Chapter 37 The Contest with Lillian
"I need a warrior team that can somewhat restrain elite priests in direct combat."
"And the Silver Glow family is the strongest force in Rield City besides the City Lord's Mansion."
"As for you yourself, you are the strongest warrior in Rield City besides the city lord."
Arya was stunned.
"You want me to mobilize the family's resources?" Arya asked.
"Yes." Lance nodded.
"Do you still want me in person?" Arya continued to ask.
"Yes." Lance nodded again.
"You really dare to say that."
So, are you willing?
Arya picked up her glass and downed the rest of the red wine in one gulp.
"Yes." She put down her wine glass, her amber eyes gleaming with a fiery light.
"The Silver Glow family can deploy twenty professionals, including two Level 5 elite warriors. In addition, I myself will participate personally."
"Where's Lillian?" Lance asked.
Arya remained silent for a moment.
"She's going too."
Finally, the duchess said in a deep voice, "Since you said that Lillian might become a target, then she needs to learn how to face such an enemy."
Lance stated, "She can work with Cecilia on the periphery to deal with any remaining fugitives."
"Is Cecilia going too?"
"Yes." Lance nodded. "She has become a ranger and needs to hone her skills in real combat with other professionals. Besides, there are many people on this mission, so it will be safer for her to come along."
"Then it's settled." Arya extended her hand. "When do we move?"
Lance gently took her hand.
"Tonight," Lance said. "I'll go to the old textile factory tonight to scout things out. If the bishop isn't there, I'll check other outposts."
"Once the bishop's location is confirmed, I will inform you and then take action."
"Do you need me to send someone with you to scout ahead?"
"No need," Lance shook his head. "I'll go alone; it'll be more secluded. You can take your time preparing."
"Okay." Arya nodded. "I'll take care of it."
Lance stood up, and Cielsa followed suit.
Just as they were about to take their leave, Arya raised her hand, signaling them to wait a moment.
"It's not time for Lillian's class yet," she said, a smile playing on her lips as she unconsciously twirled a strand of hair, "but since I'm already here..."
"Why don't we start now? That child has been talking about it ever since he came home last night, saying he wants to work even harder today."
Lance glanced at the bright sunshine outside the window and nodded: "Okay."
When Lillian arrived at the training hall, she was wearing a light gray training uniform, her long, fiery red hair was tied into playful pigtails, and there were beads of sweat on her forehead.
She had clearly just finished training.
Upon seeing Lance, her eyes lit up, and she jogged over.
"Teacher! You're here!" she exclaimed, her cheeks flushed. "Why did you come so quickly today?"
Lance smiled and stroked her hair: "Come talk to your mother about tonight's plan."
"What operation? Can I go?!" Lillian suddenly became excited, her eyes wide open like a little leopard spotting its prey.
"Your mother will tell you later," Lance said, pulling her towards the study. "Now it's time for class..."
Sissa said she didn't want to participate and stayed at the training ground to practice her knife skills alone.
In the study, Lily sat properly with her hands on her knees.
Lance sat down opposite her and took a piece of parchment from his pocket, spreading it on the table.
"Today, we will continue to explain the spell model of [Light].
He traced lines on the paper with his fingertip, "Look here—the energy node of [Light Spell]..."
Lillian nodded, seemingly understanding but not quite.
Lance continued, tracing the path of light in the air with his fingers.
Lillian stared at the glowing lines, her brows furrowing, her expression shifting from focused to confused, and finally almost blank.
At noon, Lance and Celeste decided to have lunch at the Silvershine Family Restaurant.
At the dinner table, Lillian kept glancing at Lance, seemingly wanting to say something but holding back.
Arya noticed and gently nudged her daughter's foot.
"Eat properly," she whispered.
Lillian buried her head in her rice.
The afternoon classes continued.
Lance drew bright lines in the air: "Shaping structure..."
Lillian still couldn't understand; Lillian was still a fussy parent today.
……
Lance checked the time—it was already four o'clock in the afternoon.
"Snapped!"
Lance clapped his hands.
"Alright, that concludes today's lessons. Let's go outside and stretch our legs."
Lillian suddenly woke up with a start: "Ah, teacher, where are we going?"
"The first floor of the training hall is where you usually conduct soldier training."
In the training hall, Cielsa had just finished a set of chopping exercises and was wiping her scimitar with a cloth.
Upon seeing the two, she sheathed her sword and approached: "Lord Lance, is it over?"
"It ended, but now it's starting again."
Lance walked to the weapons rack and drew a training longsword.
The sword was made of unsharpened steel, heavy, and he deftly twirled it in his hand.
Lillian stood ten steps away from him, staring at him blankly.
Lance chuckled. "Don't just stand there like an idiot. Grab a sword too, and let's give it a try. We'll use your best swordsmanship."
After all, they would be facing cultists that night. He already knew Sielsa's strength, but he didn't really know what level Lillian, a level 4 warrior, was at.
How can this be allowed?
Lillian was taken aback: "Teacher wants to spar with me?"
"right."
"With swordsmanship?"
"Hmm~"
"But..." Lillian looked troubled, "You're a mage, and I'm a warrior! How can this be..."
"Why not?" Lance said nonchalantly, holding his sword at his side with one hand. "Although magic is my talent, melee combat is also my hobby!"
Lance wasn't very skilled in swordsmanship, but that didn't matter.
Faced with such a difference in attributes, Lillian's swordsmanship is nothing more than a clever trick.
Lillian looked at her mother, Arya, who was leaning against the second-floor railing, holding a glass of red wine and smiling as she looked down.
"Go ahead, little star," Arya said with a smile, taking a sip of her drink. "Let your teacher see how well you've been practicing."
Lillian bit her lip, turned around and took a training longsword from the weapon rack that was almost as tall as her.
The moment she gripped the sword, her demeanor changed—her back straightened, her eyes sharpened, and the fierce aura of a warrior naturally emanated from her.
"Teacher, please instruct me." She gripped the sword with both hands, her expression serious, and assumed the starting stance of the Silver Glow Sword Technique.
"Wait a moment."
Lance raised his hand and began casting a spell.
