"This is good." Ji Tong nodded first, a knowing smile on his face. "It's reliable."

"That's right, a steady and gradual approach!" Cheng Zhixing echoed.

The intense light that had been shining on Kobayashi and the others also dimmed, replaced by a more thoughtful expression.

"Alright," Chen Bainian picked up his water glass, ending the conversation. "Hurry up and eat. We still have work to do this afternoon. Our 'longevity' must begin with the first line of code and the first sketch in front of us."

The afternoon sun shone warmly into the office, and the sound of keyboards began again, this time with a quieter, more resonant force than in the morning.

Chen Bainian sat back down at his workstation, where the screen displayed the initial framework of the new project.

He glanced at the young people in the corner who were enthusiastically discussing "Global Watch," and then looked at the simple logo of "Longevity Games Studio" on his screen.

In the afternoon, the only sounds in the office were the tapping of keyboards and occasional hushed discussions.

Chen Bainian had just finalized the basic architecture of the new project with the programming team when he returned to his workstation and found a furry thing brushing past his feet.

The reason Chen Bainian brought the "big brother" to the company was because both of them had to work during the day.

A kitten that is just over two months old still needs to be fed during the day, so it's not good to leave it alone at home.

This little black dumpling slipped out of the general manager's office at some point; it probably followed him out when he came out after talking to someone about work.

It was circling around his feet with its tail held high, as if surveying its new territory.

"How did you end up out here?" Chen Bainian chuckled softly, bending down to scratch his older brother's chin.

The cat tilted its head back comfortably, purring softly, prompting Cheng Zhixing, sitting next to it, to lean over and tease, "Boss, shouldn't our company learn from those big companies and give our 'Big Brother' an employee badge too?"

"But we need to have employee badges, right?" Chen Bainian said irritably.

The company currently has only this many employees, so there is no need to produce employee badges.

He handed some boiled chicken breast that he had prepared that morning to his "elder brother".

It immediately came over and started taking small bites.

Chen Bainian casually snapped a few photos of it squatting next to its workstation, licking its paws, and sent them to Jiang Yiting: "The little guy seems to be settling in quite well here today."

A moment later, I received a reply from Jiang Yiting: "This is to supervise the progress of your new game on my behalf."

Chen Bainian replied with a smile, "The construction is progressing smoothly."

Looking up, I saw my older brother had jumped onto his desk, curled up in a ball, and was taking a nap, just like he usually does at home.

Sunlight streamed through the window, casting shadows on it and creating an atmosphere that felt strangely relaxed and homey.

As it was nearing the end of the workday, Chen Bainian checked the time, packed his things, put his older brother into the cat carrier, and said to his colleagues still at their desks, "Go home early when you're done with your work, and have a good weekend. The last brother to leave, remember to turn off the lights and lock the door."

The sound wasn't loud, but it carried clearly throughout the open office area.

"Old Chen is right, there's never enough work to be done. I'm off, see you Monday." Xu Haoran also immediately shut down his computer, grabbed his coat, and did so swiftly.

Seeing this, Ji Tong smiled and stood up as well: "Alright, I'll be leaving then. Have a great weekend, everyone."

After the three people left, the office did not immediately become empty.

The remaining people focused for another ten minutes or so, then saved their files and shut down their machines.

Cheng Zhixing was the last one. He carefully checked the windows and power supply, making sure all the equipment was turned off, before turning off the lights and locking the door securely.

The early spring evening breeze carried a hint of coolness, but it couldn't dispel the sense of security and warmth brought about by the team's initial cohesion.

After this ordinary yet fulfilling first day, Changshou Game Studio quietly blended into the city's rush hour after get off work.

"Come on, let's go back to the neighborhood first," Chen Bainian said to Xu Haoran beside him. "Didn't you ask me to keep an eye out for apartments nearby? There's a suitable one that's available now, and the landlord is free today. I'll take you to see it."

"Great! That's exactly what I was worried about. Thanks, Old Chen!" Xu Haoran's eyes lit up.

The two took a bus back to the residential area where Chen Bainian lived.

The house viewing went smoothly. The layout, lighting, and rent all met Xu Haoran's needs, and the commute to his company was convenient. He immediately finalized his intention with the landlord.

"All done! Old Chen, I'm so grateful, I have to treat you tonight, let's go for some skewers! We'll drink until we drop!" Xu Haoran was in a great mood and patted Chen Bainian's shoulder hard.

"Some other time." Chen Bainian glanced at the darkening sky, his tone casual yet carrying a hint of unyielding authority. "I still have some things to take care of at home. Why don't you stop by my place for a bit, have a drink of water?"

"Sure, this will be a good opportunity to familiarize myself with the place!" Xu Haoran didn't think much of it and happily followed Chen Bainian upstairs.

As soon as we entered the house, the eldest cat nimbly slipped out of its open carrier, trotted over to its food bowl as if no one else was there, pawed at the empty bowl a few times, and then let out a soft "meow" at Chen Bainian, as if urging, "Human, where's the food?"

Chen Bainian seemed to be used to it. While skillfully opening a can of food for his cat, he pointed to the sofa with his chin and said to Xu Haoran, "Sit wherever you like. The water is on the table, help yourself."

Xu Haoran didn't stand on ceremony. He poured himself a glass of water, looked around the clean and tidy studio apartment, and finally his gaze fell on the several thriving green plants on the balcony. He secretly praised Old Chen for being quite good at managing his life.

The two sat on the sofa, chatting about the progress of the studio's projects during the day.

Just as Xu Haoran was getting excited and gesturing towards his famous idea—

"Click".

A very faint yet clear sound of a key turning in a lock came from the doorway.

Immediately afterward, before the two people inside could react, the door was pushed open with a creak.

A familiar female voice, tinged with a languid quality and an undeniable air of authority, drifted in through the crack in the open door like a gust of wind: "Little brother! Are you home yet? I'm starving! What are we having for dinner tonight? I saw some nice braised vegetables on my way back, so I bought some..."

The words came to an abrupt halt.

Carrying an eco-friendly shopping bag and dressed in comfortable casual clothes, Jiang Yiting had just stepped over the threshold when she froze in the entryway as if she had been frozen in place.

The relaxed expression on her face, which was ready to give a scathing critique and order food, froze instantly, and her beautiful peach blossom eyes widened in surprise.

His gaze first fell in surprise on Xu Haoran, who was also looking bewildered and had his mouth slightly open on the sofa, and then suddenly turned to Chen Bainian, who was walking out from the direction of the kitchen after hearing the noise.

The air seemed to freeze at that moment.

Even the eldest brother, who was enjoying his meal, stopped chewing and curiously tilted his head to look at the doorway.

Jiang Yiting's brain clearly experienced a brief malfunction; her hand, still holding the door key, was raised in mid-air, unsure whether to go forward or backward.

A hint of embarrassment flashed across her face, but "Brother Lou's" instincts allowed her to quickly regain her composure, replacing the awkwardness with a bright, almost exaggerated smile:

"Oh—oh! We have a guest!" Her voice rose eight octaves, tinged with a sudden, enthusiastic realization. "Excuse me, excuse me! I...I...I came to borrow something! Yes, borrow something!"
