Wizard: I'm leveling up by AFK in another world
Chapter 76 The Mutant Sapling
Faced with an attack that could threaten the entire Ranger squad, Elian didn't even make any defensive stance.
As the sorcery attack drew near, the surrounding trees suddenly glowed silver and then began to writhe violently as if they had come to life.
Several sturdy trees bent down, forming a shield in front of Elian.
The three spells landed on these ordinary trees, but were directly absorbed by the silver light on their surfaces.
"How is this possible?"
To the astonishment of the three wizard apprentices, the ground beneath their feet suddenly cracked open.
Countless tree roots burst forth from the ground, instantly wrapping around their ankles, waists, and arms holding the wands.
They struggled desperately, but the tree roots shimmered with a silvery light, holding them firmly in place.
"Feel the fury of nature."
Elian’s cold voice rang in the ears of the three wizard apprentices.
He clenched his fist, and the tree roots binding the wizard apprentice tightened suddenly.
laugh!
Three heads shot into the sky, and blood spurted more than two meters high from their necks.
Fran stared blankly at all of this.
They act ruthlessly and cruelly, giving the enemy no chance.
Is this still the legendary, elegant Prince Arian?
Elian, however, did not see anything wrong with it.
He watched indifferently as the three corpses fell limply to the ground, then turned and helped Fran, who was kneeling, to his feet.
Are you alright?
"I...I'm fine..."
"That's good," Elian smiled. "You're safe now, so please relax."
Fran then realized that the three powerful wizard apprentices had been killed by Elian all by himself.
And those trees and the silver light.
He had a bold guess in his mind.
"You could not possibly have already...?"
"Unfortunately, we're still one step short." Elian guessed what Fran was thinking. "The reason I possessed that power is actually because..."
He hesitated for a moment, then changed the subject: "Are there any other teammates nearby?"
Fran shook his head: "They're all dead. We were discovered while searching for water, and to cover the main force, we scattered and fled. Now I'm the only one left."
Elian offered little comfort, simply nodding: "Come with me first. It's not safe here; the energy fluctuations will soon attract other wizards."
The two walked one after the other into the depths of the forest.
Not long after, a soft rustling sound came from the woods.
Several elven rangers wielding bows and arrows leaped gracefully down from the treetops, landing steadily in front of Elian.
"Your Highness, the area within five kilometers has been cleared, and no other wizards have been found," the leading ranger reported.
Elian nodded: "Well done. Take him with you, let's go back to camp."
Fran then discovered that a well-trained elf squad was hidden in this forest.
They moved swiftly and without saying a word, quickly erasing all traces left by the two.
Then they disappeared into the shadows of the trees and cleared a path ahead.
The group headed towards the heart of the Silvermoon Tree Forest.
As Fran followed behind Elian, the deeper they went, the more he could feel the magical environment around them becoming more peaceful and pure, as if they had returned to a peaceful era.
After walking for about an hour, the view ahead suddenly opened up.
Fran stopped in his tracks, staring in astonishment at the sight before him.
This place should have been a dense primeval forest, but now it has been transformed into a sizable camp.
Hundreds of elves were busy here. They were building treehouses and carrying boxes of supplies.
Judging from their attire and physique, most of the elves here were, not long ago, like Farhan, scattered and wandering soldiers.
But now, they are brought together by some powerful force and are doing their own things in an orderly manner.
What shocked Fran the most were the tall Silver Moon Trees all around.
Logically, with the Father God gone missing and the World Tree withered, these Silver Moon Trees, which are essentially transformed from the roots of the World Tree, should have lost their ability to function.
Aside from growing quietly, they can at most chat with the elves.
But here, Fran saw a Silvermoon Tree bending down its thick branches, offering a few shimmering fruits to an injured elf.
On the other side, the canopies of several Silvermoon Trees intertwined, forming a tranquil place for elves to cultivate.
Even at the edge of the camp, Fran saw tree roots breaking through the soil, arranged tightly like a fence, forming a sturdy defensive wall.
"These...these Silvermoon Trees can still move?" Fran couldn't help but exclaim.
"Yes." Elian glanced back at him and explained, "The Silvermoon Tree here still shelters the elves."
