Reborn in America: I Have an Equipment Slot
Chapter 20 The Bet
"Hello, Jimmy McGill, partner at HHM law firm, and a former professional boxing scout for five years."
Upon hearing the other person's self-introduction, Irving raised an eyebrow and quickly stood up to shake hands with the lawyer, Jimmy.
Having worked as a scout, studied law, and eventually became a lawyer, this lawyer Jimmy is clearly a highly educated individual!
"Hey Jimmy, this is the top boxer I just discovered. What do you think... If everything's okay, hurry up and get the contract out so we can sign him!"
Hudson called the waiter to bring drinks, and then pulled Jimmy to sit down.
"Hey, calm down, Hudson." Jimmy stopped Hudson from searching for the contract, glanced at Irving's handsome face, and advised:
"You don't think you can satisfy those picky viewers by just finding any Asian person who can fight, do you?"
"Come on, Jimmy! Chinese kung fu!" Hudson raised his fists and gestured at the air in front of him, retorting:
"In America, no one can refuse kung fu."
"Don't be ridiculous, Hudson." Jimmy shook his head and denied it. "Fighting in the ring is different from fighting in the street. Even if you know kung fu, it's hard to beat a boxer with systematic training. Let alone winning, you'd be considered good if you could last a few moves."
"I think so too, Hudson. Shouldn't we reconsider?"
Bourne, who was standing to the side, was also persuaded by Jimmy and began to hesitate.
"You don't know Bruce Lee? Real kung fu is way better than any of that crap boxing!" Hudson retorted.
"But that was in the 1960s..."
"Hey Jimmy, listen up, I'm the boss, the biggest investor in the bar, and I'm the one who makes the final decisions."
Hudson shook his head, his expression unusually firm: "Now, get that damn contract ready for me. I need to sign this Chinese boxing champion before the other clubs find out."
Jimmy opened his mouth, intending to try and persuade him further, but after hearing what Hudson said, he stopped talking and reluctantly took out the drafted contract.
"Irving, you can take a look at the terms. With Jimmy here, you can raise any issues you're not satisfied with, and we can modify them at any time before signing." Hudson picked up the contract and placed it in front of Irving.
Irving nodded, preparing to flip through the pages.
But at that moment...
With a loud "bang!"
The restaurant door was kicked open.
Four or five young men with chains and filthy braids walked in.
"Hey gentlemen, didn't anyone tell you that you need to make a reservation to enter our restaurant?"
Sensing something was wrong, a male waiter stepped forward to stop them, waving at the black men to drive them away.
Unexpectedly, the group showed no fear and simply pushed the waiter aside.
"Look closely, kid, we're not here to eat!"
"Get out of the way, buddy! If you block my way again, I'll beat you up!"
The sudden commotion immediately attracted the attention of everyone in the restaurant, including Irving and his friends.
A few young Black men looked around, and their eyes lit up the moment they saw Irving. He had an Asian face, was reasonably good-looking, and was wearing a white T-shirt and beach shorts. He was sitting in the center of the front of the stage...
After confirming that all the characteristics matched, the group turned to look at each other, immediately threw their cigarette butts on the ground and stomped them out, then quickly surrounded them.
Upon seeing this, several diners sitting next to Irving quickly stood up and moved aside, fearing they would be implicated.
"Hey buddy, I heard you're pretty good. We'd like to see what you're made of!"
"Do you choose to do it here, or do you choose to go outside?"
Several black men surrounded Irving's table, ignoring Hudson, Jimmy, and Byrne beside him, staring intently at Irving with hostile expressions.
"That's hilarious. A bunch of homeless people are trying to provoke and fight like gangsters. These days, you see all sorts of people." Owen laughed, completely ignoring their provocation.
Sitting to the side, Hudson looked at the five young-looking black men in front of him, let out a loud burp, and chuckled:
"Owen, don't say that. Homeless people aren't that stupid. Only some dim-witted black people would do that."
"Haha, Hudson, you're so mean..." Jimmy and Bourne, who were sitting next to him, couldn't help but laugh.
"What did you say? Dude! That's discrimination! Say it again if you dare!" A black man couldn't hold back his emotions, slammed his hand on the table, and pointed his finger aggressively at Hudson.
"What? You still want to fight? You can try here!"
Hudson slapped the dirty hand away from the young black man, stood up without saying a word, and lifted the corner of his shirt.
Upon seeing the Sig Sauer-P365 pistol tucked into the other man's waist, the black men's minds, which had been filled with leaves, instantly cleared.
They immediately raised their hands and took a step back in unison.
"Hey buddy, don't be impulsive! We're not here to cause you trouble..."
"Yes, yes, yes, we're looking for this Asian man."
Emboldened by his weapon, Hudson became incredibly arrogant. He stood up and poked each of the men with his finger, saying, "Whoever you're looking for, get out of here!"
The group of Black men turned and looked at each other before turning to leave.
"Wait!" Irving stood up and slowly put down the contract in his hand:
"Since you want to see what I've got, then wait outside."
Irving glanced at the group of young Black men, giving them a general idea of what they were like.
I felt that the other person's figure was just so-so, probably none of them weighed more than 150 pounds, so they were easy to handle.
Irving turned to Hudson. "How about we make a bet, Hudson?"
"A bet?" Hudson paused slightly, "What kind of bet?"
"I'll use one hand. Let these five black men come at me all at once. If even one of them manages to hit me, I lose." Irving smiled slightly and looked at Hudson:
"If I win, the contract will be revised. If I win ten consecutive games, I will get 30% of the tavern's shares. I have the right to terminate the contract at any time."
"What?" Before Hudson could speak, Bourne, sitting next to him, immediately objected: "Impossible, Owen, you're too greedy..."
"Shut up, Bourne!"
Before Bourne could finish speaking, Hudson waved his hand, took a deep breath, stood up, and looked at Owen, a shrewd glint in his eyes: "And what if you lose?"
Irving shrugged, looking nonchalant, and said, "If I lose, I don't want the shares or dividends. You just need to pay me the basic prize money for the game."
As soon as he finished speaking, Hudson slammed his hand on the table.
"OK! You said it, buddy!" Hudson winked at Jimmy, then pursed his lips, almost bursting out laughing.
Although he genuinely believed that Irving was quite skilled and might even be a kung fu player.
But how can you face five Black men with one hand and not get attacked at all?
Unless Bruce Lee were alive, not even a professional boxer would dare to guarantee that he could do it.
Sure enough, young people are prone to impulsiveness.
