Li Ran pushed open the bedroom door.
Wang Churan lay on the bed, leaning against the headboard, holding her phone, scrolling through videos with a blank expression, revealing no emotion whatsoever.
She heard the door open, glanced at him, then continued scrolling through her phone without saying a word.
Li Ran walked over and sat down next to her.
After a two-second silence, Li Ran slowly asked, "Does it hurt?"
Wang Churan simply rolled her eyes, in her usual standard way, as if she were scolding someone.
What do you think?
Her tone was icy. "Don't tell me you haven't been hit by her. That time she came in and hit you on the head, you must have gotten a lot of beatings, right?"
Li Ran gave an awkward laugh.
She was right. Xiaotian is indeed the type to resort to violence at the slightest provocation, but this time she was clearly emotional and hit harder than usual.
He reached out and pulled Wang Churan into his arms.
Wang Churan didn't struggle, but she didn't lean closer either. She just stayed in the same position, letting him hold her, her eyes still fixed on her phone screen.
"Okay, don't be angry."
Li Ran said in a very soft voice, "Xiao Tian didn't do it on purpose. But..."
He paused, carefully choosing his words: "Could you try to stop rolling your eyes?"
Wang Churan finally raised her head and looked at him.
"Heh," she sneered.
"It wasn't intentional? It wasn't you who got hit."
She paused, then added, "I'm used to rolling my eyes; it's an unconscious habit. I can't change it."
She looked at Li Ran with an expression that said, "What can you do to me?"
Li Ran said helplessly, "So you still want to fight back?"
He wasn't feeling sorry for anyone, but in terms of combat strength, although Wang Churan was half a head taller than Xiaotian, he really didn't think she could win in a real fight.
Upon hearing this, Wang Churan's lips twitched slightly: "Are you willing to part with it?"
Li Ran was stumped by her question.
He chuckled awkwardly, trying to steer the conversation back on track: "Now let's talk about you rolling your eyes."
Wang Churan snorted coldly, wriggling slightly out of his arms, and glared at him: "You're still biased towards her. I'm the one who got beaten up, okay?"
Li Ran quickly pulled her back, his tone softening even more: "Okay, okay, I'll have her apologize to you later, alright?"
Wang Churan scoffed, "You make it sound like she'd listen to you."
She was silent for a few seconds, then suddenly sighed, her tone carrying a hint of resigned helplessness: "Oh well. What can I do? She's my senior at the Shanghai Theatre Academy. I can only swallow this bitter pill."
Li Ran was stunned for a moment.
He didn't expect her to soften so quickly; given her dramatic personality, he thought he would have to coax her for ages.
Li Ran tentatively asked, "You're not angry anymore?"
Wang Churan snorted coldly, "Are you angry? But I still have to give you face! You're the one caught in the middle."
"I'm not like her. I'll feel sorry for you."
Li Ran smiled and thought, "Alright, it's still that same 'Porridge Sister,' still stirring things up."
However, he still comforted her, saying, "I knew it, you're the best."
Wang Churan reached out and pulled his head close, smiling as she said, "Here's a reward for you!"
Li Ran let her hug him and kissed him on the cheek.
He paused, then said, "In the future... could you control the urge to roll your eyes?"
Wang Churan looked at him with suspicion, waiting for him to continue.
"It's alright now," Li Ran continued, "but once you gain fame and get photographed, netizens will tear you apart."
Wang Churan pursed her lips and didn't say anything.
After a few seconds, she nodded slightly. "Okay, I understand."
She nudged him, "Go out, I want to be alone for a while."
Li Ran looked at her, suddenly smiled, and leaned down to kiss her on the cheek.
"You're still the best behaved."
Wang Churan wanted to roll her eyes, but then seemed to suddenly remember something and forcibly withdrew them, turning into an awkward expression.
"Alright, go check on her!"
Li Ran smiled, got up, and walked out of the bedroom.