Elian led Fran into the camp. Along the way, elves kept bowing and greeting Elian.
"Your Highness, you're back." An older elf came forward to greet him. His left arm was empty, with a blood-soaked bandage wrapped around the severed area.
"Thank you for your hard work, Elder Karl." Elian nodded slightly. "How are the wounded?"
When the royal court fell, the elder fulfilled his campaign promise, saving many civilians and leading them to safety.
Unfortunately, his abilities were limited, and the wizard eventually caught up with his team.
At the critical moment, Karl stepped forward and lured the wizard away. However, he was also lucky, as he was rescued by Elian before returning to the embrace of the Father God.
"Today we gathered another thirty-odd survivors who retreated from the Bridge of Sighs. The lightly wounded have been bandaged, while the seriously wounded are still relying on the sap of the Silvermoon Tree to stay alive," Elder Karl reported.
His tone was calm, without much emotional fluctuation.
Elian pointed to Fran behind him: "His name is Fran, he's the captain of a ranger squad. Take him to rest and give him something to eat."
"No problem." Elder Karl looked at Fran. "Come with me, young man."
Fran was taken to an area on the east side of the camp, which was a place specifically for newcomers and lightly wounded soldiers.
Elder Karl handed him a wooden bowl containing water and a few silver berries.
"Eat up, your wound will heal soon."
Fran took the wooden bowl and began to wolf down the food.
The berries melted in my mouth, turning into a warm current that flowed through my body, instantly dispelling much of the fatigue and hunger I had felt over the past few days.
He ate while observing the situation at the camp.
He found the layout to be very clear and that it was still expanding, as if it were rebuilding a forest home for elves.
It seems that those Silvermoon Trees are not only mobile, but also give His Highness Elion a great deal of confidence.
After a while, Elian finished what he was doing and went to where Fran was resting.
He sat down on a rock opposite the flanker and got straight to the point.
"You can see our camp now. Do you have any questions?"
Fran put down the wooden bowl and sat up straight. "Your Highness, what exactly is going on here? Why are those Silver Moon Trees moving? Are we safe here? And... you said before that you were just one step away from the Holy Land..."
Elian patiently answered his questions, and tirelessly recounted the legend of the newborn Silvermoon sapling for who knows how many times.
Seeing Fran frozen in place as expected, Elian continued, "I'm still a little short of reaching the Saintly Realm. My previous power actually relied on the Silvermoon Tree Forest."
"As long as I don't leave the area covered by this forest, I can not only become a sanctuary, but also have an inexhaustible source of power."
Fran's gaze towards Elian had changed. Beyond the original respect, a different emotion had emerged.
"So what do we do next? Just stay here?" Fran asked.
"Of course not. We are here to recuperate and rebuild our forces. At the same time, we are also launching proactive attacks."
"Just like we saved you today, we'll send out squads to patrol the edge of the forest and ambush lone or small groups of wizard apprentices. We'll wear them down while plundering their supplies."
Elian pointed to the bustling training ground on the west side: "We can no longer fight like before. The wizards' methods are unpredictable, and our traditional battle formations are no match for them."
"We must learn how to conduct small-scale guerrilla warfare, how to utilize the terrain, and how to kill with a single blow."
"Fran, you're an experienced ranger captain; you know these things inside and out. Would you like to join us?"
Without the slightest hesitation, Fran stood up and gave a standard military salute: "I do, Your Highness."
Elian was very satisfied with his reaction.
The camp has absorbed more than a dozen talents like Fran in recent days.
Thanks to their efforts and the protection of the Silvermoon Tree, everything here is moving in a positive direction.
"Very good. Elder Karl will assign you specific tasks. Rest for a day, and start training tomorrow." After saying this, Elian turned to leave.
Just then, a series of hurried footsteps approached.
Elian stopped in his tracks, and Fran looked in the direction of the sound.
It was Ella who came running. Her expression was very serious, even a little tense.
She leaned close to Elian's ear and whispered, "Your Highness, you must come with me to the Sacred Pool immediately. That sapling... has changed."
Elian frowned, but didn't ask any further questions, simply replying, "Lead the way."
