Frilian: This Demon Isn't So Cold
Chapter 38 Going Out to Find Food
"Hmm...this won't work at all."
"This one is a bit off."
"This is very well made, but the flavor is a bit bland."
After finishing their first practice of the day, the elves stood quietly in a row, while Frilian sat in her seat and commented on the food they had served one by one.
"Cooking also requires talent." Carlos looked at them, then pointed at a few people, "You, you, you, and you, if you want to give up, you should do it now. You don't have the talent for this. You should invest your time in something more worthwhile."
While others had already mastered the skill, these four elves were still stuck in the same place.
Carlos felt that being a foodie was better than continuing to work hard in a place where he was completely unskilled.
"I will keep trying." One of them was inexplicably ignited with fighting spirit, while the other three left feeling slightly dejected.
"Whatever you want." Carlos had no particular thoughts about the elf who stayed behind; if the other wanted to continue learning, then so be it.
Then it was his turn to cook, while the other talented and hardworking elves stood by and watched.
The world of magic is truly wondrous. Carlos uses [Flight Magic] and [Fire Magic], and controls the latter with unparalleled precision.
The size, temperature, and shape of the flames can all be controlled according to the magician's will.
Therefore, to be a good chef here, one must not only have excellent culinary skills, but also a certain level of magical prowess.
While elves cannot use [flight magic], they do have [magic to make objects float], which, although not as convenient as the former, is more than enough for processing ingredients.
"Aren't you tired of eating it yet?"
After finishing his work, Carlos wiped non-existent sweat from his brow and asked Frilian with some puzzlement.
Strictly speaking, his cooking skills weren't that great, but the elves ate so badly that they unanimously considered him a master chef, despite his mediocre abilities.
It's truly a case of "when the cat's away, the mice will play."
"You seem to be enjoying yourself too, don't you?" Frilian always saw Carlos smiling after he finished his work.
"I just feel a little unworthy," Carlos shook his head slightly, then smiled and said, "The seasonings I have on me can last a while, but the food is all gone, so I'll have to go hunting this afternoon to replenish it."
The seasonings that were supposed to be prepared for only four people have been used up until now, not only because he bought a lot, but also because there aren't many elves in this village. At most, there aren't even 30 people, so the village is quite small.
When it came to hunting, Frilian and Sylvie would usually accompany him.
The latter came on her own initiative, while the former was asked by Carlos, since Seria and Vlame didn't have much free time.
As for the reason... Carlos really didn't dare to be alone with Sylvia; something bad could really happen!
It would be much better if other people were present; it would also be a good opportunity for them to hone their magical skills.
"Going out again..." Frillian looked like she wanted to be a homebody. "I really want to just stay home and sleep all the time."
"Talent is truly a terrifying thing." Seeing him like this, Carlos remarked, "Even if all he thinks about is sleeping all day, he can still become the strongest in the village."
Hearing his words, Sylvie cast an envious glance at Frillie.
She longed for that kind of talent too, but unfortunately, just reaching her current level was already the result of her utmost effort.
"If we're talking about geniuses, aren't you the real genius?" Frilian immediately retorted. "Your speed in learning magic is just too fast! You learned my ultimate move in just one week. If anyone had told me something like that before, I would have thought they were lying."
Upon hearing this, Carlos slightly shifted his gaze.
In fact, he learned it in less than a day, but in order to make it less conspicuous, he deliberately delayed until a week later to pretend that he had just learned it.
Even so, Frilian still found it quite incredible.
"That's what I say, but didn't you learn my move in an instant? In the end, you learned one of my moves, so you have to teach me another one!"
Carlos refers to a technique that simply releases magical power.
"Can that even be called a technique? It's not even a spell!" Frillie's eyes widened slightly, successfully steered off-topic. "I'm going to tell Celie!"
This is what it means to throw a tantrum.
"Ha." Carlos sneered, "Who do you think you are, tattling on others? Don't you know we all side with our own people here, regardless of who's right?"
Then, he leaned closer and said in a very smug way, "Go ahead and hit me!"
"You, you, you..." Frillie was so angry at his shamelessness that her eyes reddened and she looked like she was about to spill her pearls.
"Ms. Frilian, please don't be angry. Carlos was just teasing you." Sylvia quickly ran over to comfort Frilian, and glared at Carlos with a slightly unhappy expression.
"From now on, you can bully me, but you're not allowed to bully Ms. Frillie."
Ok?
Frillie was stunned, and even the urge to cry vanished. She turned to look at Sylvia, who was patting her head in comfort.
"What did you just say?"
How could anyone enjoy being bullied like this?
"I'm jealous because Carlos just teased and bullied you," Sylvia continued, patting his head to comfort him, before explaining.
Sylvie already knew that dealing with elves required being direct and honest, otherwise they wouldn't understand the meaning and emotions you wanted to convey.
"How terrifying..." Frillie was frightened by their relationship.
But she didn't know that the person who was more afraid was actually another person in the room.
Carlos was already looking up at the sky.
Ah, the blue sky is so blue, ah, the white clouds are so white.
Today is another sunny and breezy day.
Seeing Carlos pretending not to hear, Sylvia wasn't annoyed. She gently patted Frilian's head:
"Ms. Frillian, let's go."
As she spoke, she winked at Frillie, indicating that this was a good opportunity to ask the questions she wanted to ask on the way.
Upon receiving Sylvia's signal, Frilian didn't immediately realize what it meant, but after spending more than a month together, she belatedly understood.
"Okay, let's go." Frilian cheered up again.
The two walked towards the edge of the village.
Seeing this, Carlos followed behind them at a leisurely pace.
It was less about going out to find ingredients and more about engaging in real combat. Most of the time, he served as a last resort, only intervening when they encountered problems they couldn't solve.
Consider it a practical exercise for them in the field.
