Chapter 53 The Flirtatious Lawyer?
"Interview? What interview?"
Walter paused for a moment, then said, "Ms. Catherine's assistant already told me that since you were recommended by Ms. Catherine, there's no need for an interview. I believe in your abilities!"
As he spoke, Walter winked at Irving, giving him a knowing look.
Seeing the other person's expression, Irving suddenly realized what was going on.
It seems the other party misunderstood Luna's meaning... But after a moment, Owen realized that misunderstanding was no big deal, as it wouldn't harm him anyway.
"So it was Luna who did this. Oh well, I'll take a look at the contract first." Owen nodded slightly, his expression calm, and his mood quickly subsided.
He flipped through the contract, intending to check if there were any hidden clauses.
But the next second, he was overwhelmed by all sorts of complicated and difficult-to-understand legal terms.
Unlike other countries, in the United States, almost every professional field has a variety of difficult-to-understand professional terms.
Without elite education or systematic training, ordinary people simply cannot understand these technical terms.
Irving was no exception. Looking at the contract in front of him, which was as obscure and difficult to understand as a book written in heaven, he braced himself and stood up cautiously with a slight smile: "Mr. Walter, you know that I can't sign contracts casually."
"How about this, I'll take it back and have my lawyer take a look. If there are no problems, I'll send someone to deliver the contract to you tomorrow. Is that alright?"
"Of course," Walter readily agreed, extending his hand. "We're having a script reading tomorrow, Mr. Owen. How about we schedule it for 10 a.m. tomorrow?"
"10 o'clock?" Irving asked, puzzled.
"Yes, 10 o'clock. That's just after the script reading, so we can meet with the director and the lead actress, have dinner together, and build some rapport," Walter explained.
"As you know, the production period for this movie is very short, only a little over a month. Building rapport beforehand will help speed up the process."
"OK, I'm fine with it." Irving nodded.
After exchanging a few pleasantries, Irving declined the offer to see him off and left in a hurry.
As soon as he stepped out of the financial building, Irving quickly took out his phone and sent a message to James.
Kyrie Irving: Dude, I need your help urgently! Do you know any lawyers or legal professionals? I need someone to take a look at a contract!
After sending the message, Irving took a deep breath.
Only then did my tense mind relax.
To be honest, he originally wanted to just find any law firm to translate the contract.
But when he went downstairs to wait for the elevator, he casually searched for the prices of legal services and immediately gave up the idea.
Goodness, in Miami, even a newly licensed lawyer can charge $200 per hour for a consultation!
Some experienced lawyers can charge over $500 per hour for consultations.
Irving reluctantly found a law firm online, briefly explained his needs, and inquired about their prices.
They were surprised to see that the other party was willing to quote $1000 for even a simple contract translation.
Irving immediately cursed.
$1000? That's enough for him to live it up all day at the "King of Diamonds" club!
Just by simply describing the true meaning of the contract, they can quote such a high price. Irving couldn't help but marvel at how the legal profession is one of the most lucrative in America.
Just as Irving was cursing, his phone suddenly started vibrating.
James: Lawyers? Those vampires only know how to collect money all day long. I don't want to deal with them.
Irving was about to say thank you when he turned off his phone.
Just then, James sent another message.
James: Although I don't know any lawyers, I do know a law student in Miami. He's not a lawyer yet, but his skills are top-notch. If you just need to translate a contract, he's all you need.
Irving: Thanks so much, buddy. Could you give me his contact information?
James: Of course!
A short while later, Irving received a phone number.
James: Bro, you're welcome. I forgot to tell you, I got my $7000 payment back!! I should be thanking you!
James: I won't say anything more. Just come over in the next couple of days when you have some free time, and I'll treat you to a big meal! I'll also give you the payment I promised you.
Irving: OK!
After ending the chat, Irving contacted a legal professional James knew, quickly arranged a time and place, and then took a bus to the University of Miami.
One hour later.
At the University of Miami School of Law, Irving stood in front of a fountain, looking around at the students passing by.
"Hello, are you James' friend, Kyrie Irving who asked me for help?" A slightly high-pitched Black male student walked up to Irving.
Seeing that Irving was indeed as James described—handsome and a full 185 cm tall—the black male student nodded secretly, feeling that he hadn't made a mistake.
"I'm John Goode, a law graduate student at the University of Miami. You can call me John or Goode. Hey buddy, you're pretty handsome, how about we grab a drink tonight?"
Seeing Irving staring at him with a puzzled look, showing no intention of shaking hands, Goode laughed and said, "I was just kidding, don't be so nervous."
"I know you're joking, but we've only just met. Is it a bit inappropriate to test the waters so directly?" Owen frowned, still not extending his hand, and said seriously.
Good shrugged dismissively and walked toward a bench not far away: "Dude, don't make such a fuss. I'm not gay. I'm just trying to lighten the mood. Since you know James, you should know that most of us black people can take this kind of joke."
"But I'm not Black, buddy. Making jokes like that on our first meeting doesn't liven things up. It just makes people question your sexual orientation." Owen frowned subconsciously when he saw Goode lounging on the bench, looking like a street urchin.
Although the other party seemed unreliable, out of trust in James, Irving still took out the contract from his backpack and handed it to the other party.
"I think James has already told you about the specific requirements," Irving said simply, gesturing. "Take a look at the contract first, and then tell me if there are any clauses that are unfavorable to the other party."
"No problem, buddy!" Goode took the contract and nodded.
Irving wasn't sure if it was just his imagination, but he felt that the other person's street gang vibe vanished instantly after taking the contract, and his expression became extremely serious.
What a flamboyant lawyer!
Indeed, Black people who study law are truly capable.
