Wizard: I'm leveling up by AFK in another world
Chapter 19 Escape
Marius's magic book pages flew, continuously releasing bolts of lightning and rain of fire.
The sound of the witchcraft explosion was still deafening, but Marius's heart had sunk to the bottom.
His gaze passed over his increasingly transparent magical phantom and looked down at the battlefield.
The base's energy shield disappeared fifteen minutes ago.
The mutated fish-men scaled the walls and destroyed one magical cannon after another that had claimed the lives of countless of their kind.
Although Marius doubted whether these monsters would still consider normal fishmen as their fellow human beings.
But undeniably, they withstood the wizards' proud barrage of firepower, preparing to tear apart the base's last line of defense.
"Evil wizards, you have run out of options."
The high priest's booming, calm voice pierced Marius's heart.
"Shut up!"
He angrily tore the pages off the book and threw them at the giant tortoise in the distance.
The page transformed into a thick bolt of purple lightning in mid-air, striking the ice crystal shield summoned by the sea race's high priest.
Click.
The ice shield shattered instantly, but the lightning was also completely neutralized.
"It's useless; your power has dwindled to nothingness." The sea race high priest stood unmoved, staff in hand. "I too have little left, but it's enough to stop you..."
"Hmph!" Ma Lu snorted coldly, but he had to admit that the other party was right.
The power supply to the magic center has been cut off; it can only replenish his magic power, but can no longer provide him with any amplification.
Seeing that the vast majority of the mutated sea creatures had crossed the wall, Marius knew that maintaining the phantom was pointless and simply withdrew.
As soon as his consciousness returned to his body in the command room, Mario heard a constant stream of emergency reports.
"My lord, all the magic cannons have been destroyed."
"The western defense line has been breached! Monsters are charging in!"
"My lord, the remaining magic power in the core is less than 20%!"
Marius slumped in the main seat, his anger suddenly subsiding.
"Why is this happening..." he muttered to himself.
Everything happened too fast and too suddenly.
As the newly transferred farm manager, Mario received information that this place was close to Whale City, and there were no fishman tribes within a hundred miles, and there had never been any attacks.
However, the attack occurred just one month later.
The enemy had clearly been planning this for a long time.
The organization's military strength, the lurking spies, the pace of the attack... and that mysterious, decisive spell.
Marius suddenly widened his eyes.
Long-planned... Unknown magic...
He abruptly stood up, looked down at the panicked faces below, and waved his hand: "Pass on my order to shrink the defensive line."
"Notify the advanced apprentices outside the command channel to immediately retreat to the main tower and prepare to initiate the emergency lockdown procedure."
"But sir, there are still many workers on the outer defense line..."
"I can't worry about that now," Marius said coldly. "If we keep dawdling, nobody will survive."
"Concentrate our forces to defend the main tower; we still have a chance to receive reinforcements from Whale City!"
……
……
Clang.
The freight elevator door was forcibly pried open, and two disheveled figures tumbled out of the elevator shaft.
"Cough cough cough... my back..." Rod lay on the ground, groaning in pain.
Claire ignored his complaints, quickly sprang to her feet, and warily scanned her surroundings.
This is the base's ground floor, a laboratory area that is not normally open to ordinary employees like them.
However, most of the base's facilities were cut off from power at this time, which allowed them to break in.
The cold, pale light from the ceiling lamps illuminated the huge glass jars arranged neatly on both sides.
The jars were filled with all sorts of deep-sea creature specimens, some as small as a palm and others as tall as a person, silently watching the two intruders in the specially prepared solution.
"Are you sure there's a research submarine here?" Claire turned around and looked at Rhodes, who was clutching his waist and howling.
"Well, I'm not sure... but we're really desperate!"
Claire really wanted to kick the guy, but reason told her that time was running out.
"Let's split up and search." He took a deep breath.
Fortunately, although Rhodes's mind was questionable, his intelligence was as reliable as ever.
They looked around and found the room where the submarine was located.
On the narrow surface of the water, a uniquely shaped ship was quietly moored.
It resembles a giant silver ray, with a streamlined fuselage that exudes a cold metallic sheen and unfolded propellers on both sides.
"This is... the Deep Sea Ghost III!" Rhodes' eyes widened, even forgetting his fear, as he leaned closer to examine it greedily. "My God! This is a top-tier research vehicle that the Charles family doesn't sell to outsiders! I heard it's only issued to core laboratories!"
"So, can you drive?"
"Uh, no."
"Then hurry up and go in to study it!" Claire conjured a wizard's hand, grabbed Rhodes, and was about to throw him directly into the cabin.
"Wait! Wait!" the red-haired youth struggled desperately. "Did you hear something?"
"A sound?" Claire frowned slightly, but calmed down to listen.
hiss……
Sure enough, there really was some strange sound coming from...
Claire turned around abruptly.
The Wizard's Eye activated, quickly traversing the corridor and arriving at the elevator shaft.
He arrived just in time, and saw two pale hands slowly emerging from the deep well.
Immediately afterwards, two distorted faces emerged from the darkness.
"This is outrageous!"
He glared at Rhodes, wanting nothing more than to tear him to pieces: "What the hell are you covered in? Someone's been following us by the scent!"
Rhodes looked completely bewildered: "Wh...what is that?"
The next second, he let out a scream and was thrown heavily into the cabin.
"You have two minutes to start this submarine." Claire walked into the room. "If you fail, we're all dead."
He poured in the mental restoration potion he had taken from the desk during the search while simultaneously channeling his magic.
Soon, he heard a noise coming from around the corner of the corridor.
boom!
As soon as Anna and Bella climbed over, they were met with two enormous fireballs.
The fireball spell, along with the fire crystal bomb, exploded together, but only scorched the mucus on their surface.
"roar!"
The monster, realizing what was happening, smashed a lab table next to Claire with a single blow, forcing him to tumble and dodge in a sorry state.
Before Claire could catch her breath, alarm bells were ringing in her mind.
He quickly summoned the Wizard's Hand and pushed it toward the glass jar beside him.
clap clap.
The liquid and specimens bursting from the jars, combined with the slowing spell, barely halted the two sisters' offensive momentum.
"Rhodes! Why the hell aren't you done yet?!"
Claire cursed as she continued working on her hands.
Suddenly, a long tongue shot out from his blind spot and knocked him to the ground.
The liquid flowing from the glass jar was so slippery that Claire couldn't even stand up for a moment.
"Damn it..."
Just as he closed his eyes in despair, he suddenly felt his body lighten, and then he flew into the air and flew backward rapidly.
When he opened his eyes again, he was already inside a submarine, with Rhodes' excited shouts still echoing in his ears:
"It's done! It's done!"
"Am I reliable?"
"say!"
