Frilian: This Demon Isn't So Cold
Chapter 43 From Now On, Believe in the Goddess
"Your apprentice seems quite happy now," Celia said, looking at Vlame. "She asked you that question too?"
Although he didn't say what it was, Vlamé nodded:
"Master, do you have a solution?"
"He didn't even ask me."
"So is there a way?"
"No." Celia's tone remained unchanged. "This problem no longer belongs to the realm of magic. Even if there is a solution, it should be within the realm of the goddess."
"Goddess?" Vlamé repeated the word, asking with some curiosity, "Do goddesses really exist?"
She knew that Celia was a magician who had survived from the age of mythology, so she was looking forward to her answer.
"I don't know," Celia replied very briefly.
"But since the goddess's holy book is genuine, then the goddess must still exist, right?" Vlamé didn't seem to mind this answer.
"See, you already know the answer to this question in your heart, so why ask me again?"
Seria looked at Carlos again. "Did you hear that? I don't have any magic here to help you."
"I heard you," Carlos replied.
Sylvia could feel the hand stroking her head pause for a moment, though it was brief and fleeting, almost like an illusion, but she would never miss it.
She moved back slightly and rested her head on Carlos's chest.
"I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do to help."
"I never intended to ask for your help," Carlos said.
Sylvia joked, "So you mean you never had any expectations of me?"
"Why do you think I would have expectations of you?" Carlos's tone was somewhat helpless. "Or are you a hidden monk, a follower of the goddess?"
"I can be," she said. "From the very beginning, I was determined to remain devout to the goddess."
"Why?" The words came faster than his thoughts, and by the time Carlos realized what was happening, he had already spoken.
"Because I hope that the goddess can respond to me so that I can solve the problems that exist in you."
Sylvia pulled away from his embrace, crossed her hands over her chest, and silently closed her eyes.
"To worship a goddess in order to receive something in return is not devout at all."
Even so, Carlos followed suit and did the same thing as Sylvia.
They believe the goddess will forgive their impolite faith.
After all, she's a goddess.
……
"Sorry to bother you."
Having learned from her master that her grandmaster was about to finish reading the magic books here, Sylvia seized the opportunity and visited Frilian's parents while she was away from home.
"I remember your name is Sylvia, right? This is your first time here. Is there something you need?"
Unlike Frilian, her parents had a certain ability to perceive the atmosphere around them.
"You can't hide anything from you after all," Sylvia said with a slight bow. "Do you remember when Ms. Frilian advised you to leave?"
"Of course I remember." The female elf smiled at her. "We don't mind, but it feels irresponsible to the others if only we leave... I'm sorry, we are too weak and have made you worry."
Her voice is gentle, which makes people feel good about her without them even realizing it.
Sylvia shook her head repeatedly and quickly said, "I actually came here to tell you something."
Afterwards, she relayed Carlos's idea to them.
In other words, as long as Frilian joins their team, he is willing to expend a great deal of effort to cast spells here to protect the village.
"I see... What do you think?" The female elf looked at Frilian's father. "I personally agree. Frilian is very talented in magic. It would be a waste for her to stay here with us. Fortunately, there is an elf in that party who is good at magic."
The male elf didn't speak, he just nodded.
"That's good." Frilian's mother smiled at Sylvia. "Thank you for telling me. I'll be responsible for talking to the child about it later."
Please.
Sylvie certainly hopes that things will stay this way.
Moreover, since Frilian had helped her, even though it was unintentional, she wanted to do something to repay her.
That evening, when Frilian returned home, she was met with a combined gaze from her parents, and her mother gently conveyed Sylvia's thoughts to her.
The mother was the dominant one at home, while the father was always silent, but the meaning conveyed by his gaze was all too clear.
"I am proud to have given birth to a daughter like you, but that is precisely why I cannot let you continue to waste time with us here."
Her mother's words were always gentle, yet they made Frillie's nose sting with tears.
"No, Mom, I want to stay with you forever." Hearing that they wanted her to leave, Frillie buried her head in her mother's arms and cried softly.
Her mother gently stroked her hair. "You've grown up now, it's time for you to go out and explore. And didn't we just talk about it? That guy named Carlos will set up magic to defend us against the demons, so you won't have to worry about our safety."
"That's not how it is, that's not how it is..." Frillie kept shaking her head.
"Do you want us to be the ones holding you back?"
Her mother's voice hardened, and Frilian knew she was truly angry now. "The demons aren't going to attack anytime soon. By the time you return after your training, they might not even make a move. Besides, since there are other safeguards left for us, why can't you go there and use your talents?"
As she spoke, her voice softened again:
"When we meet again later, you might like your mom even more."
However, Frilian did not answer; she just kept crying and crying until she gradually fell asleep in her mother's arms.
"She really likes you," the father said.
"Who told you to be so clueless about how to raise children? Of course, Frillie prefers me," the mother laughed. "Go to bed, I'll stay here with her."
……
The following day, Frillie was kicked out of the house by her mother, who was exhausted after a long night's work.
Her eyes were still red when she got to Celia.
"I...I've come to become your apprentice," Frilian said, turning her head away somewhat reluctantly.
"I won't accept it," Celia replied without turning her head, continuing to look at the magic book in front of her.
"Eh?"
Frillie hadn't expected such an answer. She thought Celia liked taking on apprentices, especially since she already had two apprentices here, and that's what her parents had told her.
Why did the plot turn out differently than I imagined?
As a result, Frilian cried again.
