Demigod Mage in America
Chapter 53 If Our Roles Were Switched
Today is the day before Christmas, and it's very cold on the streets of New York.
But people's hearts are warm.
The streets were brightly lit, and countless Christmas decorations were hung in front of the shops.
People, dressed in thick clothes, walked down the street, feeling the strong festive atmosphere.
The cold rain pelted down on people, but it did not deter them from going out.
Everything seemed so ordinary, as if the Spider Woman controversy from a few days ago had already passed.
The only difference is that there are a lot more Gwen Stacy merchandise items in the store recently.
Businessmen are always profit-driven, especially when it comes to business opportunities that cannot be concealed.
David tightened his collar, feeling somewhat uneasy.
"Don't be nervous, walk forward confidently. Today I'm your assistant."
Hearing this, the corner of his mouth twitched. He turned around and looked at Ryan, who was wearing a thin trench coat, and thought to himself, "What do you mean?"
Follower? I'll kneel down for you, then stop following me, okay?
At this moment, Ryan was too lazy to care about his thoughts. His eyes searched the street and found that the place was really divided.
On one side are bustling streets, and on the other side are dilapidated alleys.
The homeless man gazed out into the darkness, hoping for alms.
People can skillfully ignore the group of homeless people, as if the two sides have achieved a symbiotic relationship.
A timid child walked past him, holding a few candies in his hands. His eyes swept over the people around him, and he couldn't help but lick his lips as he looked at the clean and steaming food in their hands.
Seeing this, Ryan left a message in David's mind: "Go buy them some food and umbrellas."
A light drizzle has begun to fall from the sky; tonight is destined to be a cold, rainy night.
David sighed. A lackey?
David returned carrying a box of freshly baked bread, while Ryan sat to the side scrolling through his phone.
David sighed. A lackey? How could he have such a crazy idea?
Such a conspicuous action naturally attracted the attention of the children.
They moved closer, but didn't dare to get too close, just staring longingly at David.
David was initially very impatient because the children kept staring at him.
However, after taking out a loaf of bread, he realized he was wrong, terribly wrong; they weren't even looking at him.
"They're just hungry, they mean you no harm." Ryan stood to the side with his hands in his pockets. "Go buy them each a hot coffee, or is there a convenience store nearby that can get them some instant noodles?"
"What should we do with these?"
"I'll send it."
David nodded upon hearing this, then turned and left.
When he returned with a box of instant noodles, he found the street already crowded with children of all ages.
Ryan was standing with a pink-haired girl and a white-haired girl, handing out bread.
When they saw him, they greeted him and invited him over.
"I didn't expect you to be such a kind-hearted person?" Lux said irritably.
She never expected to run into Ryan on the street, especially since he was doing charity work.
Yesterday we were talking about some kind of spiritual realm or all that nonsense, and today we bumped into each other on the street. However, he didn't seem embarrassed at all and greeted us very naturally.
"Thank you for the compliment," Ryan said, handing the bread to the girl who was less than half his height, without turning his head.
The girl gratefully shouted to him, thanking God for bringing Ryan, which made him shake his head.
He glanced at the time; it was 17:49 PM, and Murphy's party would begin in 10 minutes.
Behind him, Catherine was holding Lux's arm and whispering, "Do you know Ryan?"
Lux's gaze darted away slightly. She had run into Catherine while on a mission today, so they went shopping together.
It is indeed quite strange to see homeless people walking together with police.
"Hmm, we've got some history, how come you know her too?" Lux blushed and pulled her hair back to hide her embarrassment.
She felt that she was no longer an ordinary person, and it was best not to drag Catherine into her troublesome circle. After all, judging from Raine's behavior, she was probably not the only one in the world with this kind of power.
To protect her friend, she chose to keep everything a secret.
"It's nothing." Catherine ultimately didn't voice her doubts.
She now suspects that Lux might be the Spider-Woman from yesterday, but it doesn't quite match up. In her memory, this friend she's known for a while is just not very physically strong, but has some fighting skills.
But compared to Spider-Man and the like, isn't the difference just too great?
At this moment, Ryan saw that David had almost finished dividing the food, patted him on the shoulder, and gestured for him to follow him.
"You can divide the rest among yourselves." He turned to look at Catherine, who nodded to him.
"Feed? Why should I?" Lux said, dissatisfied.
Ryan said calmly, "So, are you going to do it or not?"
Lux was extremely reluctant, but then her expression changed as a new prompt popped up in front of her, asking her to complete the food distribution in exchange for three points.
Although it's not much, it's simple.
"I'll do it!" she said through gritted teeth, her heart filled with resentment and mixed emotions.
Ryan nodded in satisfaction and left with David.
When the food was distributed tonight, some children came to collect it themselves.
But some children are actually picked up by their families, but their excuse is that they are hungry and want to eat more.
Ryan didn't expose the children's thoughts; he simply bought a few more portions of food.
As for those adults, some of them were forced to live on the streets, while others did so because they lacked self-respect.
He declined to comment on this.
He was not the savior of any of them; he was just the one who gave them a chance.
A chance to save oneself, a chance to take revenge.
As soon as he approached the location Murphy had indicated, Ryan saw a young man pacing back and forth nearby.
Seeing that Ryan and David seemed to be preparing to enter the brownstone villa, the young man couldn't help but lean over and ask them, "Are you going inside?"
David instinctively looked at Ryan, but quickly remembered his reminder. Ryan straightened his back, stared at the young man, and said, "Yes, is there anything I can help you with, sir?"
"I'd like to trouble you to tell my fiancée that it's past her closing time, but I haven't seen her yet. I'd like you to ask her if she has something come up and can't leave tonight?" he said, then suddenly remembered something and quickly added, "By the way, she's the boss's assistant here, her name is Elena."
David hesitated for a moment, because after all, he was the follower, and the real decision-maker was behind him.
"Say yes." Ryan's voice echoed in his mind, instantly giving David the decision.
"Okay, sir. But could you please tell me your name?"
"Wade, my name is Wade Winston. Thank you, kind sir."
After a brief exchange, Ryan and David entered the villa together. There were no guards at the door, but Ryan sensed a magical fluctuation.
Clearly, the isolation here is not achieved through human intervention, but through something else entirely.
"Stop looking around, stand up straight, put your hands in your pockets, and be assertive. Also, how many times have I told you, don't look at me anymore."
Ryan's warning made David quickly put away his previous inferiority complex. He did as Ryan said, but he couldn't help but keep glancing back.
Renn, on the other hand, looked like a naive young man, following behind him, looking left and right.
The decor of this villa can be summed up in one word: nouveau riche.
Just as he was looking around, a Latino man in a suit came out.
"David?"
"it's me."
"Come in."
A light drizzle began to fall outside.
