Demigod Mage in America
Chapter 35 Arrangement
David opened the call and found it was a video call; the caller ID showed: Boss.
He instinctively prepared to hang up, but then he heard a voice.
"catch."
Ryan appeared beside him at some point, fiddling with a bottle of whiskey in his hand.
"Look at what he said. And from now on, I'm your boss."
David hesitated for a moment, but still answered the phone. As soon as he answered, he saw Murphy's gloomy face on the other end.
A Puerto Rican, or Latino, young man, who looked no older than thirty.
"David, you did a good job." Murphy's smile was forced, and his words immediately gave David a feeling of being crawled on by a venomous snake.
He forced himself to touch the goosebumps on his skin, and was about to speak respectfully when he glanced at Ryan beside him and changed the subject: "Just say what's on your mind, I'm listening."
Murphy's expression froze for a moment, then he said nonchalantly, "Now that you've killed the wild boar, you're in charge of this tavern from now on."
Ryan, standing next to him, turned his head to look at Murphy on the screen.
You could tell he was quite angry, but he managed to hold it in.
Yes, this child must not be allowed to live.
"Since there's no one else here, I'll just get straight to the point."
David paused for a moment, looking at Ryan who was leaning closer.
Is there no one else here? Then is this a ghost?
"I'll be holding a rally next week for Christmas, and you'll be in charge. Keep the bodyguards if you like them, and get rid of them if you don't. I believe you can do it."
"As for subsequent funding, I won't interfere with your bar; you just need to do as I ask."
David listened, his mouth slightly agape, completely bewildered. Was Murphy really that kind of person?
"What, you don't want to? Let me tell you, I'm protecting you. Without me, you wouldn't be able to leave that door today."
Murphy sneered, flicked his cigarette butt, and stared at him with eyes like a hawk.
"Agree to his terms, and ask him what they are."
David mechanically relayed what Ryan had said; he was now a little slow on the uptake.
The new boss made him work for the old boss, but the old boss ignored him for killing his own subordinate and instead let him take over.
"Every month, I need three complete and healthy corpses. Remember, there can be no damage, they must be fresh, and they must have died of natural causes."
Raine's gaze was deep and unfathomable.
A corpse? Did you run into a fellow traveler?
"If you can't do it, someone will replace you."
After Murphy finished speaking, he hung up the phone without waiting for David's reply.
Helpless, David could only look to Ryan.
"Go to his party on Christmas Eve, and I'll find you another assistant."
"Speak," Ryan said, waving his hand. All the bodyguards on the ground disappeared, thrown into an alley three blocks away, along with the two women.
Their memories of today have been erased; when they wake up, all they will remember is encountering a gang war.
As for the wild boar, Ryan didn't intend to throw away its carcass. Instead, he gave it to David to dissect. After all, if someone knew the skill, the boss wouldn't have to do it himself.
Ryan turned to look at David, reached out and pulled, and a thread emerged from David's chest and wrapped around his fingertips.
"I accept your freedom."
After the transaction was completed, David felt an emptiness in his heart, something he couldn't quite explain.
Looking at the bar entrance so close by, the desire to go out that I used to have completely vanished.
It was as if it had never existed.
At that moment, he knew that his freedom was dead.
Back at the firm, Ryan stared at the ball of light before him, lost in thought.
Did David really crave freedom that much?
If the power of faith before was like a nightlight, then the sphere of light now is like a flashlight.
A believer who has reached the level of deacon can provide faith that is so condensed that it can even be equivalent to that of two ordinary deacons.
"It seems it's time to build a magic network."
Each god has their own private magic network, which is subject to the control of the goddess of magic, but must still be maintained.
But it's different for Raine. There's no goddess of magic in this world, so he can do whatever he wants.
So he made a very bold decision: he didn't want to create a private magic network; he wanted to create a shadow magic network!
He wanted to build a shadow of the magic network, rather than setting up a tiny magic node.
However, this goal is still too difficult for him at present.
Raine turned to look up at the sky, his gaze piercing through the ceiling, through the clouds, and reaching the stars.
Strands of starlight-like threads cascaded down, drifting through the universe.
This is the magic net, and starlight is the physical manifestation of condensed magic.
If an ordinary mage came here, they would probably be torn to pieces.
The magic network exists anywhere in the universe.
A burst of golden light bloomed at Renn's fingertips, and the threads of starlight seemed to be drawn by something, converging like rivers flowing into the sea.
In the blink of an eye, the power of faith at Renn's fingertips transformed into a dazzling starlight.
But it was still a bit short.
"The power of faith is insufficient."
Renn sighed. He had thought the ball of faith power would be enough, but it was still not enough.
However, he soon thought of his other nuclear-powered ox, which was also the "NPC" he had given to prepare to push David.
David's role is similar to that of a mercenary and the leader of the Adventurers' Guild.
So Lux is the information broker, and the others are players.
The greatest benefit of the Shadow Fiend Network to Raine is that it allows him to project his own rules into his private magic network.
It's like turning a standalone game into a local area network, so Lux and David are the "NPCs" he's preparing.
As for who the BOSS is? There are so many gangs in East Harlem, aren't they all just natural monsters?
I got up and went hunting in the wild, it's so sunny!
With that in mind, he turned his gaze to a shelter in Manhattan, New York.
The scene depicts a double room.
Meanwhile, Lux, the homeless girl from before, is taking off her hoodie and bringing it close to her nose.
"vomit!"
This taste is simply amazing.
Fortunately, through her own efforts, she successfully obtained a place in the shelter.
At least until after Christmas, I don't have to worry about being kicked out.
However, they only provide two meals a day, so she still has to figure out how to have lunch.
Moreover, the food was awful.
Lux's room is a double room, but her roommate is neurotic and has been put in solitary confinement, so she's all alone now.
Name: Lux Shaw

[Points Mall: Click to view details]
Recently, in addition to skills, the points mall has also added a lot of physical items, which makes her very envious.
Unfortunately, I can't afford any of them.
"Aha..."
Lying in bed, wearing only underwear and a long shirt, I felt the sheets beneath me smelling of disinfectant.
The smell that used to be unpleasant now feels so comforting.
She likes it here!
Seeing this, Ryan laughed. "You like to enjoy yourself? Then I'll help you enjoy yourself!"
【Ding! 】
The system notification sound startled Lux, who had just been dozing off and snoring.
She opened her eyes, sat up, and opened the system.
[Travel to East Harlem, investigate paranormal cases, record them, and deliver them to the Lexton Bar. Reward: 10 points per case]
Lux's heart skipped a beat. A supernatural case?
Seriously?! System, are you kidding me?!
Is this something a rookie homeless person like her could do?
But I couldn't refuse!
Everything she has today is thanks to the system. What if the system runs away if she doesn't do anything?
She quickly got dressed, got out of bed, and went out.
Unlike the warm shelter, it's very cold outside.
The shelter's elevator was broken again, so she had to climb the stairs from the third floor down.
