Wizard: I'm leveling up by AFK in another world
Chapter 44 The Power of the Formal Wizard
After a brief period of silence, the colossal fungus that blotted out the sky seemed to finally realize what was happening on the ground.
It emitted a low growl as ethereal as a whale's song yet terrifying, and countless spore clouds spread outwards like a sandstorm, covering the entire basin.
"This thing..." Kyle glanced in surprise at the sensory magic stone in his hand, whose reading had suddenly surged. "Its energy response is still rising, and it has already broken through the limits of an apprentice."
"Whether it's a priest or not, it's beyond our capabilities!"
"Then what do we do? Give up?" Silas asked, somewhat unwillingly. "It's full of life essence! I wonder how many contribution points we could get if we took it back..."
"Of course not."
Kyle thought for a moment, then took out a purple crystal from his pocket.
"Are you sure? Who knows what kind of personality this summoned wizard has!" Lina reminded her from the side.
This is an emergency communication beacon that every combat squad is assigned to, capable of summoning a formal wizard.
Using it means the squad mission has failed and no rewards will be obtained.
If you're unlucky, you might even be conscripted without pay by the summoned wizard.
After all, for the conquerors, this move was essentially to reduce legion losses and avoid punishment from the Wizard Tower.
As long as no one dies, it doesn't matter how you save them.
"Going back now will only get us a mission reward. As scouts, we won't get any credit for discovering the priest." Kyle crushed the crystal.
hum-
An invisible mental ripple shot into the sky, piercing through the thick clouds above the Gray Mushroom Swamp.
Only five minutes had passed.
The spore cloud that shrouded the basin in the distance suddenly seemed to be stirred up by an invisible giant hand.
Immediately afterwards, a violent and terrifying pressure descended from the sky.
Claire instinctively looked up, her pupils slightly contracting.
A burning meteor streaked across the sky, trailing a long tail of flame, and plummeted straight towards the center of the basin.
"Here he comes! He's a full-fledged fire elemental wizard!" Silas exclaimed, his eyes filled with awe.
Boom!
The meteor exploded in the sky above the basin, revealing the figures inside.
He was surrounded by three crimson fireballs. Just by hovering there, the surrounding air was distorted by the high temperature, and the poisonous mist that tried to get close was evaporated at a distance of 100 meters.
The fire elemental wizard looked down at the roaring giant fungus, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.
"I'm Ronald from the Seventh Squadron," a booming voice boomed in the six men's ears. "What have you found, boys?"
The voice sounded friendly.
Kyle immediately stepped forward and bowed respectfully: "Your Excellency Ronald, during our reconnaissance mission, we discovered this large creature, which is suspected to be the 'Priest' that headquarters is focusing on."
"Oh?"
Ronald, high in the sky, couldn't help but observe the massive figure on the ground again, then a look of delight spread across his face: "Good, very good!"
"It's a polymer structure... I've been searching for so long, and I never expected to find it in this small place."
His gaze toward the giant fungus suddenly became incredibly intense.
"Step back, little ones. I don't want to hurt you."
Before he finished speaking, and without even checking whether the six men had retreated, Ronald raised his right hand and snapped his fingers lightly.
Snapped.
The three fireballs that were originally surrounding him instantly expanded, transforming into three giant fire pythons tens of meters long, roaring as they charged toward the giant fungus below.
"It's the Dance of the Flame Serpents! Its intricate magical flow structure allows its power to approach that of a second-circle spell!" Silas explained from the side, his eyes burning like Ronald's.
He didn't need to say it.
Even from a great distance, Claire could still feel the wave of heat hitting her face.
He subconsciously squinted, carefully observing the battlefield.
This was his first time witnessing a formal wizard's battle up close. The control and qualitative change in energy was something that an apprentice's zero-ring tricks could never match.
"roar!"
The giant fungus in the center of the basin felt a deadly threat.
Its hundreds of tentacles thrashed wildly, and high-pressure acid venom spewed from the holes in its body, attempting to extinguish the flames.
But under Ronald's control, the three giant fire pythons nimbly weaved between their tentacles, leaving behind trails of fire.
Once the flames touched the tentacles' skin, they burst into flames and couldn't be shaken off no matter how hard you tried.
Soon, the once invincible giant fungus was utterly powerless and became a torch in the hands of the wizard.
"Is this the power of a formal wizard?" Claire murmured.
The other five also showed fanatical expressions.
On the starship, the power of the Spirit Gathering Wizard, Lord Crimson Lotus, was indeed vast and boundless, but it was too far removed from their reach.
Formal wizards, on the other side of their wizarding path, can already see the scenery in the distance.
The battle lasted less than ten minutes.
During Silas's commentary, Ronald added a "Lava Burst," causing the giant fungus, which was hundreds of meters tall, to let out its final lament.
Its massive body collapsed with a crash, causing the ground to tremble violently.
Amidst the billowing dust, Ronald slowly descended.
Kyle immediately led his team to meet them, stopping a hundred meters away and maintaining absolute respect.
Ronald dispersed the flames around him, toying with a crystal that emitted an emerald green light in his hand.
He was clearly in a good mood.
"The intelligence was accurate." He glanced at the six men. "You're all smart; you weren't stupid enough to go and die, and you knew to call for backup immediately."
"This is all for the glory of the Legion," Kyle replied.
"Alright, I don't want to hear this nonsense." Ronald waved his hand. "I'm leaving now. You guys should go back to headquarters as soon as possible to submit your missions; you should be able to get the first batch of rewards."
He added casually, "Don't take too long."
Having said that, the formal wizard had no interest in looking at them again. Flames surged around him, and he once again transformed into a shooting star, soaring into the sky and disappearing into the horizon in the blink of an eye.
Only when the suffocating pressure completely disappeared did the team members gasp for breath, as if they had been pulled out of the water.
"This...this is it?" Grot wiped away his cold sweat. "Can we go back and collect our mission rewards now?"
"Can't you understand human language? They're telling us to quickly loot the battlefield!" Lina glared at the big, dumb guy.
"Huh? Oh, oh!"
Without saying another word, the six of them pounced on the still-smoking basin like hungry wolves.
"Kyle! Look at this!"
Silas stood beside a huge, broken root and shouted.
Kyle ran over quickly.
The crack from which the giant fungus had emerged—which Ronald had, of course, blasted into a deep crater—had a pool of golden liquid at its bottom, like a pond flowing with gold.
"Life essence..."
Kyle crouched down, inhaling the pure, life-giving scent, and all his fatigue vanished.
"Quick! Everyone come over here and load this thing up!"
