I'm leveling up by AFK in another world
Chapter 81 Balman
As a crystallization of spiritual energy, falay can only be used and created by wizards or beings from the spirit world.
If neither of them has ever set foot in this godforsaken place, then there's only one possibility left.
"This place was once connected to the spirit world!" Claire and Isabella said in unison.
The two remained silent for a moment, then awkwardly looked away.
The strange atmosphere lingered.
"You should still remember the origins of the Ironblood Continent and Silvertree Island as recorded in the Legion Handbook, right?" Claire decided to change the subject.
"Of course," Isabella continued, "Deep within the Earth's crust, a tremendous force tore the world apart and pushed the two fragments of the world apart in opposite directions, thus forming the spectacular volcanic belt of the Ironblood Continent directly beneath Silvertree Island."
"The two have each formed entirely new worlds, but because they share a common origin, there is still an unobstructed hyperspace passage connecting the two worlds."
"So now we know what that immense force is," Claire said. "Or rather, someone knew it before we did."
"You mean those orcs?" Isabella frowned slightly. "They simply cannot understand psionic energy."
"They certainly couldn't understand it, but they would most likely discover that the miracle of Silvertree Island was not created by the Elf Father God, but by the land beneath their feet."
Claire's mind clicked with the information, and he began to speak eloquently: "They must also think, how wonderful it would be if they could utilize this earth-shattering power!"
"This region has hundreds of volcanoes, but only a few dozen are revered as sacred mountains by the orcs. Look at the stories they make up about their sacred mountains—even a kindergarten picture book wouldn't be this idiotic!"
Isabella asked in confusion, "What's a kindergarten?"
"It's nothing... What I mean is, these sacred mountains are not just for religious reasons, but because the orcs discovered some secret within them, and therefore called them sacred mountains and protected them."
"This 'Wrathful One' was once connected to the spirit world. Could the other sacred mountains be the same?"
"Is it possible that those orcs were carrying so-called sacred relics into the holy mountain in an attempt to harness the psionic energy deep within the volcano?"
Isabella was clearly shocked by this conjecture: "But how can they utilize it? That's psionic energy! The most unstable energy in the entire star system."
"I don't think we need to worry about the enemy," Claire stood up. "Let's go. I think there must be some kind of altar deep inside this volcano."
"Once we find that place, we'll naturally know what kind of medicine these orcs are selling."
"Selling...medicine?"
Claire waved her hand and walked ahead first.
Isabella watched his retreating figure, bit her lip, and followed him.
She was used to being the one in charge.
And Claire, who was her "subordinate" just half a day ago.
Now he acts like she's on equal footing with him, and he even says things that she can't understand very naturally.
But thinking about it carefully, she doesn't seem to be... that annoying?
……
……
The Throne of the Underworld starship.
The heavy black steel gate slid open slowly to both sides with a low, mechanical grinding sound.
A chilling surge of magical energy emanated from the crack in the door.
The two high-ranking wizard apprentices guarding the door instantly turned pale and instinctively lowered their heads, not daring to even breathe.
Balman emerged from the shadows of the meditation room, wearing a well-tailored dark purple robe.
He didn't exude any uncontrollable pressure; all his magic was perfectly contained within his body.
But it is precisely this extreme restraint that brings a heavy sense of oppression to the space around him.
He could feel that he was getting closer and closer to the threshold of level three.
"Welcome back, sir." The two apprentices bowed respectfully.
Balman ignored them and walked straight to the command hall, which was directly connected to the meditation room.
The hall was dimly lit, with only the central holographic tactical sand table emitting a faint glow.
A dozen or so advanced apprentices were busy processing various messy intelligence reports at the control panel.
Upon seeing Balmain walk in, everyone immediately stopped what they were doing, stood up straight in unison, and bowed their heads in greeting.
"My lord, you have finally emerged from seclusion."
A first-level wizard, who was sitting in the main seat in the hall, quickly gave up his seat and hurried forward to greet him.
He is Balman's trusted confidant, named Green, and is currently in charge of coordinating the day-to-day operations of the entire temporary base.
"During my seclusion, has anything important happened?" Balman walked to the tactical sand table, his gaze casually sweeping over the flashing dots on it.
Green immediately pulled out a parchment scroll and began his report.
"First, let's finalize the assessment of the starship's damage. My lord, as you predicted before you went into seclusion, the situation is extremely dire."
"The mages in charge of repairs have given up entirely. The starship's main engines suffered irreversible overload and burned out during the crash, and the core crystal array shattered into dust. Even more serious is the damage to the communication equipment."
"We tried spatial resonance across all frequency bands, and even used the backup astral transponder tower, but all the signals we sent out were like throwing a stone into the sea, with no response whatsoever."
"We are still unable to contact Wuhua Island, and the Pan-Continental Communications in this world are still not working properly."
"The only saving grace is that the ship's close-in weapon system and some of the magic-powered main cannons were repaired and are barely operational through an external magic pool, which ensures the absolute safety of our temporary base."
Despite hearing this appalling report, Balman showed no surprise or anger.
He simply gave a faint "hmm".
"As expected. For a spatial tremor of that magnitude, the mages did their best to preserve the weapon systems using these sophisticated magical instruments. Continue."
Green was somewhat uneasy about his superior's unusual calmness, but he dared not ask any questions and continued to report by flipping through the scroll.
"The second thing concerns the current state of the base and personnel losses."
"The base's supplies are currently very tight. Due to the forced landing, we have lost most of our logistical supply lines. Potions, reels, and magic stones to keep the equipment running are all being consumed rapidly."
"The fire element magic of the Ironblood Continent is too violent. With our current equipment, the cost of purifying the magic is too high, and the efficiency is also difficult to increase."
"Regarding personnel... more than half of the Legion's personnel are still scattered outside and have lost contact with the base."
At this point, Green paused, a hint of anxiety in his voice: "Sir, you haven't issued a large-scale search and rescue order, so the progress in gathering personnel has been far from ideal..."
"Those natives are hunting down lone wizard apprentices like madmen. If the base doesn't intervene soon, the legion's final mortality rate will be staggering, and the losses from this campaign will be..."
Balman reached up and pushed up his gold-rimmed glasses, a cruel smirk playing on his lips.
"Waste and damage? What does that have to do with me?"
"Isn't the current situation entirely Salos's fault?"