In the living room, Tian Xiwei was squatting by the sofa, playing with Douzai's toys. Stay tuned to Peach Blossom Jasmine, Cola Novels, and every update of "Hua Yu: Starting from Retirement, Sweeping Through the Domestic Entertainment Industry".
The little guy was amused and jumped around, wagging his little tail like a propeller.
She heard footsteps and looked up.
"You've calmed him down so quickly?" she asked, a hint of surprise in her voice.
Li Ran didn't reply, but sat down next to her.
Tian Xiwei lowered her head again to continue playing with the dog, and casually said, "The takeout is here, hurry up and eat."
Li Ran opened the new takeout box on the coffee table, and while eating, asked, "How do you have my address? You didn't ask me."
"I asked the auntie."
Tian Xiwei said matter-of-factly, "I originally wanted to give you a surprise, but it seems to have turned into a shock."
Li Ran chuckled awkwardly, "No, I'm glad you came."
Tian Xiwei ignored him and fixed her gaze on Douzai: "Is this your junior's dog?"
Li Ran nodded: "She went to film a movie, I'll take care of her for a few days."
"Are you together?"
Li Ran paused in her chopsticks movement. "Hmm... how did you know?"
Tian Xiwei pursed her lips: "Intuition. Just like you and Hu Lianxin, I could tell something was off at first glance."
Li Ran smiled helplessly: "Your intuition is really accurate. You even guessed it was just a photo opportunity with Wang Churan."
Tian Xiwei didn't respond to that question, but instead asked directly, "So how many are there now?"
Li Ran thought about it and felt there was no need to hide it from her.
"I'll add six to your list."
She counted to four, looked up at him, and asked, "Who else?"
Li Ran turned to look at her, then smiled awkwardly: "Liu Haocun from the last movie."
Tian Xiwei glared at him.
The look in his eyes... how should I put it? It was as if he could rush into the kitchen, grab a cleaver, and chop him up right away.
"Li Ran!"
She spoke, her voice icy cold, "You really want to be emperor, don't you?"
Li Ran chuckled awkwardly and retorted in a low voice, "That's not many, is it? The emperor had three thousand concubines in his harem, and I only have six."
Tian Xiwei gritted her teeth, looked at him, and said, "I'll give you a six-point advantage!"
She reached out and punched him hard in the back.
A muffled "bang" was heard.
Li Ran coughed in pain.
Tian Xiwei continued to glare at him, "Why don't you mention that even emperors practiced monogamy?"
Li Ran rubbed his back and quickly explained, "The others can only be Imperial Concubines, you are the Empress."
Tian Xiwei was stunned for a moment.
Then she snorted coldly, but her expression softened slightly.
"No more! Otherwise I'll tell Auntie and she'll teach you a lesson."
Li Ran muttered to himself, "The key is that my mom knows!"
He smiled, pulled her into his arms, and asked, "I know. If six people are already embroiled in palace intrigue every day, even three thousand wouldn't be enough for me!"
He paused, then continued, "What do you usually talk about with the Empress Dowager?"
Remembering what Li's mother had said, Tian Xiwei looked at him and her lips twitched: "You don't need to worry about that."
She stood up, straightened her clothes, and said, "Alright, you eat your food. I'm going to go talk to her."
Li Ran was taken aback: "Give me some face, could you please not beat Consort Wang?"
Tian Xiwei was amused by his use of the pronoun "朕" (zhen, meaning "I, the emperor").
She tried to keep a straight face, but a slight smile still appeared at the corners of her mouth: "Alright, I'll give you, His Majesty, face. I'll just have a chat with her."
After saying that, she turned and walked towards the bedroom.
Li Ran watched her retreating figure and shook his head.
Once Xiaotian agrees, she won't do anything. But if she wants to, she won't even bother with you and will just go for it.
Getting her to agree not to take action is already the best possible outcome.
He lowered his head and continued eating his takeout.
Douzi came over and stared longingly at the food in his hand. Li Ran tore off a small piece of meat for it, and the little guy chewed happily.
The bedroom door was closed.
It was very quiet inside; you couldn't hear a sound.
