Reborn in America: I Have an Equipment Slot
Chapter 11 American Women
"Sorry, I'm not doing this. You should find someone else."
Irving refused directly and decisively, without the slightest hesitation.
"$2000!"
James gritted his teeth and continued to raise the price.
But Irving remained unmoved.
Seeing Irving walk to the stairs, James shouted out in distress, "$3000, that's the most I can give you!"
Kyrie, if you can get the final payment back and do me this favor, we'll be friends from now on, okay?
"If you ever encounter any trouble in the future, and need me to help you with anything, I will consider it."
Upon hearing James's words, Irving immediately stopped in his tracks, somewhat tempted.
To be honest, what he valued wasn't the $3000 reward he would receive after the final payment, but rather James's friendship.
I had only been in Miami for a few days. Although I was very familiar with Miami, I didn't know many people there.
If I can actually get the final payment back and help James out, then if I encounter any problems in the future, I can ask him for help as well.
"Okay, I agree to help..."
After careful consideration, Irving turned to James and said, "However, let me make this clear first: I can only say I'll do my best, and I can't guarantee when it will succeed."
"Great! You said it yourself, Kyrie!" James was beaming with joy, immediately putting his arm around Kyrie's shoulder, his face full of enthusiasm.
"It's alright, there's no rush. As long as you get your money back, I'll not only give you a $3000 reward, but I'll also help you apply for a Social Security number and take care of those immigration officials. How about that?"
"make a deal!"
……
After leaving Leo's secondhand shop.
Irving randomly picked a clothing store and spent a whopping $50 to buy a short-sleeved T-shirt and beach shorts.
After tidying up a bit, he glanced at the time and then headed towards Tina's residence.
In the afternoon, he had already promised Tina that he would help her solve the problem.
Fortunately, I can stay at their place tonight, saving me from sleeping under a bridge.
Owen hummed a little tune and walked for half an hour before arriving at Tina's place.
After a knock on the door, a blonde, blue-eyed girl wearing black-rimmed glasses opened it.
"Excuse me, is Tina there?" Owen glanced at the girl, paused for a moment, and quickly asked.
"Tina, someone's looking for you!"
Before meeting, the handsome guy had come to see Tina. The blonde girl immediately pursed her lips and turned to leave.
"Here you are!" Tina jogged out of the kitchen, and seeing Owen arrive on time, she simply smiled and waved.
"Irving, you've come at the perfect time. I've prepared some dishes from your hometown. Come and try them to see if they suit your taste."
"These are my hometown dishes?" Irving glanced at the four steaming, uniquely presented dishes on the table and was immediately dumbfounded.
"Yes, these are all big meals that I painstakingly bought from a nearby Chinese restaurant, specially for you to eat well and replenish your energy."
Tina turned and went back to the kitchen, bringing the dishes to the communal dining table in the living room.
"What is this?"
"Sesame chicken," Tina said after glancing at it.
"Isn't this just sweet and sour pork with a few pieces of broccoli...?"
Irving's lips twitched.
"What about this one?"
"Mongolian beef."
"And what is this?"
Orange Chicken.
"What about the rest of the soup? Italian mushroom soup?"
"No, that's called hot and sour soup."
Irving sat in the chair, hesitated for a moment, and finally picked up a chicken nugget and put it in his mouth. It was so sweet that he thought he had eaten a piece of candy.
"How is it? Delicious, right?"
Seeing the smile on Owen's face, Tina smiled and said, "I've looked into it. Apart from General Tso's Chicken, these dishes are the most popular in Chinese restaurants."
However, I previously heard a Chinese person say that General Tso's Chicken is not a Chinese dish.
That's why I specifically ordered these.
Seeing Tina's sweet smile, Owen swallowed the chicken nugget and forced a smile onto his face.
I have no idea who invented these so-called Chinese delicacies!
Each one has a stronger flavor than the last!
It's either too sweet or too sour.
Irving shoveled a couple of mouthfuls of rice into his mouth, realizing for the first time that eating could be so painful.
Watching Tina eat with relish, Owen even wondered for a moment if there was something wrong with his sense of taste.
After serving another bowl of hot and sour soup, Tina noticed that Owen had put down his knife and fork and wasn't moving. She looked puzzled and asked, "Owen, why aren't you eating?"
"Is there any bread left in the fridge? This Chinese food is awful."
"I think it tastes pretty good."
Tina shrugged, but seeing that Owen had already started rinsing his mouth, she stood up, took two pieces of bread from the refrigerator, spread some butter on them, and handed them to Owen.
"Thanks." Owen took a big bite of his bread, then let out a long sigh and muttered:
"Tina, did you know that the Chinese restaurants in America don't actually serve Chinese food? There are many different kinds of real Chinese food, and many of them only require simple cooking to bring out the best flavor of the ingredients themselves."
It's a million times tastier than those sesame chicken, Mongolian beef, orange chicken, and so on!
"I really want to try authentic Chinese food if I have the chance."
Listening to Owen's description, Tina was eager to try it, but after a moment she realized that if Owen didn't eat it, she wouldn't be able to finish it herself.
"Irving, what do we do now? These Chinese dishes are really expensive. Mongolian beef is $20 a serving, and sesame chicken is $15 a plate. I've already spent $63 on these dishes. Are we just going to skip them?"
"Sorry, Tina, I'd rather eat these slices of bread." Owen shrugged, his attitude resolute.
"How about I call Ayesha over to eat with us?" Tina suggested.
"Ayesha?"
"The one you just met, she's my roommate, a poor girl who got depressed because she was dumped."
Tina sighed.
She developed depression after the breakup? What a rare, devoted woman in America! Owen was somewhat surprised.
"I think we should pass. If Ayesha comes out and sees the two of us...wouldn't she be even more heartbroken?"
Owen glanced at Tina's room, a slight apprehension on his part.
"Why are you sad?" Tina asked, puzzled.
"Ayesha is attracted to girls, not boys."
Irving: "..."
Seeing Owen's lips twitch, indicating some confusion, Tina continued to explain:
"Ayesha and the girl were very much in love. They not only got tattoos of each other's names, but also agreed to leave here and get married in Europe once they had saved enough money."
"Then why did they break up?" Owen asked, puzzled.
"Because the girl's family objected."
Tina sighed, her eyes reddening with empathy: "If it weren't for that girl's family threatening suicide, the two of them wouldn't have separated."
"Okay, so it's her parents who disagree?"
Tina shook her head.
"Then it must be that the girl's older siblings don't agree, right?"
"No, it's not that; it's that her husband won't allow it!"
"..."
