Wizard: I'm leveling up by AFK in another world
Chapter 12 Spy
"That's true, but you know, our dorm is only so big, we'll see each other all the time..." Rod sighed, then his eyes suddenly lit up as if he had thought of something.
"By the way, let's not talk about such depressing things. Since you're in a bad mood and meditation isn't working, why don't we go somewhere nice to relax?" He gave a strange smile.
"A good place?"
"A deep-sea kiss." The red-haired youth began winking meaningfully. "It's right in the residential area, the only bar in this godforsaken place. They have drinks, music, and women!"
Claire wanted to refuse; he wasn't interested in such a place of debauchery.
But then I thought, staying cooped up in the meditation room all the time wouldn't really help, so I might as well not spoil this informative friend's fun.
"Okay, let's go take a look."
……
……
The entrance to the Deep Sea Kiss is a shark's mouth painted pink, a design with a very clear purpose.
As you pass through the water curtain, a deafening chorus of percussion music mixed with a cacophony of voices assaults your senses.
The interior was dimly lit and dimly lit, with glowing colorful coral and jellyfish lights hanging everywhere.
According to Rod, this place was converted from an abandoned boiler room, and now it is completely unrecognizable from what it used to be.
In the center of the hall is a huge circular water tank filled with clear seawater.
Three mermaid dancers, with upper bodies of graceful human women and lower bodies of silver fish tails, are dancing gracefully in the water.
Their long hair flowed like seaweed, their eyes were dreamy, and every movement drew whistles and cheers from the onlookers.
Those weaving through the crowd to deliver drinks were a group of short, large-eyed fish-men with comical webbed feet.
They wore ill-fitting vests, carried trays, and humbly served customers amidst their insults and jeers.
"How about it? I told you it was a good place!" Rod shouted, trying to drown out the music.
He skillfully beckoned to a fish-man waiter and brought him two glasses of liqueur.
"Company perks. For just a few dozen wizard coins, you can sit here all night and enjoy the show of these otherworldly natives." Rhodes took a sip of his drink, looking completely blissful. "This is life! Damn giant clam, to hell with performance reviews!"
Claire raised his glass somewhat awkwardly and smiled ingratiatingly. He still felt the place was too noisy.
While Rod joined the crowd in applauding and cheering for the beautiful mermaid's performance, he could only fidget and glance around restlessly.
Just then, he saw two tall figures sitting in the corner of the hall, who, like him, seemed out of place in the surrounding atmosphere.
Claire felt the face looked familiar, squinted to look closer, and then raised an eyebrow slightly.
It's those two brothers.
Why would these two come to a place like this?
Claire sensed something was amiss. He decided to use his Wizard's Eye to observe more closely.
Seth, the older brother, was still shirtless, holding a glass of wine in his hand, but he didn't drink it. He just stared coldly at the mermaid dancer in the tank with his dead fish-like eyes.
The younger brother, Ryan, kept his head down, looking somewhat uneasy. Occasionally, he would look up at his older brother, his eyes carrying a hint of something indescribable.
"What bad luck, those two freaks are here too." Rhodes also noticed them, and curled his lip. "Look at the way that older brother looks at us, like he wants to devour those mermaids alive."
Claire did not respond.
The moment the Wizard's Eye focused on the two of them, a line of striking red text suddenly appeared before their eyes:
[Blueprint material detected: Fish Spirit Spine]
Upon hearing Rod's words, his hand trembled violently, but he immediately lowered his head and used the act of drinking to conceal the shock in his eyes.
It turned out to be the case.
In just a moment, Claire understood many things.
A loner, an experimental subject, and someone who almost killed someone... Seth's gaze towards the mermaid dancer wasn't filled with murderous intent, but rather with the anger of someone whose race had been humiliated!
As a colonized race, the Blue Ocean Fishmen are not allowed to be employed as formal staff under the supreme law of Five Flower Island.
These two could only have used some method to conceal their presence, forge their identities, and infiltrate the Gray Amber Workshop.
Their purpose in doing this was clearly not to earn magic stones.
"Claire? What's wrong?" Rhodes noticed Claire's unusual behavior. "What are you daydreaming about? Did that mermaid over there wink at you?"
"I'm fine," Claire shook her head. "I just suddenly realized that this place is more interesting than I imagined."
Ignoring Rod's flippant expression and words, Claire had only one question in her mind.
Should I report it?
……
……
One thousand meters underwater.
Sunlight has become a luxury here; only a faint, eerie blue light shines through some bioluminescent plants and minerals on the seabed, barely outlining the contours of this underwater world.
The seawater felt heavy as lead, pressing down on every inch of my skin.
Claire leaned against a rock wall, staring intently at the giant tidal clam on the seabed ahead.
It was a size larger than the one he had seen during the assessment, and its shell was covered with the mottled marks of time, like a rock with teeth.
This is an old clam that has been growing for at least twenty years.
This is also Claire's last goal for today.
"The shipment's done. I should be able to collect this week's bonus. I'll treat Rhodes to a drink then, to thank him for the book," Claire thought to herself.
Since confirming the identities of the two brothers at the "Deep Sea Kiss" that night, he chose not to report it, but acted as if nothing had happened and carried out his work as usual.
In the past six days, he has collected three pearls, ranking among the top in the team's collection leaderboard and being the only newcomer on the list.
This morning before she went into the water, the coach specifically asked her to share her experience, but Claire simply said modestly:
"A good hunter must learn to wait."
Right now.
Seizing the moment when the giant tidal clam opened its shell, Claire flashed and instantly closed in.
Without the slightest hesitation, the bone knife in his hand precisely pierced the nerve ganglion beneath the fleshy pillar.
hum.
The magic power transmitted through the hilt of the sword created a slight vibration.
The giant clam trembled slightly, then, like a child being soothed, slowly opened its mouth.
A pure white pearl, about the size of a duck egg, lay quietly in the center of the pink clam meat, surrounded by tender buds.
"Good quality."
Claire reacted swiftly, pocketing the pearl and then quickly drawing her sword and retreating.
The entire process was smooth and natural, without triggering any psychological impact.
He watched as the pearl in his hand turned into a cloud of light and disappeared, and soon another pearl, smaller in size, appeared.
"All that's missing are those two pieces of fish spirit spine..."
For the past six days, he has been secretly observing Seth and Ryan.
Since that night, they have never appeared at Deep Sea Kiss again. Every day, they live a very fixed life, going between the breeding area, the canteen, and the dormitory.
What exactly is their purpose in lurking here?
After observing for a long time, Claire still found nothing.
