Frilian: This Demon Isn't So Cold
Chapter 24 Omens
"What are your plans for the future?"
After the three of them finished eating, Carlos said goodbye to the lord and left. On the way, Sylvia asked him a question.
Aside from remembering which foods were the best, Carlos stretched his limbs and casually replied:
"Go to the city and be a kind-hearted person."
After saying that, he added, "What you need to do now is to solidify your foundation. I think you're almost there, and you'll be able to master magic with precision. Just be patient for a little longer, and you'll be able to graduate successfully."
Every mage has a foundational learning path to follow, except for demons.
"Mmm-hmm." Sylvie nodded vigorously, looking quite obedient.
Carlos looked at her and didn't say anything more.
Thinking about it carefully, it's quite difficult for someone like Sylvia to become a mage from scratch. Her life isn't like Vlame's, which revolves solely around magic and Seria. She also needs to allocate her time to various other things, so it's understandable that her progress is slowed down.
Carlos's gaze softened.
After Sylvie waved goodbye and left, only Vlame and he were left.
"Why do I suddenly feel this sense of idleness that comes with being laid off..." Carlos muttered to himself, stroking his chin as he watched the girl's departing figure. "She's got plenty of money and she's kind. Where else can you find someone like me?"
"I've wanted to say this for a while now, how did you start becoming so narcissistic?"
Carlos seemed to be talking to himself, but he was actually boasting to himself, Vlamé was so sure of it.
"Is there something wrong with what I said?" Carlos tilted his head and looked at her. "Hmm?"
Upon careful consideration, Vlame realized that this was indeed the case, and couldn't help but blush.
She finally understood why Carlos had been somewhat impolite that morning; it was because she still secretly regarded him as a demon.
Perhaps the last words he said before leaving were not only advice for his research, but also advice for her personally.
"You're right, you truly are worthy of being my senior brother." Vlame gave Carlos a slight smile.
Upon seeing her smile, Carlos looked away, closed his eyes, and waited a while before opening them again to look at Vlamé.
"I'm not mistaken, my junior sister seems to be smiling at me..."
"Does my smile make you that happy?" Vlame's smile grew even brighter. If before it was like the rising sun, now it was like the blazing midday sun. "I've finally figured out the source of that disharmony, Senior Brother. You really love to smile."
Other demons only show cruel smiles, but Carlos's smile is always the kind that makes people feel like they are bathed in a spring breeze.
Why didn't we discover it sooner?
Vlame suddenly remembered something that happened shortly after Carlos left, when her master was still treating her very well.
That day, while studying magic theory, Vlame asked his master why he had let Carlos go so easily, what if he didn't come back?
After all, Carlos's magical talent is beyond description; it's practically like he's unlocked a new level. If he were to return and join the demon race, he would definitely become a major threat to humanity in the future.
What did Master say in response back then?
Vlame thought about it carefully.
"Because I have already seen the future."
She remembered that Celie was smiling back then, just like she was now. Despite being an elf who rarely smiled, she would always show an exaggerated smile when she talked about Carlos.
"You caught me." Carlos didn't deny it, but he didn't delve any deeper into the topic either. "Alright, now I'm going to take a stroll around the streets. Hmm... how long will it take me to get to know everyone?"
Carlos left.
And Vlamé will continue to strive for his dream.
……
Time flies when you're focused on something. By the time Vlamé had organized the basic theories of magic in simple and easy-to-understand language, a year had already passed.
She also learned how long it would take for the entire Tiyua to know one person.
The answer is that it only takes one month.
Before anyone knew it, Carlos had become an even more popular figure here than Vlamé. His strength played a part in this, but more importantly, it was because he was so good at stirring up trouble.
Among the residents, he would help busy merchants carry goods in the early morning, help farmers harvest grain during the harvest season, chat with elderly women living alone, and entertain children on the roadside.
In the city's garrison, he mingled with the soldiers, trained with them, patrolled the wilderness to kill nearby monsters, and even provided protection for the mages' combat training.
Occasionally, he would check on Sylvia's progress in her magic studies.
Six months later, Sylvia successfully broke through from the ranks of apprentice mages. She no longer felt any obstruction in using magic and was now qualified to escort caravans in the wild.
In other words, Sylvia no longer needs to worry about her future income, because she has a means to support herself.
On this day, Sylvie invited Vlame and Carlos to a tavern to try something new in her life—alcohol—but Carlos righteously refused and dragged her to a regular restaurant to celebrate.
"Honestly, I haven't even had a drink yet, can't I even have a sip?" Sylvia complained to Carlos.
"You're too young to drink. We'll talk about it when you're older."
"Am I not grown up yet? I'm already capable of carrying out missions on my own."
"It has nothing to do with strength; it's just too small."
"Hmph, so tell me, how many more years?"
"One year, if you weren't lying to me before."
"18 years old... I understand. I'll invite you again next year on this day."
"You really want to drink that much, Sylvia?" Influenced by her disciple, Vlame also showed interest in alcohol, thinking about when she could find the time to have a drink.
"You're not allowed to drink either, just like her." Seeing through Vlame's thoughts, Carlos glared at her.
And so, both of them were placed under his control. To prevent them from sneaking off to drink when he wasn't looking, Carlos even told the bartender at the local tavern that if he saw the two of them coming to buy drinks, he should let him know later.
Fortunately, a full six months passed, and Carlos still didn't get any news from the tavern.
As for himself, he sets an example by not touching a single drop of alcohol, even though he looks like an adult.
But things didn't go as everyone expected. Sylvia couldn't wait until this time next year because after Vlamé finished organizing the basic theories of magic, she proposed to leave.
"Do you remember the dream you told my senior brother? Now it's time for me to make it a reality."
During an ordinary dinner, Vlame called Sylvieka over and told her about her thoughts.
